big night for the big voice...

Dial Idol reported last night that for the first time in many, many weeks Syesha Mercado ended up not just staying safe - but recorded the most number of telephone votes of anyone from the night.

I told the Lovely Bride last week that Carly and Syesha being the two biggest voices left in the competition were - possibly - canceling each other out. With Carly gone and Brooke not much like Syesha in any way perhaps she has found a path to the top three.

As for the Lovely Bride's favorite - sweet Brooke - Dial Idol had she and Jason Castro more less tied for phone activity... for last place. That means it would come down to the text votes to determine the difference... I have to believe that edge goes to Castro and the 13 year old girls who are all ga-ga over the girly boy.

Which is too bad - because Brooke is five times more talented than Castro.

Brooke and Jason are likely in the bottom two tonight... and as much as I hate to say it - Brooke may be headed home.

Boo! Softballer!

8:18pm - I'm actually beginning to be disappointed with Bill, he's coming off a little softball... something he doesn't usually do...

8:15pm - Hillary on the tax issue is really engaging Bill. Though Bill's not the best representation of the conservative low tax line. But seeing the amount of engagement that she is showing - you have to give her credit for coming into Bill's house of horrors... She's probably playing very, very, well to the independent primary voters in Indiana...

8:05pm - She just made the argument that if we don't get single payer - universal health care plan in place that we will never stop the fraud of single payer programs in New York and California...

Weird...

Got Blurry?

Ok... now you can hear it... but I have to warn you, her explanation makes less sense than she did last night...

hearing things...

I know it's gotten to be a weekly occurrence in the McCullough house that we notice at least one or two strange things about Paula Abdul. They range from such subtleties as not being able to link more than three coherent words in any string of audible expression to what we think was on a couple of occasions putting her underwear on the outside of her clothes...

It is NOT an uncommon Tuesday night phenomenon for one of us to try to beat the other one in asking, "What is Paula's problem?" I think the minimum it took us one week was roughly 8 secs into the live show.

But nothing...

Absolutely nothing...has ever been comparable to...well...oh man...

Paula has never unpacked the box of crazy like what Cracky Cracklin' Crackhead pulled out last night. You can watch the slow motion head on collision into a brick wall below...

"They're comin' to America..."

Over the last few weeks - due to the crazy schedule that I have been having to keep my regular readers have noticed that my consistency in blogging has ebbed and flowed. I stopped blogging about Idol a couple of weeks back and honestly thought that I might be the only one who would miss my musically superior instincts on both what would happen - and reaction to what did. (Please note tongue planted firmly in cheek...)

All that to say I have not stopped following what was happening and perhaps after last week's complete robbery of justice per the performance of the finalists, several of you could take it no longer.

"KEV - WE WANT YOUR PRESCIENT THOUGHTS ON AMERICAN IDOL!"

Alrighty then... I've heard your all-too-kind e-mails and thus return to the Idolblogging.

Tonight the Idols will attempt to do justice to the classic crooner Neil Diamond. But before my thoughts on that let me weigh in on last weeks total injustice...

Jason Castro on any other week would/should have been summarily dismissed. His little girl treatment of "Memories" was an embarrassment to the Idol competition on every level. It is clear to anyone observing now that Castro's wink and a smile to the 13 year old girls across America is working, and as sad as it might sound if Brooke has another tumble tonight - he might be around for at least two more weeks.

Now having said that. One of the cardinal rules of American Idol is that you do NOT forget the lyrics. The judges unilaterally dismiss contestants during Hollywood week for doing so. The assumption moving forward from that time on is that you come to play - every, single, night...

It seems mind boggling to me that Brooke White can survive one more muff. One more stop and start (of which she's had two already) and I certainly think that justice demands that she not forget the words anymore. On the pure merits of American Idol expectations and fairness last week should have been Brooke White's swan song.

The reason that I am convinced she did survive is that while she is by a long stretch not even close to the most talented vocalist American Idol has ever seen, (she's probably EASILY 4th among the ones still left in this year's contestants) one thing is indisputable: She IS perhaps the most likable contestant the contest has ever had.

Just on pure talent alone the final three SHOULD be David Cook (probably odds on favorite at this point) Seyesha Mercado (undoubtedly the best pure singer left in the group) and David Archuletta (the boy version of super-sweet Brooke - but with massively more vocal power).

