My sister has been researching global warming for a newspaper article and asked me the other day: "The main argument for biofuels has been that they reduce greenhouse gas emissions, right? That's been their little scapegoat, cause I mean come on, how can you say no, right? Wrong." Here's the research she found from: "The Really Inconvenient Truths" Seven Environmental Catastrophies Liberals Don't Want You To Know About--Because They Helped Cause Them by Iain Murray (senior fellow, Competitive Enterprise Institute)
-Ethanol emits about a third less greenhouse gas then gasoline and therefore is not as efficient as gasoline. - This means that for every gallon of ethanol you burn, you get less energy than you would from a gallon of gasoline -So even if a gallon of ethanol produces fewer emissions than a gallon of has, the gap narrows the more ethanol you burn. A gallon of gasoline contains 115,000 BTUs of energy. A gallon of gasoline contains 75,000 BTUs. So to get the same energy out output as a gallon of gas, you need to burn one and a half gallons of ethanol. If you work through the numbers, that means that using ethanol instead of gasoline entirely might actually increase the amount of greenhouse gas emitted. And wait. There's more. "Producing gasoline is actually quite an efficient process. Once you've found it, you simply stick a pump in the ground, suck up oil, refine it and distribute it. Ethanol from corn, on the other hand, requires much more intensive work in planting, growing, weeding, reaping, fermentation, and distribution. Tractors used in farming burn gasoline. Some ethanol plants use coal fires to distill the ethanol. Trucks, not pipelines, must be used to distribute the stuff. So every gallon of ethanol already has burned a large amount of fossil fuel in its production. A study from David Pimental find that corn ethanol uses 29 percents more fossil fuel energy in its production then it replaces. Switchgrass uses 45 percent more fossil energy, wood biomass 57 percent. As for biodiesel, soybeans are about the same as corn ethanol, using 27 percent more fossil energy, while sunflower plants require a staggering 118 percent more fossil fuel energy to produce then they replace. Every gallon of corn ethanol already has 1.3 gallons of gasoline worth of greenhouse gases emitted in its production (plus the actual emissions still to come when the ethanol is used). " [from the text "The Really Inconvenient Truths"] Therefore, ONE GALLON OF ETHANOL is actually responsible for the emissions of about TWO GALLONS OF GASOLINE.

