Since the back and legs are starting to ache a bit, I thought it would's be a good time to check on more great Christmas movie memories... so about the miraculous on one of New York's most famous of biways...

Ok, now I've been recruited by the Father of the Bride into cleaning out the families little summer get-away house... but in between bedframes, boxes, and a little electric car, I thought it might be time for some more Christmas Video Fun... so enjoy...

I was somewhat conflicted about whether to post this... As I've been looking for classic Christmas clips to keep you entertained for the next few days, I asked the Lovely Bride and her brother - one of America's newest Naval Officers for ideas... The brother proffered the movie ELF. The Lovely Bride opposed based on the fact that Will Farrell, Ed Asner, and others in the film are such raging liberals...

Since this Christmas the news cycle is slow, and folks are either complaining about not having enough of the white stuff - or having way too much, I felt a little Bing might calm some nerves...

In a Christmas message to the Rome based clergy Pope Benedict has not tip-toed but rather plunged directly into the debate over the morality of immoral sexual unions.

Finally someone speaking sense on the issue...

"I cannot hide my concern about legislation on de facto couples," the Pope said in a Christmas address to the Rome clergy, weighing into a raging debate in Italy over what legal rights should be given to unmarried and gay couples.

"If they say the Church shouldn't interfere in these matters, then we can only reply: should mankind perhaps not interest us?" he said.

And then he added:

"This tacitly accredits those dismal theories that strip all relevance from the masculinity and femininity of the human being as though it were a purely biological issue," the Pope said.

Theories "according to which man should be able to decide autonomously what he is and what he isn't," end up with mankind destroying its own identity, he said.

My admiration for this Pope continues to grow. Particularly because he is so unwilling to play the political correctness game which is laced with lies - and helps no one understand the truth.

Follow up reading that I highly recommend.

According to this morning's New York Sun for every three children that were born in 2006, another two were aborted in New York City.

The story is filled with factoids about all kinds of stats concerning births/deaths and the fear, or lack thereof over New York's growth rate. Evidently people are dying at half the rate they are being born so fair projections put the future population of the city at even higher levels than present.

Still there is some concern in the article about the decline of the birth rate - down ten-thousand plus from the year before. However if you recognized that 88,000 plus children were butchered in the mother's womb, then you could have easily recovered that ten thousand or so by even minimal encouragement for women to consider other options than abortion.

The one significant positive from the report is that teen-girls dropped in birth rates from 13,000 to 8,000. I want to believe that the drop is not due to teen girls having abortions.

So there were 122,000 children who were allowed to live. 88,000 who weren't in 2006. A very grave statement about the city of New York, certainly one of her less than proud moments!

Please don't misunderstand, Dr. Rice is NOT endorsing Obama. But she does refute critics today who believe that America is still too racist a nation to elect a black person to the highest office in the land.

"Yes, I think a black person can be elected president," Rice said in an Associated Press interview Thursday.

She said the first successful black candidate will be "judged by all the things that Americans ultimately end up making their decision on: Do I agree with this person? Do I share this person's basic values? Am I comfortable that this person is going to make decisions when I'm not in the room that are very consequential?"

At the same time, she said, "we should not be naive. Race is still an issue in America. When a person walks into a room, race is evident. It's something that I think is going to be with us for a very, very long time."

Most of the criticism I've received for even giving the main reasons why I believe Obama 's time has come has been largely centered on the idea of race. Literally hundreds of e-mail ruling him out on that what one condition.

Look, it may be a factor - at least initially. But if the GOP persists in demoralizing its base with a Guiliani, McCain, or Romney nominee - that will in many ways stall the enthusiasm needed to carry them across the finish line. Obama's triangulation, putting himself above both parties and pointing the finger saying he can get them to work together, in many people's minds will look attractive.

With the confusion on the moral issues that GOP leaders will be demonstrating (with perhaps the exception of Romney) the core primary voter the GOP will be a bit deflated, and that's not what the Republicans can allow to happen if they expect to win.

Dr. Rice is right, the election in 2008 will be based on what the individual voter thinks about the perceived value system of the candidate, and smooth talk goes a long way to entice ill-informed moderates... advantage Obama.

I hate having to point these things out - but I have to - for the hope that someone in GOP land will wake up and give us better options than the ones currently being touted...

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least in parts...

Today the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia held that the ban on corporate electioneering communications is unconstitutional as applied to the three grassroots lobbying ads for which Wisconsin Right to Life ("WRTL") sought judicial relief in WRTL v. FEC. Judge Leon wrote the opinion and was joined by Judge Sentelle in the majority of the three-judge court.

The ads were run in 2004 when WRTL did radio and television ads urging people in Wisconsin to contact Senator Kohl and Senator Feingold and ask them to oppose the ongoing filibusters of President Bush's judicial nominees. Because Senator Feingold was a candidate, WRTL had to stop running its ads when the electioneering communication prohibition period began. WRTL sought judicial relief to continue running its ads, which was denied at the time.