Something tells me however that Castro and White still have the chance to offset the purity of the contest as many would argue Carly's departure demonstrates from last week alone.

More on it later... but for those of you who have been so kind to say you've missed my thinking on the matter - I hope this tides you over.

Not my homie!

Barack Obama has done exactly what he needed to do. Or did he...
“What particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing,” said Obama, who added that Wright had shown “little regard for me” and seemed more concerned with “taking center stage.”

But suppose for a minute that IF Dr. Wright spoke truth when he reiterated the idea that Barack Obama would say whatever he needed to in order to get elected.

Wouldn't logic then tell us that Obama would say exactly what he said today.

Wouldn't it (wink wink, Dr. Wright, wink wink)?

too controversial...

Jack and Char over at Reasoned Audacity have the penta-posse fully equipped to take on the wholly own-subsidiary of Planned Parenthood in their town - the local public school.

For six years the American Life League has held its annual "pro-life t-shirt" day a sample of which you see above.

Evidently one of the posse's principals got all indignant and and placed an extra-large order of  snooty with a lil umbrage on the side and attempted to force the "lil Diva" to first remove her shirt, and later attempted to force her to wear it inside out.

Latest news is that the shirt has been returned to its original position/condition.

secret weapon...

"The displays of personalities such as Barbie, Batman, Spiderman and Harry Potter ... as well as the irregular importation of unsanctioned computer games and movies are all warning bells to the officials in the cultural arena," the letter said.

Najafabadi said Iran was the world's third biggest importer of toys,

"Undoubtedly, the personality and identity of the new generation and our children, as a result of unrestricted importation of toys, has been put at risk and caused irreparable damages," he said.

Authorities launched a temporary campaign of confiscating Barbie from toy stores in 2002, denouncing the un-Islamic sensibilities of the iconic American doll. The campaign was eventually discontinued.

That same year, though, Iran introduced a competing doll—the twins Dara and Sara, who promoted traditional values with their modest clothing and pro-family stories but they proved unable to stem the Barbie tide.

The Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club event Monday, which was organized by Reynolds.
Highest Bidder here I come...

I had this gut feeling all day yesterday... I repeatedly made inference on Ed Morrissey's show at HotAir yesterday.

Sure appears I was right...

In fact on most things related to the Barack Obama campaign and the fall out of his religious affiliation with the man who now lives in a 20,000 sq ft mansion and enjoying his $10,000,000 slush fund... I have often been the ONLY one who got it right.

And in terms of Obama, I still hold that conditions are proving favorable for him to win the nomination for the Dems, and in terms of McCain's performance - the jury is still out on his ability to beat him...

The sad thing about the Hillary-Wright connection is that Wright HAD to see himself being used like a pawn. Yet he's so desperate to get a little limelight - and trust me good or bad - this is the most he's ever dreamed of - he jumped at the opportunity to appear.

In many ways Wright's desperation makes him appear to still embody the mentality of the plantation slavery he's wanting justice for.

Sad... predictable but sad...

"have you seen my clothes?"

There is a LOT of media cackling about Miley Cyrus' apology and pleas of embarrassment today over her racy-implication-preferred pictures slated for Vanity Fair.

Talk radio, the 24 hour news channels, and water coolers in offices across the country are a buzz with whether the fifteen year old means it, or whether its just a way to save face (and business.)

Our own Matt Lewis made some rather significant observations about it this morning adding up to a big, "HUH?"

But Billy Ray and Mrs. Mullet aren't the first parents to be on the scene when their daughter chooses to go over the edge...

Remember DiLoh?

Now one can argue that allowing their 15 year old to go moderately topless with a sheet for a cover up and exposing the back is bad because that minor is looked up to by soooooo many other teenage girls, who undoubtedly will now begin to think showing even more skin is the way to go.

But I think the award for the more damaging parental skills still go to DiLoh, for allowing her 14 year old to be present at her sister's porn shoot.

Anyone that's ever been at a professional photo shoot knows that things get said, jokes get made, etc. If that happens when the subjects are fully clothed or at least in Miley's case - still fully covered, well...?

What kind of moronic parent do you have to be to allow an even more impressionable 14 year old to sit and drink it all in?

Sorry but in the Celebrity Parent Death Match today - loser still goes to DiLoh.

Dr. Wright's hits just kept on coming Sunday night...

If you missed my syndicated piece that took on the pablum Dr. Wright put forward in his softball visit with Bill Moyers take a look at this: Dr. Wright: Choosing Hate over Hope.

