 "DONE!"
The editors, typesetters are now hard at work but my publisher is pleased because I only missed the May 12 deadline by about 36 hours.
I have not spoken of this book publicly yet for a variety of reasons, but let me just say liberals, feminists, and those that stand opposed to the traditional ideas of family are going to HATE this book.
Much of it biographical, I aim to take on the modern feminism that seeks to shut men up, make them stand in the corner, and speak only when spoken too.
For my critics who frequently crticize me - even if they do lack any imagination whatsoever - of only writing frequently about homosexual issues because I must be a closeted gay personally, will finally have the curtain drawn back on why I do.
And ladies... I can't tell you how many women have begged me to reserve them a copy when this is finally in stores. If you care about finding the kind of man you've always dreamed of - but didn't exactly know what he should be made of... YOU will not only read this book - but pass it around to all your friends...
Anyway... thanks for all the notes while the blog and column were on hiatus. I'm back, I'm grateful, and I'm more fired up than I've been in a good long while...

Sy - safe again! The popular opinion of American Idol's "final four" last night - was that it stunk. I was neck deep in video editing and barely paid attention to the visuals at all though I heard all eight performances, and I have to tell you I agree. My favorite Syesha Mercado was the only standout to my ears, and those of the Lovely Bride - though Randy, Simon, and Cracky Crackhead didn't seem to agree. David Cook was off his game in a bizarre sort of way. And American SpaceCadet's champion for 2008 - Jason Castro - appeared to not even try. Indulge me this one aside on that topic for a minute: Considering that this class of Idol contestants was perhaps the most talented group since the Hicks/McPhee/Daughtry/Yamin year - who the heck kept voting Castro through? The boy laid two of the biggest eggs ever last night - and it wasn't pretty. Carly and Brooke both deserved to be in the contest beyond Castro and last night was perhaps the kind of injustice that causes people to give up on the franchise all together. Ok, indulge me one more aside... Considering that my friend, and one of the hardest working musicians I've ever known (and having worked in music radio for many years - I've known some of the biggest names in multiple formats) Brooke Barrettsmith - a contestant from that same year as Hicks/McPhee/Daughtry/Yamin - who made the top 40 and was released without real explanation - was more deserving of being on that stage last night than that pathetic, clownlike, circus vocal midget Jason Castro. Castro - unlike previous 4th place finishers - like Daughtry - deserves nothing even close to resembling a record contract. What he really deserves - if anything at all - is to be forced to compete for the singing job on the freecreditreport.com television ads. Though I question his ability to carry tunes of what for him must seem like tough melodies... because for now Jason Castro's musical credit to quote the singing pirate, "is whack!" Jason Castro's musical future:

sore loser Think about something for a moment. Dr. Jeremiah Wright RE-APPEARS, says even more darn loony things than he did before. Obama gets a whole week of horrid press out of the deal and even more questions get raised about Ayers, Rezko, etc.
Consider that polls showed Hillary surging during that time in North Carolina (where believe it or not she did take the lead briefly) AND in Indiana.
Consider that 25% of GOP voters in Indiana did NOT vote for their nominee - which means the power of Rush Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos" was in full effect HELPING Hillary...
Consider that she challenged, cajoled, and egged on the Obama campaign on anything she could think of...
Consider that she won Indiana by barely 18,000 votes in a state where roughly 1.2 million votes were cast...
Consider that for the THIRD time in the election cycle she had to borrow money today ($6 million) to keep her campaign moving ahead... and Obama raised another $40 million or so from donors in the last month...
Consider that Obama has landed Super-delegates at the rate of 5 to 1 since Super Tuesday...
Now consider that within the last hour Hillary still insisted that she was the "stronger candidate" to face John McCain...
Considering all of that - I have come to the conclusive belief...
That Hillary Clinton and Paula Abdul must frequent the same crack dealer!

Never was there a more loyal Clinton supporter, no one has been more openly supportive of Hillary's candidacy, no one knows the Clinton's better... And he says, "it's over!"

big night for the big voice... Dial Idol reported last night that for the first time in many, many weeks Syesha Mercado ended up not just staying safe - but recorded the most number of telephone votes of anyone from the night. I told the Lovely Bride last week that Carly and Syesha being the two biggest voices left in the competition were - possibly - canceling each other out. With Carly gone and Brooke not much like Syesha in any way perhaps she has found a path to the top three. As for the Lovely Bride's favorite - sweet Brooke - Dial Idol had she and Jason Castro more less tied for phone activity... for last place. That means it would come down to the text votes to determine the difference... I have to believe that edge goes to Castro and the 13 year old girls who are all ga-ga over the girly boy. Which is too bad - because Brooke is five times more talented than Castro. Brooke and Jason are likely in the bottom two tonight... and as much as I hate to say it - Brooke may be headed home.

