"Jesus never asked why someone was sick!"

Hillary Clinton became the latest liberal, pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage, anti-family candidate to take Rick Warren's pulpit and turn it into a podium of iniquity.

She knew of course that she would receive major kudos within the faith community for speaking at the largest evangelical pulpit in America. And according to Politico - that's exactly how it's being spun...

Speaking at Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., today, Hillary Rodham Clinton used a forum on AIDS and religion to burnish her spiritual faith credentials, dropping in verses from James, citing Isaiah and relating how Jesus “never asked why someone was sick.”

"Burnish her faith credentials..." That sounds a lot to me like "getting an endorsement from the pulpit of Rick Warren and his seeker friendly somewhat converted "congregation."

And actually Hills, Jesus DID care how people lived - and if they would make the healthy choice to live as he instructed - they would not get AIDS.

Invitation
I wonder if Romney or Huckabee will get an invitation to speak at Saddleback?

Saddleback
Mr. Warren,

You surprise me. Letting this person in your church. I guess I can mark you off my list of people to follow or listen to.

If this is what you really stand for then I don't need to listen to any of your opinions anymore.

Very sad.

Kind of forgot about blood transfusions in the 80's didn't you OR maybe you forgot the kids of mothers with aids.

But I guess Jesus kicks them off the cloud with much joy -- sorry infant you didn't live your life with healthy choices. Eternal fire for you. BuhBye!!

Disgusting Kevin. Really.

Your point about people accidentally getting the disease was predictable. Noone ever said ANYTHING about denying treatment to victims like that, but the fact is that of all the people who have the aids probably an easy 99% of them got it from engaging in bahavior that they KNOW is risky.

"If they made the healthy choice to live as Jesus instructed they would not get AIDS."

That statement is TRUE and those who do not make that choice
Uncle Max writes: Friday, November, 30, 2007 7:05 AM
as I was saying
are perfectly aware of it. They choose to take the risk.

Facts are facts

Your zinger "I guess Jesus kicks them off the cloud with much joy" was just idiotic and distorts the whole discussion.

It is not semantics Uncle Max. Look at what Kevin said "...if they would make the healthy choice to live as he instructed - they would not get AIDS."

I guess that unless you are a hard core right wing ideologue you aren't indoctrinated into the secret society and doublespeak that makes that an entirely different statement...

Say what you mean and mean what you say is my motto... wait I thought that was a conservative kind of principle... how terribly confusing that must be for you.

Cite your source for 99% (and not the Rush Limbaugh kind of source). Kay? didn't think you could... what a surprise.

No GOPers at Saddleback
They would lose their 501c status, if anyone conservative, or impersonating a conservative, was allowed in the pulpit. Liberals need only apply
doctaz writes: Friday, November, 30, 2007 9:08 AM
Jesus knew
Jesus didn't ask while people were sick because He already knew. He told those who were sick because of sin to "go and sin no more."

Using the Innocent as Cover
"Kind of forgot about blood transfusions in the 80's didn't you OR maybe you forgot the kids of mothers with aids."

Who accidentally contaminated the blood supply as a result of their own self-destructive and narcissistic behavior? It wasn't spontaneous generation.

And how do mothers still get AIDS? Three answers: their own "high risk behavior" (intravenous drugs and prostitution), bad conduct by unfaithful husbands/boyfriends, or sexual slavery/ forced prostitution. In the first case there is one innocent victim and in the other cases there are two innocent victims.

All of which comes back to political and moral leaders not standing up at the outset and demanding that people live in ordered liberty, not licentiousness. Instead, libertines hide behind their truly innocent victims.

Jesus DID care how people lived
And he actually did ask at least one woman about her lifestyle. Check out John 4. And he still offered her eternal life.
Baby Karl writes: Friday, November, 30, 2007 11:50 AM
Dale is correct...
And as He (Jesus) healed people, He forgave them, and as He forgave them - he said, "Go - AND SIN NO MORE!"

Not because He was a tyrant stealing their fun. But because HIS LOVE for them so overwhelmed Him that he wanted to see their lives turn for the best!

Sometimes - in fact nearly always - the most LOVING thing that can be said is the TRUTH, and that's still usually true regardless of the consequence of telling it is...

CORRECTING McCullough's Ignorance
1. Rick Warren has NEVER invited any politician to speak at a church service, speak directly to his congregation, or speak behind his pulpit,(and has stated that he never will allow it).He has said "No polician will ever use my pulpit. It is for the word of God only.)