On Saturday nights Baldwin McCullough Xtreme Radio is super charged about having AM 970 The APPLE as our flagship home. So if you're in NYC, and you "heart" BMXRadio, get it tuned in on AM 970 Saturday nights - 9-11pm EST. This week we wanna welcome those newcomers to our airwaves joining us from the recent fill-in stints KMC logged for Don Kroah on WAVA 105.1 FM in Washington DC, and Frank Pastore on 99.5 FM in Los Angeles. It was a genuine pleasure to get to know two great audiences on opposite coasts. And boy were those two weeks eventful! But by all means the conversations were fun and we even got to help some people in the process. We also welcome our new affiliate WRJZ AM 620 in Knoxville, Tennessee. MAN have we got a show for you tonight! Here's just SOME of what we're hitting on Saturday night - so be by the radio (9pm EST): 1. T-Shirst, school kids, and free speech: This story is a couple of weeks old but one that touches on all of us just the same. School officials claimed the shirt, with the language shown above, was not protected under constitutional rights of free speech. Then again, how could anyone ever be allowed to criticize the most thin-skinned Messiah I've ever seen? So its a matter of free speech vs. offensive speech - which one should win out in the public schools. Teachers said the shirt caused too much of an uproar, the kid says he has the right to wear it - and that it didn't break any of the school dress guidelines. We ask, you comment - 800.345.9622 - call us toll free in hour one. Resource: The Kind of Man Every Man Should Be. 2. So... how 'bout that Vegas jury huh... Apparently OJ isn't quite as much "the man" in Vegas as he was in Watts. So did he get what he had coming? GUILTY as charged on all 12 counts. Remarks I heard throughout the day today included, "...s'about dang time". I don't think there will be any riots tonight as he packs for the big house. But fess up - you KNOW he should've been in prison the first time and that it was all legal trickery that got him off... right? 800.345.9622 with your questions, observations, and comments. 3. Speaking of being "about time"... The SarahCuda has been let out, now that she aced her debate, and she's FINALLY talking about all the things that Mr. Obama mysteriously has not been asked about by the major press. But isn't fair game? The press asked Sarah about her associations with her "CHRISTIAN" church... (shudder), but refuse to quiz Obama about his anti-biblical theology. They pour the criticism on Palin for charges that she used undo influence, but with Obama they refuse to admit that he was a co-CEO with and admitted terrorist who told America - in the New York Times on 9.11 that he wished he'd killed more Americans. 4. And the gem of the night... PLUS: The audio and story of the night, you will NOT believe what Alec Baldwin and Bill Maher said this week. Seriously you will NOT believe it, you just won't believe it. I can't believe it, and I heard it - but you will NOT believe it. It's truly a mind bender... DON'T FORGET IN JUST TWO WEEKS: On October 18th come out for our first LIVE remote from Glen Cove Long Island at GLYBooks. We'll be signing books, doing the show live and taking your comments instead of callers - LIVE at GlyBooks. We'd like to thank our sponsors for making it all happen: Christian Values Network, Compassion International, GLYBooks.com, and Hit Me Energy Shots. Listen online: BMXRadio970 AM in New YorkBlogTalkRadioStations carrying the show: New York City - AM 970 Washington DC - AM 580 Salt Lake UT – AM 820 Jacksonville FL – FM 91.9 Charlotte NC – AM 960 Richmond VA - AM 580 Newark NJ - AM 970 Virginia Beach VA – AM 1010 Trenton NJ - AM 970 Greensboro NC - AM 830 Hartford CT - AM 970 Winston-Salem NC - AM 830 Cape Cod Mass - AM 970 High Point NC – AM 830 Roanoke VA – AM 910 Hackensack NJ - AM 970 St Augustine FL – FM 103.7 Danbury CT - AM 970 Statesville NC – AM1400 Mocksville NC – AM 1520 Bridgeport CT - AM 970 **NEW** Lexington KY - AM 1250 **NEW** Cincinnatti Oh - AM 1050 **NEW** International Falls, Mn - FM 99.5 KBHW **NEW** Knoxville, Tn - AM 620 WRJZ If you would like to have a station near you carry the broadcast please have that station contact - Bryan Brown - bbrown@wtru.com or call 336/480-2038.

I have a hard time believing this story that the fashion world treats political parties equally. I have previously mentioned Versace's fashion line dedication to Obama but the newest fashion buzz is the Obama dress debuted at Paris Fashion Week. Some say that Paris Fashion Week had clothing inspired by both Obama and Palin (because one model had a beehive similar to Palin's hair, minus the bangs). Would I mind if the hair was Palin-inspired? No. ButI don't think that one model's hairstyle should be waved as the banner of fashion's nuetrality in politics especially when it is put up against a dress emblazoned with the Democrat candidate's face.

My congressman, Bob Goodlatte, voted against the government bailout and I thought he had a great response: As Congress continues working to address the serious economic crisis facing our nation, we must not forget that when we continue to send hundreds of billions of dollars overseas to purchase foreign oil every year it is a major contributor to this crisis and economic down turn. In fact, it is estimated that the United States drains away $700 billion a year on foreign oil. Ironically, this is the same amount of funding the Administration claims is needed to rescue our struggling financial institutions. Congress must take action to make our country energy independent, preventing this issue from continuing to threaten our economic security. For every three barrels of oil our nation consumes, more then two are imported from other nations - much of it from regimes that don't share our values or our vision for the world's future. Last year the United States imported 2.2 billion barrels of oil from OPEC countries like Venezuela, Iran, Libya and Saudi Arabia. With oil hovering over $100 a barrel that means the U.S. sent approximately $220 billion overseas to these countries alone. Abundant and affordable energy and energy conservation are the keys to a strong economy. Until alternative fuel technology becomes more affordable and convenient, our cars, our jobs, and our economic growth will run on traditional energy sources, like oil, natural gas and clean burning coal. We must encourage environmentally sound ways to find and use more of these resources in our own country.
I am pleased to be a cosponsor of the American Energy Act, legislation that promotes the development of all our energy resources. The American Energy Act is an 'All of the Above' strategy aimed at lowering gas prices and liberating America from its dependence on foreign oil. The hundreds of billions of dollars we send out of our country to buy foreign oil is sapping the strength of our economy and must be stopped. The American Energy Act will help create millions of American jobs and will move our nation toward independence from foreign sources of energy. Specifically, the legislation lifts the moratorium on drilling along the Outer Continental Shelf. Estimates indicate that 3 million barrels a day will be produced. It opens the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for drilling, potentially producing another million barrels of oil a day. It opens to development the oil shale in the Rocky Mountain states, which may be the largest oil deposits in the world, assuring a reliable domestic source as we transition to alternative sources of energy. It encourages diversification of our energy supplies with alternative sources, including renewable fuels and wind, solar and hydrogen power and encourages the production of more nuclear power which provides CO2 emission-free energy. Finally, the legislation reduces the bureaucratic red tape that currently exists and has prevented the construction of new oil refineries since the late 1970s. Our inability to set a national energy policy is affecting all Americans and sucking the lifeblood out of our economy. It is a major long term contributor to the economic instability we are currently experiencing. I will continue to support a change to new policies that will encourage promotion of exploration, innovation, and conservation and lower energy prices for consumers, which will make America stronger.

