The Lovely Bride and I had discussed weeks ago how we had no real plans or desire to see the new Frank Miller movie 300.

For me this changed this morning after AllahPundit pointed me to a review that reveals how liberals are responding to 300.

"...a textbook example of how race-baiting fantasy and nationalist myth can serve as an incitement to total war."

"Leonidas likes to rally the troops with bellowed speeches about 'freedom, honor, and glory,' promising that they will be remembered for having created 'a world free from mysticism and tyranny.'"

So if liberal bloggers are outraged - especially THIS outraged - it seems to me I need to see what the fuss is.

UPDATE: Dean's got the 411 on how liberal movie critics are responding. Seems to be a clean sweep. They are so afraid of this movie they seem to be questioning the manhood of men who do go see it. I'd still love to know what Medved says about the film but I'm more strongly inclined now than I have been yet to run not walk to the theater when it opens today.

On my radio show I have a name for this kind of behavior, actions, allowances in our society... "breathtaking deviancy..."

When a school district knows this kind of behavior happens, it is bad enough. When they know it happens and convince the staff to keep it quiet, that's worse. When they know it happens, and have the staff convince the kids to keep it quiet - thats just damnable.

When the school's attorney then arrogantly says, "we don't believe it damaged any kids to see it happen," then you know its time to get ropes and find tall trees...

It's a sad truth but most people know Fred Thompson from the television drama Law and Order fewer know him as a former senator from Tennessee.

Senator Thompson has been a consistent conservative in his views despite his stints in Washington, Hollywood, and New York.

As Matt mentioned this morning TheHill is reporting today that he is investigating the funding possibilities for a presidential run. Red State is reporting on the "Draft Fred" effort.

On thing is certain, were he to run he would almost immediately ignite broad-based conservative support. Something that Romney, McCain and Giuliani have failed to do.

Iowa is 10 months away, with money, and organization who knows what could happen...

One thing is certain... he already has the best voice of all the nominees. Remember that video he narrated at the RNC in 2004? It still give me chills...

Maw-wiage... that bwessed awwangement that bwings us togevah to-dahy

No, not the gay-marriage issue. The multiple-marriage issue. How big a role will it play in the Republican primaries? In the general election?

The issue was brought to the fore this morning by comments made by the head of public policy for the Southern Baptist Convention, Richard Land, in an interview with the Associated Press. Mr. Land told the Associated Press that Evangelicals believe the former New York City mayor showed a lack of character during his divorce from his second wife, television personality Donna Hanover.

"I mean, this is divorce on steroids," Mr. Land said. "To publicly humiliate your wife in that way, and your children. That's rough. I think that's going to be an awfully hard sell, even if he weren't pro-choice and pro-gun control."

Mr. Giuliani married Judith Nathan in 2003. They had dated publicly while Mr. Giuliani was married to Ms. Hanover. (His first marriage ended in an annulment.)

It would be pretty hard to dispute that Mr. Giuliani's actions in his divorce showed "a lack of character." They did. The mayor conducted himself atrociously. The question is how much voters will care.

In the GOP primary, Mr. Giuliani faces one opponent who is divorced (Senator McCain) and one who's been happily married for 37 years (Mitt Romney).

Mr. McCain cheated on and divorced his first wife when he returned from Vietnam and launched his political career with his new wife's family's money. But Mr. Land tells the AP that this is no big deal. "It's a molehill compared to Giuliani's mountain," Mr. Land said. "When you're a war hero [like McCain], you have less to prove on the character front."

Mr. Romney, then, stands out. His wife, Ann Romney, has made the quip that her husband, the Mormon, is the only candidate in the field who's only had one wife. And Mr. Romney looks ready to exploit that to its fullest.

Responding to a story I first mentioned yesterday, public educators' Quote of the Day...

In responding to parents who were outraged that as many as ten middle school students may have witnessed, along with their teacher the act of full blown sexual intercourse between two students - while in class:

McDowell agrees parents have legitimate issues about classroom supervision - but has a different take concerning students who may have witnessed the activity:

"This doesn't pose any danger to the other students even if they did see it," he said.

When asked for claification, McDowell repeated his stance.

"All right, so they may have witnessed this. While this is an activity you certainly don't see in a school and it's something that would be certainly unusual, I don't feel - I don't know where it posed any immediate danger to those children who saw it," McDowell said.

You don't like Ann Coulter, fine. If you disagree with her, so be it. That doesn't give you the excuse Andrew to do to her what you would be scared stiff of having someone do to you...

By the way... Ann's a pretty darn good attorney as well... so get ready to see a whopper of a lawsuit be dropped on your head. She will probably become your new managing editor at the Daily Dish.

UPDATE: Slimeball got message, I'm getting lots of folks telling me that Andrew took down Ann's actual street address. But he did expose her actual address for about 15 hours or so...

Why are liberal democrats delaying the 9/11 Commission's  Recommendations?

Why are they opposing these specific items?