Today the District Court first decided that the grassroots lobbying ads were not the functional equivalent of express advocacy, as the U.S. Supreme Court had required in its analysis in McConnell v. FEC (which upheld the electioneering communication only against a facial challenge). Second, the District Court held that the FEC had not met its burden of proving that the prohibition was narrowly tailored to a compelling state interest as applied to the ads. So the Court held that the prohibition was unconstitutional as applied to these ads.

James Bopp, Jr., attorney for WRTL comments: "This is a victory for the right of the people to lobby their members of Congress on upcoming votes even if there is a pending election. This grassroots lobbying is simply self-government at work, which is protected by the First Amendment."

Merry Christmas America...

I admit it - I'm a sucker for it. Every single time its on the television I have to stop and watch it. The 10 episode mini-series Band Of Brothers.

INCREDIBLE, simply tremendous WWII story telling...

That's why I was immediately drawn to the title of Rich Lowry's new column. Read it, and in the process be reminded that the freedom we have today didn't come floating on a cloud for us. Real men, fathers, sons, and brothers - gave their all. And because they did - we don't speak German today.

I know liberals don't want you to think on these things... but do it anyway - your nation needs you!

For all the grousing that democrats did over the election cycle about the global war on terror - and why we shouldn't be fighting it, I have yet to hear one of them come forward to express solidarity with our best allies on the issue.

Now British authorities are declaring that it will be a "miracle" if an attack is not carried out. The Blotter is reporting that the Brits have been working near round the clock to bust up as many as six different plots against them.

One intelligence official quoted as saying:

"It is not a matter of if there will be an attack, but how bad the attack will be," an intelligence official told ABCNews.com. Authorities say they are seeking at least 18 suspected suicide bombers.

Let us ALL pray that it turns out to be a series of silent nights for our partners in vigilance this Christmas week!

I have to admit, I was not familiar with Dean Barnett's work prior to his arrival at TownHall as part of the Hugh Hewitt page. I also have to admit he's gotten to be quite addicting.

Take his latest piece on John Edwards.

For the record, I'm not saying he's right, particularly when it comes to the part where he's predicting Edwards to be the nominee in 2008, but look at how he unpacks how creepy the Breck Girl truly is.

In fact I would tend to say that the fact that Dean could slice Edwards so easily, and so devastatingly makes me believe that Edwards won't go nearly as far in the primary process as Dean believes he will.

But in reading the piece you learn two things.

1. Barnett's stuff is always well thought out and expertly researched...

2. John Edward's is a creepy, creepy, guy...

I still hold to the idea that Obama IS going to win - and if the GOP doesn't get off their duffs - he's taking everything, but Dean believes otherwise - and his voice should be heard. And I'm grateful that TownHall will give us both the forum to hash it all out for the next 18 months or so until that nominee is named.

When they're moving their lips?

Berger acknowledged to U.S. Magistrate Deborah Robinson that he intentionally took and deliberately destroyed three copies of the same document dealing with terror threats during the 2000 millennium celebration. He then lied about it to Archives staff when they told him the documents were missing.

"Guilty, your honor," Berger responded when asked how he pleaded.

Robinson did not ask Berger why he cut up the materials and threw them away at the Washington office of his Stonebridge International consulting firm. Berger, accompanied by his wife, Susan, did not offer an explanation when he addressed reporters outside the federal courthouse following the hearing.

Calling it an "honest" mistake, Sandy Berger is now changing his story on the documents he shoved down his pants.

Ugh... just writing that sentence made me wonder why it seems the Clinton Administration will always be associated with...

Oh never mind...

Many thanks to Michael Bates. He is the local blogging authority to Oklahoma politics. His very influential blog on state and local matters has distinguished him as the primary watchdog to what is happening in and around Sooner country.

But Michael should be read for reasons that reach farther than that. His deeply devout faith, his intellectual honesty, and his desire to bring out the truth, along with an enjoyable writing style make him an important voice in the blogosphere.

For all those reasons and more I am honored when he says this about the MuscleHead Revolution,

"Kevin McCullough has been watching Obama's career from the very beginning, and he looks to be as indispensible a guide to Obama as Paul Greenberg was in 1992 in educating us about Slick Willie.

I honestly think he's right though. I've been following Obama for several years now, and my assessment from the beginning is - he's dangerous. Dangerous because he's a craftier strategist than Hillary - while exuding far more charm than Bill.

Michael is also correct - I have been and will continue my series on Obama - because I hope it is a helpful voice in understanding this charismatic figure from a much less awestruck position.

Two bits of humorous internet video just for you today! First off... my very good friend Dawn Eden alerted me to this little bit of seasonal cheer - election season that is:

Next up - another very good friend - none other than Mary Katharine Ham herself delights us all in unveiling the newest "video game on the internets" that features the junior senator from Illinois:

And as much as MKHam may be shocked by this - I went this entire entry without saying his name!
