When I'm right... uh and wrong...

Ok - I thought something weird was in the water or something, I was 2-6 on my predictions to date in the finalist rounds of American Idol, but tonight put me back at even .500!

Asia'h Epperson, Kady Malloy, and Danny Noriega were the three girls that were eliminated.

Luke Menard was the guy eliminated.

4-0 tonight, back to 6-6.

For what it's worth - I'm having a terrible and terrific Presidential year too. In December of 2006 I predicted - to the ridicule of everyone I spoke to - pundits, colleagues, news anchors, listeners and readers - that Barack Obama would be the Democrat nominee. In January of 2007 I followed it up only a week or so later saying that John McCain was finished.

1-1 thus far in the presidential race, (and these were the only two predictions I proffered in the race.)

Ah well...

Uncle Crank the crackpot... calls it quits...

And NO ONE says it better than Allahpundit:
...Amid seven plus minutes on liberty, the gold standard, and the Gulf of Tonkinterrorist-themed “moneybombs” the Paulnuts managed to put together. He had his own cult before Obama did; he’s still the only candidate with his own blimp (and his own racialist newsletter, his own Nazi donor base, etc etc). I’ll miss the easy content but take heart in the fact that he’s on his way back to the House for another term, where he’ll charm us with another two years of floor speeches espousing an absolute moral equivalence between Israel and Hamas. Maybe someday he’ll get around to explaining why someone who voted to invade Afghanistan thinks he’s qualified to lecture others on noninterventionism. Good riddance. there’ll be some sort of formal concession of a race he never had the remotest chance of winning, no matter how many

"And the ones NOT making it to the top 12 are...?"

First a word about the lousy "Insider Spies" that TMZ claims is attending the rehearsals before the finalists perform for the television show... you're terrible dude/dudette. Your "sneak peeks" for both the men's performances, as well as the ladies... we're just... in a word...

Awful!

Now from my - completely NOT as an "insider spy" perspective here's what I think is going to happen. First the easy part - Kady Malloy and Luke Menard are toast, they've each had three of the most forgettable performances ever in American Idol history since they were put through to the top 24. Katy and Luke have both looked great on camera - it's just when they open their mouths and sing the weird songs they've chosen - they did not show the watching audience what it needed. Katy was very honest in her interview with Ryan last night - she SHOULD have been eliminated last week because Alaina sang circles around her. Anyway Luke and Katy ciao...

Now... the tougher call. My preference would be Danny Noriega. But as rotten as thought his performance/act/everything was this week, the science of the busy signal seems to indicate that David Hernandez will be the one who gets the ax. Either way AI gets rid of one of the two embarrassments that they've been forced to deal with. Getting rid of a stripper, or a Jessica Alba look alike who hopes that "Santa rapes your mom," pretty much either one of them is a win for AI's PR department.

Now the toughest call. Most deserving is probably Kristy Lee Cook, just based on her overall series of performances, but last night she took a favorite 80's hit and twang'd it country enough to give it a spark of originality - the judges liked so we'll see. If I was a betting man though - the money would be on the exit of Asia'h Epperson. The song was too big for her, and too many other girls had good nights - I feel - for her to survive.

For what its worth I'm 2-6 on predictions this year. One year ago at this time I was 8-0. The whole Amanda Overmyer popularity has me somewhat puzzled this year I must admit and it has thrown me a curve, we'll see how long it lasts.

Add your picks in comments below - be interesting to see how it all pans out.

When someone calls yo' Obama one!

"When Senator Obama was confronted with questions over whether he was ready to be Commander-in-Chief and steward of the economy, he chose not to address those questions, but to attack Senator Clinton," Wolfson said. "I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president."

"Bored!"

Paying a visit to the Capitol building, Tom Hanks declared his desire to have the vote taken for the 2008 general election sooner than later.

Hanks is a supporter of Barack Obama told Politico that he wished the election could be "held tomorrow." Adding, "I'm bored!"

