 "Guilty"...and lived to appeal it!
Even though some black racists decry it, and after hearing about these sad cases in which justice will not be done, sounds like this prosecutor in California - and the citizen legislators of that same state got it right:
LAKEPORT, Calif. — Three young black men break into a white man's home in rural Northern California. The homeowner shoots two of them to death — but it's the surviving black man who is charged with murder.
In a case that has brought cries of racism from civil rights groups, Renato Hughes Jr., 22, was charged by prosecutors in this overwhelmingly white county under a rarely invoked legal doctrine that could make him responsible for the bloodshed.
"It was pandemonium" inside the house that night, District Attorney Jon Hopkins said. Hughes was responsible for "setting the whole thing in motion by his actions and the actions of his accomplices."
Prosecutors said homeowner Shannon Edmonds opened fire Dec. 7 after three young men rampaged through the Clearlake house demanding marijuana and brutally beat his stepson. Rashad Williams, 21, and Christian Foster, 22, were shot in the back. Hughes fled.
Hughes was charged with first-degree murder under California's Provocative Act doctrine, versions of which have been on the books in many states for generations but are rarely used.
The Provocative Act doctrine does not require prosecutors to prove the accused intended to kill. Instead, "they have to show that it was reasonably foreseeable that the criminal enterprise could trigger a fatal response from the homeowner," said Brian Getz, a San Francisco defense attorney unconnected to the case.

 "...look he's a MOOOORRRRMMMAANNNN!"
Based on Rudy and Huck's new friendship, McCainiacs' anti-Mormon bigotry just confirms who the true front runner in the GOP Primary really is.
Sad... you would expect better from those who support him.
And HE should be much more adamant in distancing himself from such support!

In response to every idiotic claim that has been heard in America over the last year that equivocated Islamic law - and the rest of the world:
The 19-year-old woman -- whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms -- was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.
A court source told the English-language Arab News that the judges had decided to punish the woman further for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."

 "...jailing the bad guys..."
I talked at length about the very wrong-headed case of the Pasadena, Texas D.A. prosecuting and sending to the grand jury the shooting deaths of two likely illegal aliens who were breaking into a neighbor's home of a seventy year old man who sent them to see Jesus.
Will authorities do likewise in the issue of this four year old who saved his mother's life?
Listen to the discussion from today's show - about 3/4's of the way through the hour a Newark cop calls in to say the 70 year old was "clearly in the wrong." To which I responded, "Sir does it frustrate you to lock up the good guys, knowing that more often than not the bad guys get away...?"

"Today we are filing a motion to dismiss," added the statement. "If we are required to proceed beyond this point, we will defend the case vigorously and demonstrate that the lawsuit is wholly without merit, and that the bizarre allegations by Mr. Rather are untrue."

This is like sending the starting right tackle from the Dallas Cowboys into a wrestling match vs. the ugly girl from "special class."
Kudos to Newsweek - this may be the first time ever the MSM has tilted the bias scale so heavily in favor of truth and decency.

2pm: Adultery is somtimes not adultery. Speaking to a Phoenix TV station this week, O'Connor's son, Scott, described his father as acting "like a teenager in love" and says his mother is happy for him. Unusual as that sounds, doctors say the O'Connors' situation is not uncommon. My grandmother died of dimentia, its painful, its hurtful, and it left my Aunt and I with some surprises to deal with. But God is not going to hold this fling against Mr. O'Connor. 800.345.WMCA
2:20pm: There isn't a person among us that isn't willing to sell their soul. According to the report, a survey of 3,000 students conducted by an NYU undergraduate journalism class found that an overwhelming majority of those polled said their right to vote could be for sale; in addition to the 66 percent who said they'd trade their vote for a free year of college, 20 percent said they'd exchange their vote for an Ipod Touch. Half of the students polled said they'd forfeit their right to vote forever for $1 million. Golf on Sunday, Working weekends instead of family, compromises for promotions. We sell our souls ALL the time! 800.345.WMCA.
3pm: I don't want this guy to go to prison, though he technically deserves to. In a case legal experts say may "stretch the limits" of the state's self-defense laws, a Pasadena man shot and killed two suspected burglars during a confrontation as they attempted to flee his neighbor's property Wednesday afternoon. He's SEVENTY. That's 7-0:"70". He calls the police to alert them to the crime. He prevents the criminals from getting away with it. He calls the police back to confess what he did. He gives the police a tour through the crime scene. AND NOW HE HAS TO GO TO JAIL? Come ON!!! 800.345.WMCA

I've expressed in the past my disappointment with how poorly Ms. Connor's decisions seemed to be decided the longer she sat on the United States Supreme Court. But I can't feel anything but respect and on some level compassion for a woman who sees her husbands affections waning and she's resigned to see him happy.
Though I'm sure we'll be reminded soon about how another prominent political wife showed much lavish support for her husbands' waning affections:

Camenker, Rios, and Jackson...unfair Romney critics Romneyhaters - who are marginalizing themselves further every passing day for not contextualizing their criticisms in light of the governor's positions and campaign platform - believe if they say the same thing over and over again - that it will somehow make it true...
Gregg - you are better than this - address the former Governor in context - you are wrecking your credibility on this... and its not just me that's noticing...

