I don't know what Bloomberg and company are trying to prove, but they are giving our city a terrible name. Complaining endlessly about not getting more federal dollars for homeland security a year ago, only this week to have it be discovered they haven't even spent the dollars they were assigned.
Now they are pushing the limits of hospitality to anyone and everyone who genuinely wants to come see "the greatest city on earth." Bloomberg has been talking about "congestion pricing" for a few weeks. Take the eight dollars it will cost you to enter Manhattan and add it to the six dollars it already costs you to cross a tunnel or bridge to get there and you have a tremendous financial disincentive for many people to come.
But let's insult the tourists while we're at it as well...
Since it is such a great tourist destination the city is figuring out how to stick it to people who want to take their memories home with them, by making them secure a "permit" (read that TAX) for permission to photograph the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, or the Magnolia Bakery.
If the rest of the nation felt sympathy for us following 9/11, that will soon subside with all the ways Bloomberg and company are now telling the "huddled masses" to "go the heck somewhere else!"

This is without question the funniest debate ever aired on the issue of illegal immigration - EVER! Six minutes of the most disconnected, ignorant, uninformed, moronic defense of alien criminals that has ever been made public.
It starts with an admission that he himself WAS an illegal alien, progresses to his admission to smoking pot on a daily basis (a criminal offense I'm fairly certain), and of course blaming the Bushies for wanting to stop illegal immigration - even though it was Bush's support of the McCain/Kennedy shamnesty that infuriated so many of Bush's supporters.
Tommy Chong - the logical poster child for Illegal Aliens...
And how is it that a movie star does not understand that he should actually look AT the camera...?

Congressman Mike Pence led the charge in the House of Representatives that effectively headed Feinstein, Kerry, and Durbin off at the pass. By adding an amendment to the Financial Services and General Government bill.
His amendment will disallow any federal funds to be used to carry out any enforcement of a revived "Fairness Doctrine."
It passed 309-115...
Meaning - even a major chunk of Democrats thought the idea of reviving the ancient rule that would in essence stifle most free speech in on-air capacities - was a really stupid idea.
Pence had this to say upon the overwhelming victorious vote in his favor:
"Today the House of Representatives affirmed that freedom will continue to reign on the airwaves of America. Thanks to the support of 308 of my colleagues, Congress has ensured that the Fairness Doctrine will remain in the grave for now. This was a resounding victory for free speech.
"However, the fight for freedom on the American airwaves is not over. With many still hoping to resurrect this archaic doctrine of unfairness, we must continue to stay on the offense. Tonight I will introduce the 'Broadcaster Freedom Act' to ensure that the victory we experienced on the House floor today extends to future generations.
"I thank all my colleagues, especially the Republican leadership in the House for delivering this resounding victory for the freedom of speech."

If you missed the live broadcast earlier here's the segment with Duncan Hunter responding to the failed Amnesty bill in the Senate.
Was I the only one who did not know that we have upwards of 880 million dollars available in Homeland Security accounts to build the fence?
Am I the only that is now REALLY mad that we are still sitting on it - instead of hiring contractors as Hunter suggests?
They do work for US you know!

The most articulate Amnesty/Immigration candidate for the GOP will react to the Senate's inability to pass their bill. I will also ask him to weigh in on the state of the fence and the other Immigration priorities that should now be addressed one by one...
LISTEN HERE starting at 2pm.

If this whole sorry excercise of attempting to pass a great big convoluted all encompassing mess of a bill did anything for we the American people it was this...
It demonstrated that when we speak, when we speak clearly - we can force the Beltway to listen.
Of course it could be brought back for consideration in the fall - but that is not likely. And with 2008 looming, no one will touch this third rail.
NOW - where to?
I would like the House to now take up the issue of a PURE, border security measure! They have time to get this done prior to the election cycle, and if they make it something that's not all encompassing they should be able to get it in and out of committees, before the House, and over to the Senate before the end of the year.
C'mon guys and gals - get it done!

According to the comments section on my latest column - there appears to be some disagreement.
Take a listen and then tell me what YOU think!

It was the blonde triumverant of Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, and Barbara Olson in the late 1990's that basically awakened America to the dangers of the liberals in the White House.
We lost Barbara on September 11.
And today - it looks like President Bush has lost Ann and Laura... and in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS!
OUCH!

Our good friend Bryan Preston at HotAir has a simple message to remind the Beltway, "we are watching."
His short video has phone numbers of the remaining holdouts on the cloture vote.

There were fewer things more pathetic than the original concept of McCain/Feingold. Limit the amount of free speech Americans should have in supporting or decrying candidates is about the dumbest idea democracy ever hatched.
The Supreme Court did its partial duty today in saying that a major part of it IS complete lunacy.
And now the author of it, supposedly a "free-speech advocating conservative"... wait for it...
Buuuuuuaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...hahhahahahahaaaahhahahahahahahahahaha
...is crying today that the Court didn't see his marxist utopian limits on speech the same way.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Monday called the Supreme Court’s decision to weaken part of his campaign finance law “regrettable.”
However, the presidential hopeful pointed out that the 5-4 decision leaves intact the main part of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, most commonly referred to as McCain-Feingold.
“It is regrettable that a split Supreme Court has carved out a narrow exception by which some corporate and labor expenditures can be used to target a federal candidate in the days and weeks before an election,” McCain said. “It is important to recognize, however, that the Court’s decision does not affect the principal provision of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, which bans federal officeholders from soliciting soft money contributions for their parties to spend on their campaigns.”
Nope Senator, it's not regrettable - its constitutional. And I don't think that Crisis Pregnancy Centers like the ones operated by Wisconsin Right To Life constitute "corporate expenditures."

It's news stories like this one that are getting me revved up!
I do find it interesting that the last man who "ran" for "President" from Tennessee decided to move his campaign HQ from his "home state" to the Beltway. Perhaps that's why AlGore was unable to "carry" his "home" state.
Well that and all the illegal dumping the miners are doing from his property...

I know the false mantra amongst the extremist pro-homosexual lobby is that "gays were born that way." They largely see themselves as victims of DNA that predetermined their procreative choices. Though I guess there's not much procreation happening there.
But if they were "born that way" has anyone ever stopped to ask, how it was that all homosexual behavioralists were always 100% of the time given birth to by - people who disctinctly participate in heterosexual activity?
Like Rosie, and her brother...?

Not entirely, but today's ruling from the Supreme Court is effectively changing the law that has become the most disasterous attempt to limit free speech in the history of our nation.
By the way... I love it when five conservative justices even debate amongst themselves the attempted overreach of such a bad piece of legislation.
Imagine what one more President Fred Thompson appointed justice could bring us!