But I think most people who pay any attention to the political spectrum are anything but bored with the present drama shaping up in Hanks' own party. Obama leads big, Hillary makes a comeback (repeat cycle once), and now it looks that Obama may win 3 of the next 4 states, but Hillary wins in the biggest of the 4 and they end up going the stretch with Obama firmly in the lead, and Hillary trailing, and they get to the convention and have "the" slug-fest to make us forget Democrats in Chicago, or Republicans of 1976.

It will be ugly, waste particles will be flying through the air, Clinton will attempt to steal the nomination, tempers will be tested, and every now and then Obama may step out to a microphone and say, "the Clinton camp refuses to recognize the will of our party's voters - particularly the choice of African-Americans, and young voters."

Insults will be levied, dirt will be dragged up, and perhaps even punches thrown, and riots started before its all settled.

BORED?

Someone tell Forrest that "we're just getting to the good part."

"Jail-bait?"

166,000 sets of parents in the state of California may be considered lawbreakers shortly in California. An appeals court has overturned lower court findings that empower parents to educate their children according to their sets of values, choices, and faith. Now literally hundreds of thousands of families could be subject to criminal sanctions:

A "breathtaking" ruling from a California appeals court that could subject the parents of 166,000 students in the state to criminal sanctions will be taken to the state Supreme Court.

The announcement comes today from the Pacific Justice Institute, whose president, Brad Dacus, described the impact of the decision as "stunning."

"The scope of this decision by the appellate court is breathtaking," he said. "It not only attacks traditional homeschooling, but also calls into question homeschooling through charter schools and teaching children at home via independent study through public and private school."

"If not reversed, the parents of the more than 166,000 students currently receiving an education at home will be subject to criminal sanctions," he said.

The judge in this case is likely to be a very sympathetic public education advocate, perhaps a former teacher or married to one. But good old fashioned "truancy" laws have not been even thought about being put back into place in recent years - and for good reason.

Line up twelve home-school kids, and twelve publicly educated kids - same age as the home-schoolers. (randomly selected)

Survey after survey has demonstrated that the same aged child in a homeschooling program will realize higher reading levels (usually by more than one grade), far better math and science skills, and in terms of testing - such as the SAT - will score dozens if not hundreds of points higher.

IED at 3:45am!

NEW YORK —  An explosive device caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above.

Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m., shattering the station's glass entryway. No one was injured.

"If it is something that's directed toward American troops than it's something that's taken very seriously and is pretty unfortunate," said Army Capt. Charlie Jaquillard, who is the commander of Army recruiting in Manhattan.

...the ayes of Texas are upon you...

Evidently Clinton's big night was more like a little blip. After all delegates tallied:

Clinton: 185 delegates on the night
Obama: 173 delegates on the night

With undecideds still to place their votes.

That means she gained no more than 12 delegates on him after trailing by more than 100 going into the evening. With some big rounds left to go in the fight.

Tainted Love...

I've felt that throughout the competition thus far Simon Cowell has never seen Danny Noriega as really what America will want to see in its "top" choice for an American Idol.

I don't know if Danny's effeminate ways bother Simon directly - but I do think it's somewhat obvious that his attitude, ultimate angry witch act that he keeps pulling each week is NOT what the American public sees as a mainstream icon to represent America.

And while it's probably not fair that Americans will likely give David Hernandez a bit of a pass for his stripper past, but it is understandable that while on camera Hernandez has not flaunted his issues into the competition. Noriega CLEARLY has. One e-mailer relayed to me that last night their young son thought Danny was a "pretty girl" singing on television.

His song selections, his feminine dancing, hair-style, make-up etc. just keeps pushing into the camera week after week. Randy seems ambivalent, Paula's WAY into it, Simon - from what I'm seeing in his body language thinks its not connecting with the viewers.

