...that also goes for pictures of loved ones, rememberances of colleagues who died on Sept. 11, stickers of support for U.S. Troops in Iraq...

"They are proposing that these people who save lives on a daily basis can't be trusted to maintain their locker," said Uniformed Firefighters Association President Steve Cassidy, who demanded the policy be changed or said the union would sue the department on January 21.

The fire department has enforced the policy more strictly since early last month when a slogan considered degrading to women was found in a Brooklyn firehouse, a department source said.

Cassidy said such items as American flags and stickers supporting U.S. troops helped maintain morale. Some 343 firefighters died in the September 11 attacks on New York.

"Firefighters by and large are patriotic Americans; they care about the country and they care about the city of New York," he said. "We consider ourselves a second family to Americans."

So some idiot has one offensive piece in his locker - and you clean everyone's clock? C'mon Bloomberg I thought you were brighter than that... New York City Hall - 212.NEW.YORK.

Thank goodness the Senate can filibuster a piece of legislation for once. (It's gets weary watching that body abuse filibuster power on judicial nominees.)

Their ranks bolstered by the November elections, supporters of legislation boosting taxpayer-funded research on embryonic stem cells were poised Thursday to easily pass the bill again even though President Bush vetoed it last year.

The House was to pass the bill the third piece of the Democrats' first 100 hours agenda Thursday afternoon. But the vote was virtually certain to fall short of the two-thirds margin needed to override another Bush veto, vote counters on both sides of the issue said.

And for those of you educated in public schools and therefore deprived of most thinking skills, embryonic stem cells are 1) completely unsuccessful thus far in finding cures toward any diseases, 2) require the taking of innocent human life, and 3) completely unnecessary given the recent discovery that nearly identical undefined stem cells are available in ABUNDANCE in amniotic fluid - which require NO LOSS OF LIFE.

The President did seem to make one thing clear, in his clearly uneasy address to the nation last night. He's not messing around with Iran.

Some reports read his remarks as grave...

My sources in the Pentagon say this is what they think it really means:

1. He is putting external military pressure on Iran. Note that we will soon have three carrier task forces in the region. Admiral Fallon, the new CENTCOM commander, is known for his use of naval forces to sway geopolitical pressure. Also, watch for overflights by more U.S. aircraft from places like Diego Garcia, Afghanistan and Iraq. Some are drones looking at Iranian military and nuclear positions. Many subtle activities are underway and Iran is very much aware otherwise it wouldn't have staged three major military maneuvers in 2006 or continued to shake its arms rattle at the U.S.

2. The U.S. is aggressively going after Iranians inside Iraq. We have bombed numerous sites along the Iraq-Iran border, e.g., Iranian consulate in Irbil. We have captured al Qods (Iranian Revolutionary Guards) et al inside Iraq and exposed them to media light and used their information for follow-up action. No longer will the Iranians have freedom to maneuver in that country. We are building a case.

3. SEC. STATE Rice will be in the Gulf this weekend to garner diplomatic pressure on Iran. There will be new economic pressures as well.

4. I expect more clandestine actions to assist Iranian resistance groups as well.

Is it working? Perhaps. Oil prices have dropped 11% in two weeks. It's not just because warm weather has kept northern hemisphere consumption down. No, the markets understand that Iran will exercise more wisdom regarding its oil policy and the flow from Gulf states will continue.
Food for thought...

I was the first to predict it. I haven't pinged it in a while but today's Washington Times' piece brought back into focus...

"I think Hillary strikes these voters the same way Senator John Kerry did in 2004. They would really like to vote for someone they really like this time. Hillary doesn't fit that characterization right now," said pollster Del Ali of Research 2000, who conducted polls in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

14 hours and counting and the Democrats have yet to propose a proactive plan for success in Iraq, all the while criticizing with generalities the detailed, specific plan of the President. We continue to watch and wait.