You heard me! The reviews continue to come in on my brand new book, and I continue to be THRILLED with the response it is receiving on critical levels. Yesterday STONES CRY OUT book reviewer Tom Parsons weighed in: Mr. McCullough, however, doesn’t simply make cultural observations in laying out the problems that men face. To his credit, he shares openly how he has been directly affected by his own struggle to understand what it means to be a man of God. His honesty about his own failings is both startling and refreshingly honest. By being willing to open up and offer a glimpse into his own past he brings a sense of authenticity to the problem.
I am humbled by Tom's generous comments. And he's right. This book has MUCH personal observation of why my gender has in so many ways checked out and not returned to their crucial role in today's all important decisions, issues, and needs in life.
Having thoroughly documented the problem, he then progresses to offering practical solutions. He very neatly encapsulates each idea in a simple slogan that is easy to remember (e.g. “Believe With Certainty”, “Act With Clarity”, “Fight With Tenacity”, to name a few). These action steps help the reader understand how they can practically apply the principles outlined in the book...
While this book is primarily written for men, it’s also a great book for women. By reading this book, women can get a better idea of what God desires for men to be. It allows women to encourage the men that area of their lives. For a single woman, it gives a great portrait of what they should be looking for in a man.
Thanks Tom! And friends I hope and pray that the book does as much for you as what Tom shares in the extended version of the review.

I think we were missing some important facts in last night's discussion of the economy. Why didn't we hear that Franklin Raines, appointed by the the Clinton administration to run Fannie Mae (and retired with $100 million in bonuses) has advised Barack Obama? Why didn't we hear that Fannie Mae gave millions of dollars to Democrats...and who was in the top two candidates who received donations? Sen. Barack Obama. Why didn't we hear about the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act "that requires bank and savings and loan associations to offer credit throughout their entire market area" which basically means that for the past 35 years, banks have been required to give loans to people who they knew (from day one) could never repay the loans? My final comment on last night's debate is that I don't think it's right that the mainstream media continues to overlook Biden's only statement that: 'I think he [Obama] can be ready but right now, I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training" and I think most of the questions were too big and too vague to be answered in 90 seconds... "What campaign promises do you not intend to keep?" "What is your real weakness?" "What are the causes of global warming?" Come on, Gwen. And apparently only one network thought it was newsworthy that the moderator is writing a book about Obama and wrote an article entitled "O Come Let Us Adore Him [Obama]".

Now Joe... I've been in three airports in as many days. As it was, I was stuck rather interminably in one yesterday for a good long while. I'm back in one at 5:30am this morning.
I caught the end of the debate live, watched much of the reaction by all pundits - of all persuasions - from all political viewpoints that called last night, "game, set, match" for Palin.
But the REAL confirmation was Front Page USA this morning:
New York Times: "Pointed but Cordial" USA Today: "Campaigns await results of spirited debate" New York Post: "Sarah Show" New York Daily News: "Pit bull bites Biden"
As I got to my seat to settle in for some blogging before flying, CNN blares over my shoulder, "Both campaigns are claiming victory in what was an obvious tie last night..."
Since the mainstream media would NEVER admit a loss to Palin, then you have to understand what all of them are saying.
NONE declared Biden a winner.
Verdict: PALIN WON BIG!

