...a personal observation... This July 4th weekend, my neighborhood in suburban metro New York City, the Lovely Bride and I are out for a drive running some errands when we discover the following... Have you noticed the following as well? Let me know in the comment section...
In a roughly ten square mile radius to our home, not a single home that flew an American flag (dozens) - especially ours - had an Obama yard sign in it...
And not a single home that an Obama yard sign (also dozens) flew an American flag - over the 4th of July weekend...
I'm just sayin'...
All I need to prove I love my country is put the Right sign in my yard, matched up with the American flag. Both of which, were probably made in India or China.
All I need to prove I love my country is to wear a 3/4" piece of plastic on my lapel, shaped like an American flag. A piece of plastic, by the way, which is usually made by a child in one of Tom DeLay's God-forsaken Thrid World Sweat Shops.
You Neo-Cons sure do love your empty symbolism! |
|
Kevin:
Maybe you should keep your eyes on the road when you are driving.
Goat:
The emptiest symbol of all for these people is if you say "I'm A Christian!" you can get away with anything.
You can invade a sovereign, non-threatening country that poses absolutely no danger to you whatsoever....
You can bomb tens of thousands of perfectly innocent civilians into oblivion (not into Heaven, of course, because they are Muslims).....
You can laugh and lie as an entire city in your own country vanishes under a hurricane.....
You can read to 2nd graders while your own citizens are jumping to their deaths.....
You can ignore your own borders as tens of thousands of illegals pour into your country....
The list goes on and on....
But as long as you continue to say "I'm A Christian!" sheep-le like KMC will defend you. |
|
|
The American Flag is empty symbolism? Only to a lonely, liberal goat. |
|
And I didn't even have anything to do with it except make an observation about actual dozens of people who live in my area...
Wow - it really got under Ex-Pats skin...
But given all the nonsense Ex-Pat listed that it obviously believes to be true - I'm not surprised at the quick trigger finger.
By the way ex-pat - if you hadn't noticed... Obama's been saying "I'm a Christian" all over the place - and it sure isn't convincing me...
Guess that blows your theory huh? |
|
have not considered that equation... don't generally equate one's patriotism simply whether you have an "R", a "D", or an "I" by your current political affiliation...
|
|
Wake up, boy! While I'm sure there are plenty of patriotic Democrats, the wing of the party from which Obama arose considers patriotism to be a an embarrassment.
That anti-military, anti-American bunch won the the fight in the '60's on college campuses. In Obama's circles it's perfectly acceptable to scream, "God d. America."
Obama's America is not a blessing to the world, but a curse. The more she can be cut down to size, militarily and economically, the more she will be forced to calm down and quit causing embarrassing trouble in the world.
The Left is mortified at the idea of American exceptionalism. The sooner America is just one nation among many and on the par of say, Somalia, the better.
The Left is mortified to wear a flag pin, fly a flag, put their hand over their heart, or shed a misty-eyed tear as a manifestation of heart-felt love of country.
So, the questions becomes: For whom will the patriotic Dems vote? I say Mack. |
|
In 14 miles in Durham, Jon Ham aka "Mary Katharine's dad" found exactly one Obama supporter flying an American flag: http://triangle.johnlocke.org/blog/?p=2338
It took Day Two to find one, too. |
|
your last question is a fair question.
i don't have an answer. but remember that many of Obama's supporters are not from the old 60's days. they are young twenty-somethings, and they are not still fighting the ghosts of the past... |
|
|
The flag is a substitute for TRUE partiotism ... like putting an Obama for President sign in your yard ... |
|
|
just vote for Obama and shut up ... that will prove your love of America ... oh, excuse me, God Damn America in the words of your messiah's preacher ... |
|
doesn't Obama say he's a Christian ?
Afganistan never attacked us ...
Germany never attacked us ... |
|
Here's my perspective. The war that was fought on the campuses was won by the libs. Since that time schools have been, by in large, liberal indoctrination centers, to the degree that kids are educated at all.
The youth are not fighting the ghosts of the past; they have no clue about the past. They are the living manifestation of past battles won.
To them the government does not exist to protect their God-given rights. It exists to hand out yet more and more goodies, end all war and protect the environment from evil Republicans.
The youth vote is swooning in the streets over Obama because they have been educated by the Ward Churchills. The younguns cannot fathom another way to think, (should they deign to think at all.)