2. The Global Summit on AIDS was NOT a church service of Saddleback members. It was a conference gathering 2000 Doctors, Scientists, Researchers, Health Authorities, Christian Humanitarian Groups (World Vision, World Relief, Compassion, Samaritan's Purse, Feed the Children, Salvation Army etc) and International leaders from around the world.

3. No pulpit was used either this year or last year. It was a music stand. McCullough has consistently exaggerated and intentionally deceived, refusing to correct all his mistakes. His words smack of self-prmotion, not humility. I doubt Rick Warren even knows who he is.

4. Huckabee, McCain, Brownback, Romney, Giulaini and the others were ALL invited to come speak and anwers one question: "What would you do about the 40 million children and women and men with AIDS if you were elected president?

5. Huckabee, McCain, Romney, Edwards and Obama all sent video speeches which were played. Clinton was the only who chose to show up live.

6. Anyone who has read Purpose Driven Life knows that in no less that 4 places, Warren adamantly opposes abortion and anyone who cares to do research knows this.

7. The venonous rants of a couple of minor columnists are based on ignorance of the facts. It just makes them look small.

6. Many of us will be waiting to see if McCullough has the integrity to to admit that both year and this he made flat out false statements about Warren's pupit.

Christianity portrayed as Jesus caring for the lepers of today's societyL 1.

McCullough - zero.

I used to respect Rick Warren...
I loved his book, Purpose Driven Life. And, in fact, I probably still respect him as a religious person, but I think he is incredibly naive to invite someone like Hillary to speak. He is in essence politicizing his church, his mission, etc.
RepubGuy writes: Friday, November, 30, 2007 12:19 PM
The wrong question
1. Not once, never- did Jesus ask sick people "How did you get sick?" He just healed everyone who came to him.

2.Sin- either directly or indirectly because we live on a fallen planet now-causes ALL illness - but it is not a sin to be sick!

3. If you have a heart attack because you ate too much wrong food (a poor health choice) sould the doctors say "It's your fault, so tough luck. You are on your own!"

4 As I heard at the Summit "The face of AIDS used to be a white gay guy. Now the face of AIDS around the world is a black or brown woman. More women have AIDS than men now. More children have AIDS around the world now that there are homosexuals in the world. But does that matter. No. Jesus commanded that we must show love and compassion to everyone who is sick.
Question- do you want to be like Jesus or like self-righteous columnists?
RepubGuy writes: Friday, November, 30, 2007 12:29 PM
What standard- applied to you?
I heard Warren (don't remember which one) say this:

Let's say you are in a car accident- and it was ever YOUR fault. You are now lying on the road bleeding to death. Someone needs to help you get to a hospital. Would you refuse help from a Democrat like Hillary Clinton? Would you refuse help from a Muslim who stopped to help? If a Christian could not move you by himself, and an atheist offered to partner and get you in the car to the hospital, would you say "Sorry, I only accept help from people I agree with 100%?" I doubt it.
Hypocrites never follow their own rules when applied to themselves.

There are millions of people around the world dying on the side of the road. You can't get them all in the car by yourself. If you life was at stake, all of the sudden your puny partisanship would vanish and you'd appreciate anybody partnering to get you to the hospital.

Virus.
This is still the only virus that neo-cons and "Christian/Republicans" spin through the holier-than-thou machine.

KMC even has a voice over in which he mentions a child that has AIDS. Then he adds the telling words: "....through no fault of his own...."

Can't remember the last time heart disease or cancer patients were blamed for their conditions.

I have no clue how to follow all of that. Plus RepubGuy, you mentioned all the outsiders that are invited to the AIDS Summit... Did Mr. Warren not also invite the "family" of Saddleback to attend? Aren't the volunteers who work the conference in fact nearly exclusively Saddleback members/attendees?

I'm sure that to you there is no association whatsoever between the pulpit and Mrs. Clinton.

So speaking behind the podium, on the stage, in the worship center, to the congregation of Rick Warren's church - doesn't equate to being "in the pulpit" in your mind. But for Christians who understand the history of the symbols of the church (and the section of the new testament related to faithful teaching) understand that to equate the geography of pastoral ministry with evil that opposes God's word and function is to in essence create heresy.

But no worries - that just more of "God stuff" that purpose drivelers have little use for...
Christian Manfred writes: Saturday, December, 01, 2007 2:57 PM
Wow!
Usualy KMC is better than that when he tries to wiggle out of cold, hard facts. Or, usually he just doesn't respond at all.

Here's the core of the problem: to KMC and the rest of the Born Again population, none of the rest of us are "true" Christians. We don't toe their line, recite their little speeches and dare to think that maybe -- just maybe! -- God is not limited to their dogma.

Makes for interesting chatter!