  • Make it a crime to recruit people to commit a terrorist act.
  • Authorize the immediate deportation of suspected terrorists whose visas are revoked on terrorism grounds.
  • Prevent the release of dangerous illegal immigrants whose home countries delay their return to their home country.
  • Make it a crime to encourage terrorism by rewarding the families of suicide bombers after the bombings take place. This is not a crime under current law.
  • Increases penalties for those who call families of soldiers serving overseas and falsely claim that their family member has been killed.

Anyone...? Anyone...?

I kind of identify with Carol Platt Liebau's point of view. It has been surreal to see someone who we used to know in completely different contexts grow up to run for President right in front of our eyes.

Carol knew him as part of the team at the Harvard Law Review where Obama was the first ever African-American editor.

I knew him as a legislator on a mission while embedding himself with the Chicago south-side black community, and quickly climbing the ladder to become the "rock star of the DNC."

David Brody is just getting to know him at present, even visited Obama's non-biblical "church", before he was told to shut off his cameras.

The one thing all of us agree upon? Obama is one deft politician, and one deadly person when it comes to charm and people skills. Why is that bad?

Because all three of us seem to find his positions on just about everything - absolutely repulsive.

But as Carol put it: he'd probably just throw his head back with a hearty laugh over the whole thing...

...scary...

You probably haven't heard a whole lot about another CPAC "scandal" from this year... but give the media time - as soon as they are done licking up the remnants of raw meat from the Coulter vs. Conservatives showdown they will be on to it.

And when they do pick it up expect another ravenous feeding of "conservative hypocrisy" and "religious right double standards" etc.

Michelle Malkin touched on the story in advance last weekend.

But today her counterpart, and a fellow evangelical, Bryan Preston has put together an oustanding post. Bryan highlights why tolerance seems to be oh so hip when liberals are forgiving the sins of fellow liberals.

Allow that person to actually be a person of faith, belief, substance or principle - and forgiveness shows up no where on the radar screen.

MOST IMPORTANTLY Bryan points us all to the pertinent reality that the biblical text reminds us of - we are all born sinners. Some of us the most vile of vile.

It is for this reason that we need mercy and grace from the all powerful God who created us, because in our own efforts we could never bridge the divide between our depravity and God's standard of righteousness.

It took nothing less than the perfect God to ascribe to us his perfect righteousness, and that only happens through the admission of our imperfection as sinners.

If you missed it - read Bryan's entire piece. Then live your life in it's reality!

Tiger Woods is doing a terrific thing.

Long story short, the PGA tour was losing an event (ironically enough b/c Tiger had declined to play it in recent years) The International in suburban Denver.  In response Tiger is putting together the organization necessary to host on an on-going basis an event that will pay tribute to America in three specific respects.

It will pay tribute to our nation by being held over the July 4th weekend. It will pay tribute to our capital by being the only PGA event held in suburban Washington DC. And perhaps most importantly in Tiger's own words it will be a time to salute our troops.

Tiger Woods joined elite company Wednesday as one of only three players to host a PGA Tour event during their careers.

But this wasn't about taking his place with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Woods was more interested in the dozen children seated to the side of a packed lounge in the National Press Club, where Woods and PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem announced plans for the AT&T National that marks the return of golf to the nation's capital.

Still to be determined is where the tournament will be played and the size of the field.

Woods made clear, however, that the tournament would pay tribute to the military over the Fourth of July, and pay for a new Tiger Woods Learning Center in the Washington area as he expands his foundation's goal to help children.

This year Tiger will serve as host, though he may not be able to attend given the expected delivery of the birth of his first child.

In any case it gives me a strong desire/reason to make a trip to DC in July!

On the entirety of its network of Salem Communications is issuing its official daily commentary today. Michael Medved voices today's piece and speaking on behalf of the editorial board of Salem Communications this is what he will be heard saying:

Conservatives are right to condemn liberal fanatics who jokingly wish for Cheney's death, or compare Bush to Hitler, but we should also denounce right wing celebrities who violate standards of decency.

Ann Coulter is an important, consistently provocative commentator but she needs to apologize for applying an anti-homosexual slur to presidential candidate John Edwards. It's bad enough to invoke this explosive "f-word" in public address to a conservative audience, but it's totally unacceptable to direct it at Edwards--happily married for 29 years and the father of five children, one of whom died in a tragic accident.

Edwards deserves condemnation for his left wing politics, his naked opportunism, even for his career as an ambulance-chasing lawyer, but smearing him as secretly gay degrades public discourse.

I like and admire Ann Coulter, but if she insists on marginalizing herself, we shouldn't allow her to drag the conservative movement with her to the fringe.

Since Ann could probably easily attribute close to half of all her recent book sales to broadcast and print opportunities she has garnered with Salem nationwide, I hope she will listen to what her friends are saying back to her.

I also think that Medved is really on target when referring to the Edwards' marriage, and the tragedy of their lost child. Since Ann is fronting for a party in which only one of the three front runners has been married to only one woman - she has little cause to attack what appears to be a 29 year effort of success.