It is so strange to me that one edited, biased interview with Couric affected public approval of Palin...that one media interview is what she had to compete against tonight (not Joe-I don't think Obama is ready to be President-Biden). Instant reaction polling is showing that people are pleased with her performance because they expected her to be more like the person they saw with Couric). I was disappointed that her inexperience was brought up and she didn't say anything about Obama's audacity to run for president after 143 days in the Senate.
I wish she had taken a stronger stance against Biden's view that same-sex couple have "constitutional rights" as couples. I believe it is not the government's role to discriminate but it is also not the government's role to condone unnatural sexual behavior as a legitimate reason to have marital rights. Our government doesn't make laws against homosexuals...our government makes laws to protect marriage, the most fundamental social unit in society, as it is defined not just by the Bible but by every past civilization and culture and basic anatomy.
I also think Palin could have given a better explanation of the realities of the tax system and that the best way to help the poor is not to mindlessly tax the wealthy (who already carry 85% of the tax burden) and funnel money into a welfare system that has proven to be an ineffective, inefficient bureacratic mess. The top 1% of wage earners pay 39% of the taxes. The lower 50% account for only THREE PERCENT of taxes. We do not and should not agree with Obama's recent proposal to give 50 million dollars to a UN program that hopes to magically eliminate world poverty. We do not agree with Sen. Biden's recent comments that it is the "patriotic duty of wealthy Americans to pay more taxes."
Overall, I enjoyed the debate but think it is ridiculous that Palin had to jump through hoops of whether or not she is qualified or experienced...hoops that our favorite little freshman senator never had to endure. I also think it is ridiculous that Biden spoke as if Bush (not McCain) was on the ballot. Complaining about the past eight years and pretending like the challenges facing our nation are a result of one administration is a lame tactic for campaign centered around "Change" and "Hope."
I was in the Xcel Center when Palin first addressed the GOP Convention. I am not suprised to see her do well in a debate, to show that she is knowledgable and articulate. I'm just glad the American people got to finally see that in a live, unedited debate.

...sad circus site... It would be sad enough to realize going into tonight's debate that the mere coverage of the Vice Presidential candidates has been so entirely lopsided in the run-up that fair observers of the process would laugh at the thought of "bias free" press. But the attack mechanisms unlocked against Sarah Palin in recent days pale in comparison to the many sadly horrible realities going into tonight... 1. Fair Scrutiny: While Palin has been pounded by Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, David Letterman, and anyone and everyone else in mainstream entertainment and "journalism" circles, the question awaiting the MAJORITY of Americans (and not the circus animals that live to french kiss Andrew Sullivan's navel) is - "when do Obama and Biden get 'equal time'?" Obama's got more legitimate skeletons that deserve invesitigation, vetting, and explanation than ANYTHING we've come close to learning about Palin, and unlike Palin he IS the head of the ticket. 2. Conflict of Interest: Gwen Ifill should be removed by the commission on presidential debates. SHE HAS A legitimate "interests" in seeing Obama do well tonight. (Heck the press she has received on the last few days alone has her "pre-order" Amazon numbers cracking her into the top 100.) Understanding this - the commission needs to recognize that not only is she not an unbiased moderator - but that she will likely be unable to prevent herself from posturing questions, responses, looks on her face that will BENEFIT her PERSONALLY, and FINANCIALLY. Gwen is a scallywag for not bringing the issue to the commission's attention, but now that she has - it is imperative that she be removed or the commission itself will lose its own brand and credibility. 3. Biding Biden: The main reason that this debate will be worse than inane is that Joe Biden is a tempest. He's impetulant, he's inarticulate, he also makes crap up. A LOT. And what he doesn't he mostly just plagerizes. Couric wanted to pounce on Palin for not being able to give her a litany of Supreme Court cases, but if it had been Biden the cases likely would've been imaginary. One can only hope that he - as was the case with his ticketmate - will lose his cool and further insult "six-pack" America by ridiculously ridiculing the closest thing the working class of this country has had to the executive office in generations.

