2pm: Benazir Bhutto seemed to me to live by deeper conviction than any of the present Presidential candidates running in either party. Michelle Obama is being quoted just today stomping her feet a little bit, throwing a little bit of a temper tantrum about "now or never." Mitt gets irritated when his record as Governor and how it differs from his present campaign stump speech, gets questioned. Hillary can't handle a question she didn't first pre-screen. Bhutto by comparison has been arrested, had repeated attempts on her life in the past, and three attempts since last fall to kill her. Freedom for the individual determination of the Pakistani people was what drove her. IS there ANYONE running who would be willing to die for their convictions in 2008, running for President? 800.345.WMCA.
3pm: As a general rule of thumb I don't want "mental health 'doctors'" going anywhere near my children. In fact if a parent is engaged in a child's life I believe the need for "mental health doctors" in children's lives is almost nill. But doctors in Massachusetts are calling it a "huge step forward": mental health screenings for children. Surveys given to children and teens to measure Autism to Depression. I believe its just a quick step to get more kids from mental health symptoms into drug treatment. NO THANK YOU! From biblical times forward how did children deal with "mental health" breakdowns? 800.345.WMCA.

 Rasmussen: Huck holds nationally...
With just a week to go until the Iowa caucuses, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll continues to show five Republican hopefuls in double digits nationally. In the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, it’s Mike Huckabee at 20%, Rudy Giuliani 18%, John McCain 14%, Mitt Romney 13%, and Fred Thompson at 11% (see recent daily numbers). Ron Paul currently attracts 5% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide.

 "heh... wha ya say?"
Hugh and Michelle are both tracking the serious responses that many candidates have given in response to one of the biggest terror attacks via the cold blooded shooting of Benazir Bhutto.
I guess if you live in rather huge denial about the threat of terrorism in the world today you're relatively unaffected by such developments thus why Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Ron PaulPot have yet to admit reality today. Nor respond to it.

Here's what Al Qaeda is saying about the death of Benazir Bhutto:
“We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahadeen,” Al-Qaeda’s commander and main spokesperson Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told Adnkronos International (AKI) in a phone call from an unknown location, speaking in faltering English. Al-Yazid is the main al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan.
It is believed that the decision to kill Bhutto, who is the leader of the opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), was made by al-Qaeda No. 2, the Egyptian doctor, Ayman al-Zawahiri in October.
Death squads were allegedly constituted for the mission and ultimately one cell comprising a defunct Lashkar-i-Jhangvi’s Punjabi volunteer succeeded in killing Bhutto.
The U.S. is working to confirm the claims and the veracity of the message...

2pm: When we live under false guilt today, we "feel guilty" about something we did or didn't do because we lack moral clarity. A Long Island Dad of 54 gets sent to prison for second-degree manslaughter. A woman who had previously withheld a guilty verdict says she sobbed as she drove home from after changing her vote from not guilty. But what does the evidence say? What were the facts? I expected the New York Post to run the emotional headline. But this woman's guilt is hurting her needlessly. 800.345.WMCA.
3pm: When teacher's cross the line of public trust, sharp, quick, and immediate action needs to be taken to nip it in the bud...because it only gets worse next time. Leading up to the Christmas break the biology teachers Ms. Vogel and Ms. Lomotta at Northern Highlands Regional H.S. (201.327.8700) decided to show a graphically homosexual film over the course of several days. Following the viewing of the film they asked the students aged 16 to respond to survey questions such as "What was the most emotional part of the film to you?" No parental notification was sent home, no permission slip/opt out option was given to the parents. In describing the circumstances of the situation to me the parents of one student felt a little overwhelmed. Yet they owe it to society to call these teachers on this... don't they? 800.345.WMCA.

I'm getting a LOT of mail asking me about this item, especially in light of what I wrote this morning...