Boo! Softballer! 8:18pm - I'm actually beginning to be disappointed with Bill, he's coming off a little softball... something he doesn't usually do... 8:15pm - Hillary on the tax issue is really engaging Bill. Though Bill's not the best representation of the conservative low tax line. But seeing the amount of engagement that she is showing - you have to give her credit for coming into Bill's house of horrors... She's probably playing very, very, well to the independent primary voters in Indiana... 8:05pm - She just made the argument that if we don't get single payer - universal health care plan in place that we will never stop the fraud of single payer programs in New York and California... Weird...

hearing things... I know it's gotten to be a weekly occurrence in the McCullough house that we notice at least one or two strange things about Paula Abdul. They range from such subtleties as not being able to link more than three coherent words in any string of audible expression to what we think was on a couple of occasions putting her underwear on the outside of her clothes...
It is NOT an uncommon Tuesday night phenomenon for one of us to try to beat the other one in asking, "What is Paula's problem?" I think the minimum it took us one week was roughly 8 secs into the live show.
But nothing...
Absolutely nothing...has ever been comparable to...well...oh man...
Paula has never unpacked the box of crazy like what Cracky Cracklin' Crackhead pulled out last night. You can watch the slow motion head on collision into a brick wall below...

"They're comin' to America..." Over the last few weeks - due to the crazy schedule that I have been having to keep my regular readers have noticed that my consistency in blogging has ebbed and flowed. I stopped blogging about Idol a couple of weeks back and honestly thought that I might be the only one who would miss my musically superior instincts on both what would happen - and reaction to what did. (Please note tongue planted firmly in cheek...)
All that to say I have not stopped following what was happening and perhaps after last week's complete robbery of justice per the performance of the finalists, several of you could take it no longer.
"KEV - WE WANT YOUR PRESCIENT THOUGHTS ON AMERICAN IDOL!"
Alrighty then... I've heard your all-too-kind e-mails and thus return to the Idolblogging.
Tonight the Idols will attempt to do justice to the classic crooner Neil Diamond. But before my thoughts on that let me weigh in on last weeks total injustice...
Jason Castro on any other week would/should have been summarily dismissed. His little girl treatment of "Memories" was an embarrassment to the Idol competition on every level. It is clear to anyone observing now that Castro's wink and a smile to the 13 year old girls across America is working, and as sad as it might sound if Brooke has another tumble tonight - he might be around for at least two more weeks.
Now having said that. One of the cardinal rules of American Idol is that you do NOT forget the lyrics. The judges unilaterally dismiss contestants during Hollywood week for doing so. The assumption moving forward from that time on is that you come to play - every, single, night...
It seems mind boggling to me that Brooke White can survive one more muff. One more stop and start (of which she's had two already) and I certainly think that justice demands that she not forget the words anymore. On the pure merits of American Idol expectations and fairness last week should have been Brooke White's swan song.
The reason that I am convinced she did survive is that while she is by a long stretch not even close to the most talented vocalist American Idol has ever seen, (she's probably EASILY 4th among the ones still left in this year's contestants) one thing is indisputable: She IS perhaps the most likable contestant the contest has ever had.
Just on pure talent alone the final three SHOULD be David Cook (probably odds on favorite at this point) Seyesha Mercado (undoubtedly the best pure singer left in the group) and David Archuletta (the boy version of super-sweet Brooke - but with massively more vocal power).
Something tells me however that Castro and White still have the chance to offset the purity of the contest as many would argue Carly's departure demonstrates from last week alone.
More on it later... but for those of you who have been so kind to say you've missed my thinking on the matter - I hope this tides you over.

Not my homie! Barack Obama has done exactly what he needed to do. Or did he...
“What particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing,” said Obama, who added that Wright had shown “little regard for me” and seemed more concerned with “taking center stage.”
But suppose for a minute that IF Dr. Wright spoke truth when he reiterated the idea that Barack Obama would say whatever he needed to in order to get elected. Wouldn't logic then tell us that Obama would say exactly what he said today. Wouldn't it (wink wink, Dr. Wright, wink wink)?

 too controversial...
Jack and Char over at Reasoned Audacity have the penta-posse fully equipped to take on the wholly own-subsidiary of Planned Parenthood in their town - the local public school. For six years the American Life League has held its annual "pro-life t-shirt" day a sample of which you see above. Evidently one of the posse's principals got all indignant and and placed an extra-large order of snooty with a lil umbrage on the side and attempted to force the "lil Diva" to first remove her shirt, and later attempted to force her to wear it inside out. Latest news is that the shirt has been returned to its original position/condition.

secret weapon... "The displays of personalities such as Barbie, Batman, Spiderman and Harry Potter ... as well as the irregular importation of unsanctioned computer games and movies are all warning bells to the officials in the cultural arena," the letter said. Najafabadi said Iran was the world's third biggest importer of toys, "Undoubtedly, the personality and identity of the new generation and our children, as a result of unrestricted importation of toys, has been put at risk and caused irreparable damages," he said. Authorities launched a temporary campaign of confiscating Barbie from toy stores in 2002, denouncing the un-Islamic sensibilities of the iconic American doll. The campaign was eventually discontinued. That same year, though, Iran introduced a competing doll—the twins Dara and Sara, who promoted traditional values with their modest clothing and pro-family stories but they proved unable to stem the Barbie tide.