MORE REAL! “You’re more real than the tears that fill my eyes!”Those are the words that ring out on what is arguably the best song (More Real) on Brooke Barrettsmith’s self-titled brand new debut rock album. The song is brilliant for Barrettsmith on several levels, it allows the full gamut of who this incredibly talented song-writer, singer, guitar-playing, incredibly motivated ball of energy is. Granted much of Brooke’s debut album is not aimed at hitting me as it’s primary target. And keeping in line with what the music world is offering to the 13-26 female crowd these days Brooke hits the spot on the energetic upbeat tunes that pervade the record. But what makes Brooke’s debut effort so astounding is the broad strokes that the mid-tempo, and ballad selections offer as emotive missive’s of truth that break the clutter of the noise that has become the largely forgettable world of Christian music. Brooke is no pansy Christian singer/songwriter and these anthems do not touch on cliched themes of “unity” or “bringing ‘us’ all together.” Brooke Barrettsmith has instead decided to rip her heart and soul out into the lyrics that will be sitting in your mind the rest of the day after you’ve completed listening to the CD the very first time. What is amazing is that as the world of music that has been offered up for today’s younger generation “works so hard” at trying to be “positive” and “offering new alternatives” for the teens that download their MP3’s instead of buying old fashioned CD’s - it has failed on nearly every level. Miley, Demi, Jonas Bros, are at times acceptable. The summer’s biggest star of disgust - Katy Perry - has run completely in the opposite direction. And Britney, Jessica, and Lindsay have become worse than caricatures. This is why Brooke Barrettsmith has become such an important voice. This record doesn’t offer mildly milquetoast pablum. This record and the truth contained therein are unlocking solutions for a generation that is seeking them - all while musically entertaining their ears off. Many will remember Brooke from her appearances on American Idol. What I could never quite figure out was how in the world the judges passed her over for the finalists they did put through. Brooke was arguably among the top five in terms of raw talent in the class that housed Daughtry, Elliot Yamin, Kat McPhee, and the Soul Patrol's captain Taylor Hicks. (The last two of which recently got canned from their record labels.) But what the apathy of the American Idol judges intended for bad, Brooke’s heavenly Father intended for good. Take the test for yourself - compare Brooke’s debut album - against any of the other complete albums of the top five finalists of that year. With perhaps the exception of Daughtry’s historic work, Brooke’s stands head and shoulders above the rest of that entire Idol class. And it’s not by mistake. Which is what YOU would be committing if you missed the opportunity to listen, feel, understand, and be infected by Brooke’s contagious, outrageous, energetic, and captivating work.

savin' my boy's hide... Dodd knew that if the Senate also failed it would be a major indictment on the Democratic Party to have the majority in both houses AND the candidate who is the odds on favorite, in the odds on year to win the Presidency - and NOT be able to close the deal. Well with the help of several pro-bailout GOP Senators, Dodd got his wish and Obama didn't have to weigh in AGAIN on the issue. Hey - here's a thought - how 'bout I don't feel like paying my mortgage bill and someone comes and gives me a whole bunch of money from YOUR bank account and give it to me... Heh? Sound good? Oh yeah - and with part of the cashola ACORN gets to fix several crooked state elections on Nov. 4. Peachy! Now it will be up to House Republicans to again stand up and call the Fannie Mae, and Freddy Mac corruption what it now has been revealed to be... "Business as usual," for the Liberal/Democrat/Waters/Meeks/Franks consortium. Something tells me the House might not be up to the task this time around though... but we'll wait and see. Sources told me earlier today that the phones were ringing off the hook to member's DC offices.

Katie Couric never ceases to think that her liberal bias will pass off as subliminal indoctrination of her audiences rather than the blatant inconsistency that it regularly is. In a segment of her interview with Gov. Palin, Couric says: "Palin says she makes no apologies for her pro-life views."
What is there about pro-life views to apologize for? What could Palin legitimately say? "I'm sorry I don't want the government to use my tax dollars to fund doctors who put scissors in the back of babies heads and suck their brains out?" "I'm sorry I believe human rights begin at conception and that it is an atrocity that 1/3 of my children's generation has been aborted?" "I'm sorry I believe that if a baby is born alive they deserve medical treatment rather than being left in a closet to starve to death?" If anyone should be questioned about whether or not they have "apologies" about their views, I think it should be the ones who actually TAKE lives under an obscure reference to ""penumbras, formed by emanations", not those who protect them.