"I'm only going to say this once. I did not have marching excercises, with that man...Mr. King, I never did. Not once."
SEVERAL of my readers are asking me to weigh in on the MLK debacle that the Team Romney campaign let come about rather carelessly. MANY are accusing Mitt of waxing Billy-Jefferson on the matter, so here goes...
First off it is easily evident through a simple look at the records that Mitt never "saw" his father march with Dr. King. Libs have already picked up on this and are beginning the whispering campaigns in African American communities across the country.
This is exceedingly, profoundly, negligently, and absolutely painful to Mitt's cause - because as sad as it is to admit it - there are many voters in African American circles who are insulated from the mainstream. So insulated they listen only to "black" radio, "black" television cable. Forget the blogosphere, and "new media" in these circles in Chicago, Philly, Detroit, New York etc. this will now become a problem that he will likely not be able to climb past.
Doubt you all me want on that point, but I've probably done more exclusively black media in the nation than just about any other white evangelical Christian conservative pundit - maybe ever. I've worshipped in more African American churches, I talk to the largest community of church going African Americans in the nation every single day... Doubt me, sure its your choice - but I am not wrong.
Coupled with the fact that Mitt's "faith of his fathers" was openly hostile towards blacks until he was "in college" and if there had never been an MLK flip/flop at all - suspicion, whispering, and lack of trust would have cost him votes to begin with.
Now it turns out that Mitt's exact words weren't true and in election cycles those "read my lips" moments ALWAYS get used against you.
And here's the most horrific part of all of it: IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THIS WAY!
Primarily because George Romney - Mitt's father was such an ardent supporter of Dr. King in so many ways. All courtesy of Geraghty the Indispensable.
1. 1963: Governor Romney Participated In Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Freedom Marches" In Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
2. As Governor Of Michigan, George Romney Fought For Civil Rights And Marched In Support Of Martin Luther King Jr.
3. In 1965, George Romney Led A March In Michigan To Protest Selma.
4. Martin Luther King Jr. "Spoke Positively" About The Possible Presidential Candidacy Of George Romney.
5. George Romney Attended King's Funeral In 1968.
6. After King's Assassination, George Romney Declared An Official Period Of Mourning, Ordered All Flags To Be Flown At Half Staff And Said King's Death Was "A Great National Tragedy."
I mean seriously compare George Romney's response to King's murder as compared to "Rev." Jesse Jackson's plunging his hands into MLK's blood and smearing it on his sweater so that he could claim "mantle being passed."
What Mitt's people should have done from the beginning of this campaign cycle was to as one aspect of his campaign already be reaching out to African American voters - some of which if they registered as Republicans for GOP Primary dates could help him in tight races where a high level of mistrust still exists for many as it related to Rudy Giuliani.
Huckabee's bonafides amongst African Americans is perhaps the highest I've ever seen amongst a nationwide race for office. Mitt has deficiencies on this level - not personally - but caused by the perception of his faith (which HE chose to emphasize), and now the stumble on the facts concerning MLK...
But it didn't have to be...

 "faith bigot?"
Will Hugh scream this one from the mountain tops?
No I guess that will be left to those of us not running for administration appointments. For the record - I'm endorsing no one and attempting in my fallen state to report the good and bad on all of the candidates with reasonable shots of winning. (Disclaimer: All Ron Paul coverage on this blog however IS intended to make the PaulPots scream like pigs.)
So let me understand this correctly if I can...
One of the candidate's faith - because it is Mormonism - is officially not allowed to even be considered (even in the privacy of the voter's own minds) per Hugh and the other trigger finger Romney zealots (no reflection on the actual candidate intended.)
BUT...
Novak can write this piece of trash and evangelicals and baptists are supposed to just take it and shut up?
And his basic argument is that because not all Southern Baptists support Huck his "religionist" creds are in trouble?
Are you kidding me?
I grew up in Southern Baptist America. ALL of my family back home (at least on my mother's side) presently attend and are active members in Southern Baptist Churches. They don't even all go to the SAME Southern Baptist Church out of a refusal to agree on certain things about the OTHER Southern Baptist Church.
Novak then delves into the waters he truly is unqualified to wade in to - comparative doctrinal differences between liberal and conservative Southern Baptist DEMONINATIONAL distinctives.
If the source for a column such as this would have been authored by either of my colleagues Dr. Richard Land or Dr. Albert Mohler it would have had a certain degree of credence - but Novak?
Novak even cites FISCAL conservative John Fund from the Wall Street Journal in an attempt to make it appear that Huckabee was "anti-conservative" in his appointments on the Arkansas Baptist Convention.
But keep in mind that a liberal to some Southern Baptists are those who argue that drums should not be allowed in the worship service, that women should be forced to wear skirts instead of pants, or that the choir robes should be blue instead of that gross funeral home color of faded purple. Yes there are deeper issues of true doctrinal liberalism that have torn Southern Baptists apart from each other - but the fact Novak couldn't nor even attempt to identify any distinctions in the column is offensive.
Novak's ultimate goal of the piece is to begin his own whispering campaign concerning Huck's "Nixonian Irritability."
Right...
The candidate who has been accused of smearing other people's religion, planting crosses as subliminal messages in his television ads, and having the audacity to utter the words "Jesus Christ" in his ad that centered on CHRISTMAS, and yet in every debate - never got rattled, never showed that "thin-skinnedness" in any interview he's done to date.
I'm not endorsing anyone in the GOP Primary for 2008 so don't read this post as a pro-Huckabee message - but Novak's piece is slimy, deceitful, and far more dispicable than anything anyone has done to Romney or his faith thus far. And they have been doing it longer, more frequently, and now much more grotesquely than anything Mitt has faced.
Closing one liner...
"How do you get Southern Baptists to argue most...?"
"Allow one of them to speak!"