Meanwhile this morning's Wall Street Journal:

If Congressional Democrats want to be constructive, they can insist that Mr. Bush and his generals truly implement the strategy he is now endorsing. The path Democrats have followed in the minority and are now continuing will only make U.S. success harder--a truth the American people will come to understand, and resent.

I'm with Bill Kristol from last night's speech coverage alongside Brit Hume: "The speech didn't matter..." The only things that matter are as follows:

1. Will the plan break the hold of violence across Baghdad?
2. Will the Maliki government uphold its end of the bargain?
3. Will the supply chains from Iran and Syria truly be disrupted/destroyed?
4. Will the Iraqi military finally stand-up?

That's it. No one in America cared about the speech last night - with the exception of the families of the 21,500 who have already been called up. Iraq needs to understand this is the last chance.

And success will come if the answer to those four questions above are all answered affirmitively.

I also agree with Kristol on his observations from two weeks ago:

I like Mary Katharine Ham just this Christmas holiday joined the iPod generation. Kicking and screaming I bucked it for the longest time. Now that I've had my new 80gig Black baby for like three weeks, I have to admit - I do not know how I was such a stubborn cuss to this before.

I just checked it this morning. Two feature length movies. Half a season of '24', and multiple episodes of 'The Office', Scrubs, some Comedy Central stuff, and a freebie golf thing from Tiger Woods, PLUS the majority of my private CD collection (300 CD's worth), and my entire digital picture/video library. PodCASTS from Brit Hume, HOT AIR, The McCullough Punch etc...

Yeah... I've used like 7gig...

But now that I'm in - I'm in all the way so of course yesterday's announcement of THIS has me drooling for Christmas 2007 already:

Hillary to announce soon... So is Banana Obama - he's also taking over Clinton Country in the process... Romney to start raising money... Sharpton says - "why not...coming in fifth, in a three man race is fun!"

Along these lines many of you know that I am predicting that Barack Obama will infact be president in 2009. Scary, sad, but I'm afraid very true... (sure would love to get this one wrong...) Anyways. I've been noticing some of the right-wing echo chamber has recently been listing all of his moral missteps of note. I've also been noticing that they highlight - 1.) Obama's crooked land deal and 2.) Obama's LONG old admission that he smoked weed and did coke. (Or was it smoked coke and did weed... uh... I digress...) Based on these issues many in the echo chamber are starting to cite these as reasons why he won't win.

What you all are forgetting is that to the left - these things are BONUS POINTS. Something they gave Hillary's husband in spades. Now all Obama really needs to do - is have some seedy sex escapade and he will own the empathy tri-fecta that Hillary can in no way compete with.

Don't forget folks... To Liberals: BAD BEHAVIOR = more votes!!!

According to numbers being put forward by Homeland Security in sex-predator stings going back three years - 85% of those captured for these crimes - were illegal aliens.

Homeland Security has arrested upwards of 9000 illegals for sex-predator crimes through an on-going procedure called "Operation Predator."

The program was designed to safeguard children from foreign national pedophiles, human traffickers and international sex tourists, and in the first year alone, ICE arrested more than 3,200 child predators in the U.S. who committed forms of child exploitation.

Two samples:

In fact, ICE reported a twice-deported child molester from Mexico was arrested with 25 pounds of marijuana and eight firearms in his possession in May 2004. "Nicolas Sandoval-Medina" first entered the U.S. illegally in 1996 and was deported to Mexico in July 1997. He later re-entered the country illegally and had sex with a 12-year-old girl in a Des Moines motel room, and was subsequently convicted on two counts of Lascivious Acts with a Child in December 1999. He was also criminally prosecuted for re-entering the country after deportation, a felony, and was deported to Mexico again in July 2000.

In another case, an illegal immigrant from Mexico who attempted to abduct a 7-year-old girl from a laundromat was one of 25 arrested in a sting targeting criminal alien sex offenders in Los Angeles last August. Four of the offenders, two Salvadorans, a Honduran and a Mexican, previously had been deported from the U.S. A fifth man, Alejandro Rodriguez Villegas, 50, convicted of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14, also faces criminal charges but remains on the loose.