"Rudy's a great guy!" One day Mayor Giuliani realized he was going to get his lunch handed to him in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Michigan. His only hope is to attempt to regain momentum in Florida but if the Romney train is rolling along after four impressive wins even Florida might now go his way.
So the strategy is hatched. Mike Huckabee has no money, no shot at the nomination, and no staffers in the later states. Sustaining an opening Iowa win - would be nearly impossible... if he were running for the Presidency at least.
But what if he's not?
What if the CBSNYTIMESwhocareswhattheysay poll that came out yesterday showing Huckabee now suddenly breathing down the neck of Mitt Romney was really just a Giuliani campaign tactic? What if the the real scam here is that Huckabee is, in political terms, sleeping with the devil for promises of being selected VP?
It makes sense doesn't it?
Giuliani will not be a guaranteed winner in red states against an Obama campaign that rallies black voters in Mississippi, Alabama, and perhaps Florida, or if Hillary wins - a "moderate, centrist" democrat campaign in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Ohio.
While the possibility that Giuliani takes some blue states away from Democrats in the far northeast (electoral college poor - with the exception of New York and New Jersey) he could also easily LOSE red states that a truly conservative candidate would keep.
If Hugh's theories of TORTS is correct then Giuliani is already hard at work thinking about balancing what would be a far left GOP ticket - should he win the candidacy. Thus Huckabee, with his likability, strong stance on social issues, and evangelical Christianity could help balance what looks like a horrific liberal facing off against another horrific liberal for the Dems.
Enter the grand enticement. Huckabee finishes surprisingly well in the Ames straw poll - an event Giuliani thumbed his nose at. The light bulb goes off... here's the plan.
Giuliani to Huckabee through back channels: We've spent NO money in Iowa, we haven't got a prayer of a chance. We throw our support to your win in Iowa to bleed Romney down. We even get our organizers to work the voters on your behalf. You get to enjoy a nice moment in the limelight, maybe even a bump in New Hampshire and can raise money for a good race in South Carolina, which will be your last stop in the limelight. Because you have no organization, no money, and we have loads still unspent - you will be finished at that point - except to go on the attack against Romney. In Florida you get particularly harsh with Romney and with our money and good sized lead - we begin the real march to the nomination. We win Florida big, we make it competitive in Michigan, and on Super Tuesday we wipe the floor extended the lead. You stay in as long thereafter as you have the money to do so - and remember stay on the attack against Romney, you never mention us... When you drop out then go on the media as a panelist, pundit, etc. and continue to hound Romney.
When we win the nomination - we name you V.P. - you go sell your "aw shucks" in the Bible Belt and away to Washington DC we go.
Think about it - politics makes strange bedfellows. Giuliani has stories coming out every day this week talking about how he doesn't "need" the early states to win. And with Huckabee doing his bidding - for greater glory down the road, and possibly VP to Presidential succession he sees it as a win as well.
And this much is clear - it will be a horrid, awful, and absolute wreck for our nation if this is how it goes.
However if Romney wins Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina and by margins - then Florida becomes a much tighter contest even able to be won by Romney. Then come Michigan. If Romney runs the table in the early going - then Super Tuesday even if he surrenders New York and New Jersey becomes much more of a lock for Romney and less for the Mayor.
Iowa voters don't be fooled. If I was a paid advisor for Giuliani - this scenario is exactly how I would advise and proceed.
Don't be shucked by Huck. True conservatives can't afford to be and I'm afraid this great conspiracy has more truth to it than we may be willing to realize.
UPDATE: For the record AND for those Freepers who are publicly speculating. I am not now nor have I been on the payroll for the Romney campaign. Infact readers of my blog will know that not only have I not officially endorsed any candidate but that the candidate I have previously been the most vocal about over the longest period of time WAS Fred Thompson. WAS primarily because his lackluster drive since entering the race has been some of the least inspirational moments in GOP history.
ALSO for the record in the month of October Gov.s Huckabee and Romney appeared on my radio show the same number of times - and nearly the same amount of time down to the minute. Both interviews were friendly and informative for listeners to be better informed by.

 ...2.8 millions cases and counting...
HEY KIDS: ABSTAIN TILL MARRIAGE AND THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO YOU:
ATLANTA (AP) - More than 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year - the most ever reported for a sexually transmitted disease, federal health officials said Tuesday.
"A new U.S. record," said Dr. John M. Douglas Jr. of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
More bad news: Gonorrhea rates are jumping again after hitting a record low, and an increasing number of cases are caused by a "superbug" version resistant to common antibiotics, federal officials said Tuesday.
Syphilis is rising, too. The rate of congenital syphilis - which can deform or kill babies - rose for the first time in 15 years.
"Hopefully we will not see this turn into a trend," said Dr. Khalil Ghanem, an infectious diseases specialist at Johns Hopkins University's School of medicine.
The CDC releases a report each year on chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, three diseases caused by sexually transmitted bacteria.
Chlamydia is the most common. Nearly 1,031,000 cases were reported last year, up from 976,000 the year before.
The count broke the single-year record for reported cases of a sexually transmitted disease, which was 1,013,436 cases of gonorrhea, set in 1978.
Putting those numbers into rates, there were about 349 cases of chlamydia per 100,000 people in 2006, up 5.6 percent from the 329 per 100,000 rate in 2005.
CDC officials say the chlamydia record may not be all bad news: They think the higher number is largely a result of better and more intensive screening.
Since 1993, the CDC has recommended annual screening in sexually active women ages 15 to 25. Meanwhile, urine and swab tests for the bacteria are getting better and are used more often, for men as well as women, said Douglas, director of the CDC's Division of Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention.
About three-quarters of women infected with chlamydia have no symptoms. Left untreated, the infection can spread and ultimately can lead to infertility. It's easily treated if caught early.
Health officials believe as many as 2.8 million new cases may actually be occurring each year, he added.