And if that wasn't enough then there was THIS that emerged yesterday - the boy is wearing eye-shadow: (GRAPHIC LANGUAGE WARNING: Do Not Click if offended by vulgarity)

Is there any reason why Simon SHOULDN'T have called him girly last night?

Now is not the time...

For the better part of the primary season I have always advocated that the final Democratic ticket would include BOTH Obama AND a Clinton. (If Obama was REALLY smart he would name Bill as his VP, considering his still rock star status in the party.) But most likely it would Hillary...

Even though she trails in the race for delegates by nearly the same margin before she went 3 for 4 last night now SHE's playing cute about naming Obama as VP.

She's a slick one heh?

She thinks she comes off looking "generous" but hopes to insert the fangs and take the life out of Obama all in one blow.

But Obama is playing it right.

He understands that the moment he gives in to her intimation - she will stick the knife all the way in.

Right now he's in the lead, and will continue to be for the next seven weeks. This weekend Wyoming, then Mississippi, then Pennsylvania, then comes North Carolina.  Wyoming will be tight, Mississippi will be an Obama rout, that will set up Pennsylvania where Obama will compete very hard and enthusiastically in Philly and Pittsburgh, and I expect North Carolina to tip Obama easily as well.

If Hillary takes Wyoming/Pennsylvania by small margins, and Obama wins Mississippi/North Carolina by big ones - she still doesn't have the math. She likely won't be able to get it either.

Thus the fight that will ensue over Michigan and Florida - which will come off to the young voters, and African Americans as inherently unfair gamesmanship slight of hand, and THAT plays into John McCain's hands for the general election.

Obama is smart, very smart, and most importantly he's got the cash to ride this thing out to the convention. And even if he goes 50/50 the rest of the way - he gets the delegates and in all likelihood the super-delegates.

Obama should continue to reject even the notion of a shared ticket. And I happen to agree with Carol today - he should probably steer clear of her being on the general election ticket now... It would've seemed smart a year ago (as I advocated), but Carol's point is well taken - Hillary's only path to power would be the failure of Obama in this election.

...lies through teeth...

And for the love of all that's holy - gives the honest to goodness most boring, pathetic, and senses-dulling victory speeches I've ever had the misfortune of not finding my remote to mute the sound on...

By the way... what is Hillary's experience that makes her "ready" on "day one" for the 3am wake up call? Her husband getting serviced under the Oval Office desk while bombing asprin factories? Was that the experience she gained?

She's still going... where's that stupid remote!!!!

"Two most important people in my life Bill and Chelsea..."

AUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I wanna put a fork through my hand...

LIVE from Irving, Tx...

Huckabee finishes in second place in the 2008 GOP Primary, he survives with his reputation intact and will be active in the party's vision for the future. Depending on just how pagan the next four years turn out to be Huck could return formidably in 2012.

He could also use this time to shore up bonafides (as could Romney) in the minds of the GOP voters on those issues that were called into question in his platform. Four years of consistent message will help him improve.

He did far better than anyone thought... and for that he should be congratulated.

UPDATE: David Hernandez the idol contestant who was outed as a STRIPPER this morning, will be allowed to stay on the show, according to sources close to the production.

American Idol Season 7's Top 24 contestant David Hernandez poses ...
"hey ladies..."

According to the Associated Press:

LOS ANGELES - "American Idol" contestant David Hernandez once entertained audiences by removing his clothes instead of singing tunes, a manager at a male strip club in Phoenix told The Associated Press.

The 24-year-old finalist from Glendale, Ariz., once worked as a stripper at Dick's Cabaret, appearing fully nude and performing lap dances for the club's "mostly male" clientele, club manager Gordy Bryan said Monday.

"He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here," Bryan said.

It's not clear whether a history as a stripper could disqualify Hernandez from the competition. In 2003, finalist Frenchie Davis was dismissed because of her appearance on an adult Web site; but last year, Antonella Barba remained in the competition after racy photos of her surfaced on the Internet.

Sadly... there's more...