The complete Homeland Security fact sheet on 2006.

War on Terror THIS! That's what I'm talkin' about...

One of my trusted Pentagon sources is pessimistic though here are his thoughts:

The C-130 attacks on Islamic terrorists on the Somali island near Kenya had the sovereign government's approval, according to press reports. Last month, the U.S. provided little support to Ethiopia's attack into Somalia. Now, a day prior to the President's announcement about a surge in forces in Iraq there is another hot spot that draws U.S. military firepower. Curious timing.

I suspect President Bush will portray expanded operations into the Horn of Africa as part of the larger war effort and link that operation with our efforts in Iraq. Could be wrong but it certainly looks that way. He may even present evidence that radicals who learned their trade killing Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan moved to Africa and are focused on expanding their influence there. That's the justification for expanding our efforts outside the Persian Gulf arena.
I will wait to see what the President does have to say about the attacks on the Al Qaeda forces in Somalia. For every dead jihadist OVER there... it means one less to kill us here.

That's pretty good math!

In a book that otherwise dealt with what most people consider moral, social, or ethical issues, I also included an entire chapter about the commonsense thinking surrounding (or the lack thereof) with American tax policy.

The one major reason?

Every time taxes are raised, people are put out of work, wages go down, morale is lowered. Every time taxes are cut - the government takes in record revenues, and in fact has more cash on hand to offer help to those who fall through the cracks.

With democrats now threatening the possibility of tax increases - the proper way to understand it is, "The Democrats want to lay people off, pay people less, and cause America to doubt herself."

Tax policies ARE moral, social, and ethical policies... and we the people need remember that!

UPDATE: House members have already changed the rules to be able to do it...

Despite what the results of this poll, coming up in a magazine's issue (next month), have to say about marriage, it appears - the "I do's" have it over a large checking account when it comes to real joy in life.

Not surprising given that so much of what life is about is missed if one already has the ability to buy everything one needs.

Don't get me wrong, having the bills paid on time is a particularly satisfying feeling - as God intended it to be. (Owe no man any thing...)

But it can't compare with coming home and getting a great big one of these every night!

I remember what it was like getting our first car with GPS. I loved it, I felt I could navigate New York City and the surrounding tri-state area and never get lost. I loved the safety feature because now if the Lovely Bride were to get lost, all she had to do was hit a button and *poof* the GPS gnomes appeared out of nowhere to wisk her safely back home...

Then I got GPS for my phone! Are you kidding me - how much better can it get? I can never lose the thing... plus now when I don't even have a car, I can find directions (and when lost on dark streets in SoHo looking for the Magnolia Bakery cupcake line that can be a bad thing.)

However... I think giving GPS devices to Illegal Aliens is a stupid thing to do. Yet - 200,000 devices are slated to be awarded to illegals who "announce their intention" to immigrate (illegally) to the United States.

A young Mexican man jumps over a fence

Oh yeah - this little added bonus - it will page both Mexican AND American authorities in case of distress. Of course our government is claiming to know nothing about the matter:

"We do not have any information about the Mexican government providing satellite trackers to people, but we strongly discourage encouragement to people who are attempting to cross illegally into the U.S."

Once they're here, perhaps they can use the little bugger to find their way to the nearest Pizza Patron which announced this morning that it is now taking the Mexican Peso as acceptable currency...

And lastly... thanks to my faithful listener Eli, I was able to get caught up on some of the incredible success of  border camera projects. One in California, by all measures successful, was run by professionals. One in Texas that was a pilot program - kind of a Minuteman meets the internet kind of project - got ridiculed by the media.

Look, I'm in favor of all of them, minutemen, internet cameras, Border Patrol cameras, fences with barbed wire, fences that have live electrical current running through them, "shoot to kill" orders for anyone crossing except at legal crossing points... do it all!

I'm not ready for another September 11th... but I guess John McCain would say that I'm just "g--d-mned" stupid for worrying...