Oh... that will do it...
PLEASE...
Point out one point of fact that I have written about Ron Paul that is in fact substantively false...
It wasn't me who made the claim that he hangs with White Supremacists - but I pointed out that White Supremacists claim it. It wasn't me who had my picture taken with them - that was Ron Paul.
Paul is a public figure - good luck with that defamation stuff...

2pm: Novak going to new depths against Huckabee.
2:20pm: Jamie Lynn Spears/Nickelodeon considering a "Preggers Reality Show," and I admit that while I responded very knee jerk yesterday this might not be such a bad idea. Remember how you couldn't sleep after going to traffic school because of the graphic films you were forced to watch. Same thing - right? 800.345.WMCA.
3pm: When you are isolated from life "back home" would you prefer to know major life crisis issues when they happen or after you return. No doubt for me - I would ALWAYS want to know immediately. But not everyone would agree - NASA astronaut Dan Tani wanted to know - but his wife instructed NASA not to disturb shuttle launch. Tani later said, "she made the right decision." 800.345.WMCA.

 "Pro-Life Bare Knuckles"
Here's the practical problem with this kind of ad. They use the soundbytes effectively BUT... where did he take legislative action or executive action to enforce the premise of what they are attempting to say? The Camenker/Rios/Jackson crew point to possible abortion coverage in some of the state health plans that Massachusetts resident buy in to in compliance with the Health Care initiative he created. But is that it?
To be so "pro-abortion" as Mitt's detractors want everyone to believe he sure did come up light on accomplishments for the other side.
Not that his soundbytes aren't troublesome - they are - especially given the timeline. But the Governor has ALSO (in all fairness) said he was wrong and is on the record with commitment to life.
So even if he labeled himself "pro-choice" he did precious little to enhance those bonafides, and he did grapple with the life issue strongly on embryos and came down on the side of life.
If Mitt flip/flopped - it was in his talking points... not in his viewpoints... or more importantly his policies...
Disclosure: I report the good and the bad on many of the candidates. I even once said something nice about Ron Paul's visit on the view. Click the pic above... Huck, Fred, and McCain will benefit the most. This hits air this weekend.

Thanks to all the LGF readers coming on by... the water is nice and warm given the overheating the PaulPots are doing on this message board right now.
And did you see how they now refer to themselves?
Are you an "RPA?"
 "White Power"
He sure makes it known that he will take their donations...
Now yet another White Nationalist group says Paul is lying to people when he tells them he's had no involvement with such groups. (h/t: LGF)
I have kept quiet about the Ron Paul campaign for a while, because I didn’t see any need to say anything that would cause any trouble. However, reading the latest release from his campaign spokesman, I am compelled to tell the truth about Ron Paul’s extensive involvement in white nationalism.
Both Congressman Paul and his aides regularly meet with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review, and others at the Tara Thai restaurant in Arlington, Virginia, usually on Wednesdays. This is part of a dinner that was originally organized by Pat Buchanan, Sam Francis and Joe Sobran, and has since been mostly taken over by the Council of Conservative Citizens.
I have attended these dinners, seen Paul and his aides there, and been invited to his offices in Washington to discuss policy.
For his spokesman to call white racialism a “small ideology” and claim white activists are “wasting their money” trying to influence Paul is ridiculous. Paul is a white nationalist of the Stormfront type who has always kept his racial views and his views about world Judaism quiet because of his political position.
I don’t know that it is necessarily good for Paul to “expose” this. However, he really is someone with extensive ties to white nationalism and for him to deny that in the belief he will be more respectable by denying it is outrageous — and I hate seeing people in the press who denounce racialism merely because they think it is not fashionable.
Bill White, Commander American National Socialist Workers Party
Looks like the Ron Paul campaign definitely had lunch there.

And now this: Ron Paul was allegedly the guest of honor and gave a speech in Arlington Va. for MORE White Supremacists...