But his keynote speech to the NAACP last night continued the crass, generalized prejudiced stereotype racism that Dr. Wright so obviously lives.

Just some of the highlights:

Comparing "African American children and European American children is like comparing apples and rocks."

European American children are left brained... meaning cognitive in learning style - meaning they are analytical and logical, and learn from object lessons.

African American children are right brained... meaning creative in learning style and they learn from people...

I can't even begin to describe the amount of useless silliness besides lack of medical or scientific proof that such a theory holds. Is Dr. Wright arguing that the ethnicity and color of a child's skin determines whether they are creative or not? Is he arguing that there are few Blacks who can make a logical argument? Does he also hold the theory that blacks have an extra muscle in their foot that makes them run faster or jump higher?

And don't even get me started on his explanation about why the kids in his "desegregated classrooms" couldn't stand still behind a desk and couldn't help themselves from swinging from the chandeliers are "gettin' all up" on the desks and the like...

I'm sorry Dr. Wright, lack of self control - no matter what age doesn't add up to just needing to be taught in a different "learning style..."

How do I know?

Because I'm whitey white, father to a son who is about 12 shades darker than Dr. Wright, and while my son is nearly the perfect model of social propriety in places like classrooms, I on the other hand constantly got in trouble for talking when I shouldn't, fidgeting at all hours day and night... etc.

I also ended up being what could easily be classified as a "creative learning style learner" - music by intuition, sports by imitation, and I have to admit - I didn't much care for the books.

So - I must be - according to the stunning intellect of Dr. Jeremiah Wright - a black child!

"Now I trail Obama by only 150 delegates..."

Someone needs to teach the smartest woman in the world how to count. This morning on Fox and Friends she repeatedly invoked an "overwhelming" margin of ten points. "Ten points," she said it again and again...

Well in Hillaryland I guess 10 now means 8.5.

"Dad would be proud of me... NOT YOU!"

I find it really distasteful when family members air their dirty laundry in the press.  And when the "press" turns out to be a pander-rag to the lobby that promotes homosexual behavior one has to wonder, "is blood thicker than anything these days?"

I've had a number of people drop me notes on Billy Baldwin's recent excerpted interview with OUT magazine. For those who don't know OUT is one of the most widely read homosexual publications in the country. But since there are less than 3% of the population who practice homosexuality anyway it is understandable why so many of you would still not know what it is... I digress.

In the excerpted magazine interview Billy Baldwin is made to look like a total jerk to his younger brother Stephen. Having spent one afternoon with Billy and all of about twenty minutes with Alec I have to tell you that Billy seems to be the one Baldwin brother who is pretty much ready to throw down on a moments' notice.

Having said that there may be some doubt as to whether OUT magazine did quote Billy correctly and in context, and I was encouraged to not form a final opinion until its proven.

PUCKEY!

If Billy Baldwin said the things this article claims he said then he needs to step up to an actually intellectually rigorous setting and debate the silly objections he claims to throw out. And if the magazine is misrepresenting what Billy said - then he should have the stones to stand up, correct the record, and vindicate his brother's reputation.

The one afternoon Billy and I were together - happened to be at Stephen's home. We debated the value of a human life. The life of a person who was not terminally ill - even though Billy had been convinced that this person was - but rather needed limited technological help to breathe and consume fluids. Billy felt it was perfectly within the rights of a judge and a husband to be allowed to execute his wife's life through the cruel act of starvation. And he felt that it was morally ok for that starvation to take place over the course of 21 days. Regardless of the pain inflicted upon the woman, regardless of the fact that she wasn't even sick - this husband's right to murder his wife with a permission slip from a judge is all it took...

And he has the audacity to question Stephen about "civil rights?"

I would invite Billy back to the coffee table, but this time for an honest discussion - not a softball Q&A from an advocacy rag totally devoted to the degeneration of our society.

What do you say Billy? Stephen may have never interned on Capitol Hill like you did... but I've spent a day or two there. In fact at present I'm living here!

It's easy to make your brother the punching bag because you despise the peace, contentment and the real life change that you've seen take place in his life. But it is hard to argue, is it not, that Stephen is a different man today than he was prior to Jesus?

Are you that envious?

You're better than that William, and though you may think that your father would have a distinct opinion of Stephen's commitment... what would he say to your level of disloyalty?
