The NYTimes today highlights stark worries that Hillary has expressed over her competitive fund-raising ventures vs. Barack Obama. It appears that Bill has been forced to be far more involved at this stage of the campaign than originally expected.

Which is what I've argued for all along. Hillary's fundamental problem - is that she's not Bill. Democratic voters LIKED Bill. They don't care for her, cold, ill-tempered, go for the jugular types of dealings...

As the story cites:

The Clintons’ fund-raising zeal, however, has left some donors bristling. Jim Neal, a North Carolina investment banker who supported Gen. Wesley K. Clark and then, in 2004, Senator John Kerry, said he was alienated by the effort “to put absolutely unprecedented expectations and pressure on donors,” like proposing that some fund-raisers would yield more than $1 million for Mrs. Clinton.

“It’s almost like a shakedown — you’re either with us or you’re not,” said Mr. Neal, who participated in an early conference call involving the Clinton campaign chairman, Terry McAuliffe, but is not seen as a major player in the Clintons’ world.

“I just find the squeeze, this early, to be quite vulgar,” Mr. Neal added. “This idea that you should try to K.O. other candidates by simply overwhelming them with the amount of money you have in the bank. It’s a bullying tactic.”

Mr. Neal said he supported Mr. Clinton in 1992 and 1996, but did not plan to support Mrs. Clinton.

Perhaps now we know why 50% of the American people say they will NOT vote for her.

Time magazine has released an interesting story about a Sept 7, 2006 firefight between U.S./Iraqi troops and Iranians that had penetrated the Iraq border. Not insurgents but Revolutionary Guard types.

A short Army press release issued on the day of the skirmish offered the following information: U.S. soldiers from the 5th Squadron 73rd Cavalry 82nd Airborne were accompanying Iraqi forces on a routine joint patrol along the border with Iran, about 75 miles east of Baghdad, when they spotted two Iranian soldiers retreating from Iraqi territory back into Iran. A moment later, U.S. and Iraqi forces came upon a third Iranian soldier on the Iraqi side of the border, who stood his ground. As U.S. and Iraqi soldiers approached the Iranian officer and began speaking with him, a platoon of Iranian soldiers appeared and moved to surround the coalition patrol, taking up positions on high ground. At that point, according to the Army's statement, the Iranian captain told the U.S. and Iraqi soldiers that if they tried to leave they would be fired on. Fearing abduction by the Iranians, U.S. troops moved to go anyway, and fighting broke out. Army officials say the Iranian troops fired first with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades, and that U.S. troops fell further back into Iraqi territory, while four Iraqi army soldiers, one interpreter and one Iraqi border guard remained in the hands of the Iranians.

The official release says there were no casualties among the Americans, and makes no mention of any on the Iranian side. U.S. soldiers present at the firefight, however, tell TIME that American forces killed at least one Iranian soldier who had been aiming a rocket-propelled grenade at their convoy of Humvees.

Picking firefights with the Iraqis, and Americans... Kidnapping British sailors... Does anyone believe that Iran is NOT at war with us?

I vote we go bomb their only gasoline refinery they have left, and blockade everything they try to send in or out. And I vote we do it NOW!

Not if you work for Golden State Fence Co.

In December, company officials acknowledged knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and agreed the firm would pay a $4.7 million fine, one of the largest for immigration violations. Moskowitz said he was uneasy with handing down jail time because the company did not deserve to be "the poster child" for unscrupulous employers. All of Kay's workers paid Social Security taxes and received health benefits, vacation and sick time. Many earned more than $50,000 a year.

The Politico reports that the former Congressman is famous for authoring an amendment to prevent medical marijuana use is now taking money to argue for the other side. AND he's also attempting to end a youth based anti-drug program.

Ironically, Barr said he will help lead the fight to give District residents a say on whether to allow medical marijuana — the very thing the “Barr Amendment” denied them in 1998. He will lobby for the rights of states to set their own medical marijuana policy without federal interference.

The four-term former Republican congressman will also work to unplug a youth anti-drug campaign which a recent study showed actually increased the likelihood that all teens would smoke pot.

“A lot of conservatives have expressed great concern over the taxpayer money that is being wasted on this poorly run advertising campaign,” said Barr, who left Congress in 2003.

Houston said the project is a non-profit that seeks protections for medical marijuana patients and caregivers and advocates no jail time for marijuana use. Barr said there might be “legitimate medical uses of marijuana and we ought not have this knee-jerk reaction against it, and people ought to be allowed to explore.”

I personally don't think you have to advocate for marijuana use in order to pose against Government intrusion.

Weird...

Government obstruction at its best. Fillibusters used for - what they were designed for. If you didn't already love the NEW Senate GOP leadership - just knowing that they are going to block Al Gore from doing his "Live Earth" sham on the national mall/at the Capitol - is bound to entice you.

“There has never been a partisan political event at the Capitol, and this is a partisan political event,” Inhofe said yesterday.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) attempted late last week to pass the authorizing measure for Live Earth by unanimous consent. But Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) raised an objection on the floor, seeking more time for his side to look at the resolution.

Inhofe appeared to see little room for an accommodation that could allow the concert to go forward. “There’s no compromise. Either we change the rules or we don’t.”

Inhofe added that other members share his concerns, including unnamed Democrats as well as Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah), ranking member of the Rules Committee, which has jurisdiction over the concert resolution.

Democrats “may not be willing to stand up to Al Gore, but many of them found it just as objectionable as Republicans do,” he said.

Awesome!

Is this the equivalent in 2007/08 to the South Carolina sliming that took place in 2000? Maybe..

The hacker put this where McCain's contacts had been:

"Dear Supporters, Today I announce that I have reversed my position and come out in full support of gay marriage … particularly marriage between two passionate females."

But in TRUTH, McCain voted against marriage - not ONCE but TWICE. He did so at the peak of the debate over activist judges - and their boldness in locking out "We The People" (i.e. the states) from having the right to determine for ourselves what and how marriage should be defined. And WHILE he did so, he rather lamely explained that it was for reasons of federalism. Which was a mute point given that the judges were running roughshod over the state's rights.

In addition with the "Gang of 14" he also saw to it that the federal benches were not able to be filled in a timely manner...

The hack couldn't have happened to a more opportune candidate!

What is this "DUMB and SENATORER"?

Not content with the fact that the House of Representatives sided with the terrorists who want us all dead last week, today, fifty Senators have to go out do them.

These morons - Senator Hagel included - don't seem to grasp the simple concept.

Hmm, I'm a terrorist - if I sit here, lay low, and melt into the fabric of society - then on March 31, 2008 I can start up again.

WHY?

Because the IDIOT 50 told me to wait...

And wait they will...

And if we are insane enough to follow this bill - we will invite our future demise!

One of the main reasons John McCain is utterly unelectable...

I give Matt Lewis major props for going to New Hampshire this weekend and making these conversations happen. I will definitely feature them on TOWNHALL TV this weekend.

As Matt points out McCain's body language seems to bristle at the fact that he STILL has to talk about this. I don't know why - he has EARNED our scorn on the matter - and we have long memories.

For "McCain/Feingold", for "Gang of 14", and for voting against marriage not once but twice - he simply can NOT be forgiven from this humble voter..."

Hmmm fifteen coalition service men kidnapped... Good time to run some Naval Military Excercises in Iran's face!:

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - The U.S. Navy on Tuesday began its largest demonstration of force in the Persian Gulf since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, led by a pair of aircraft carriers and backed by warplanes flying simulated attack maneuvers off the coast of Iran.

The maneuvers bring together two strike groups of U.S. warships and more than 100 U.S. warplanes to conduct simulated air warfare in the crowded Gulf shipping lanes.

The U.S. exercises come just four days after Iran’s capture of 15 British sailors and marines who Iran said had strayed into Iranian waters near the Gulf. Britain and the U.S. Navy have insisted the British sailors were operating in Iraqi waters.

Now THAT's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