What is the purpose of placing a candidate's sign in your yard? For most it is to demonstrate to those driving, jogging, walking, biking or skating by your home that you believe in the candidate so strongly and unashamedly that you want everyone to know it. When most of us place such signs in our yards it also reflects our aligned ideologies with the party of the candidate. We all have driven past homes that have decorative signs or plaques greeting guests, or even in some cases signifying dogs or cats are present, or not welcome in the yard. Some people have been known to have tacky yard art of all kinds in their yards. All of which gives you an insight into the people living in the home. What I find amusing about all this debate of to flag or not to flag is that the Left becomes so incredibly defensive, or in most cases vile and attacking of those purely questioning where they stand on one of our most endearing and beloved patriotic symbols. We take our national symbols and their treatment seriously. Just look at all the fallout over the revised Presidential seal given to us by the Obama campaign! So, to all you Lefties out there outraged by our questioning where you stand regarding the American flag- can it! If you would quit burning our flag, demeaning our military, (Murtha et al in Congress), altering our Presidential symbols, wear a flag lapel pin without inserting controversy, stop saying you are not proud of our country and removing the Pledge of Allegiance from public schools; then perhaps we would not find you so suspect when it comes to you patriotism. As the old saying goes if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck; then it must be a duck! |
|
|
I remember seeing flags in the neighborhood when I grew up. Dad (then a Democrat) would joke about the "commies" who didn't fly flags. It wasn't a partisan thing, it was an American thing. If KMC's observations are an accurate representation of Obama's supporters, then the problem is with them, not KMC and other's who notice the absence of Old Glory. As has been stated before, this is not a Democrat problem as much as a leftist problem. I live in a generally Democrat/rural area and the flag is everywhere on the 4th. |
|
been a democrat, never, so i cannot be a "neocon". This assertion is important because we have a leftist fool like "the goat" who looks for "neocons" under his bed each night. To be on the left is by definition to be at odds with the founding principals of America. They have been waging war with them for the last 45 years, calling the Founders, "homophobic, sexist, racist, European and white" for goodness sakes, the horror of it all. They have refused to teach the history of the founding, truthfully. Leftists, particularly hate the notion of American sovereignty, and love the International Criminal Court and the United Nations. Under these two far left groups, they believe they can eliminate God and guns , something they have been attempting to do for 45 years as well. The left is the greatest enemy this country has ever faced, much more dangerous than Al Qeada, Ahmadinanutter, China, Russia or whomever and if they are left to there own devices, this country as it appears today, would cease to exist. UNPATRIOTIC, the left is the very definition of the word. Old Glory means nothing to these scumbags, in fact, the flag infuriates them and especially what that flag stands for.
vote obambi...fools voting for a fool... |

Obama may not be a Muslim, but he is a Communist. Would you let us know when the Baldwin/McCullough Radio Experience will be on air and where? Also, will you discuss politics? What will your forum be? I emailed you about it but you never answered :( Will it be announced on your blog of the bmxradionow.com site? |

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
What Ex-Pat In Geneva should have said is that anyone who jumps up to say "I am a Born Again," or "I am an Evangelical" gets all those passes.
None of those passes are given to those of us poor mortals who are just regular, garden variety Christians. |
|
Goat?
(This out to be interesting...)
Please define - at minimum what you believe, "garden variety Christianity" is?
|
|
... is that none of these W-philes even know what "My Pet Goat" really means.
|
|
Pretty much everyone does ex-pat...
BTW... I was meaning to ask - do you want us to understand your nickname literally.
I mean an ex-patriot is someone who no longer loves their country...
I'm just askin? |

The comments back & fourth are entertaining, but some do have a ring of truth to them, Ok, just by wearing a "pin" does not neccesarily make me more patroitic than the next guy, but it does to me & most Americans represent the Blood, sweat & tears that were and are being shed for my freedom as I write this. If you just turn a blind eye as to how we maintain our freedom, you could one day become the victim of the very oppressors that are intent on destroying our way of life. You have Liberal so-called Professors drilling away at our youth's uninformed minds, filling them with doubt & remorse for being a privledged American. Our Colleges have become the breeding grounds for un-American ranting, idealistic, religion haters, etc. One of our biggest problems is the Enemy within, those who choose to ignore history, and are damned & determined to repeat it, nevermind the consequences. Our fore Fathers would roll over in their graves if they could see what has happened to the America that they fought so hard for. Patiotism is being re-defined by the Liberals as anything but love or Aliegence to this Nation. If you hate it so much, please, do the rest of us a favor & leave it....you'll be back, guaranteed... |

Sorry, but your definition of an "Expatriate" is wrong. It means a person who is a citizen of one country, but lives/works in another. It has nothing to do with patriotism or love of country.
There are currently about 85,000 civilian US Expatriates living/working in foreign countries. (Not sure if that includes Cheney's private contractors and psychopathic mercenaries in Iraq.)
We are as American as they come -- wife and our two children. Son born in London (8); Daughter born in Sydney, Australia (5); but both are US citizens.
My wife and I are native Texans and still own our home near Galveston. We pay all US taxes AND foreign taxes. We certainly vote and keep up with all US news -- so you can't blame my disgust with all things Bush on a lack of knowledge, allegiance or concern.
I work for IBM. We get sent out on 3 year assignments. We usually get at least one year back home between assignments and we try to make as many trips back as possible (we're home for all of August this year).
Geneva is our first non-English speaking assignment. We've been here one year last week. We like it here, beautiful city and surrounding area, but the sun doesn't shine too much. It's 4PM here now. The sun was out earlier, but now it's cloudy again. |
|
|
I haven't seen that many Obama signs to begin with but rest assured, all of the signs seen every single one with one exception had an American flag. I have 3 McCain signs in my yard but only one flag, does that make me 2/3 less patriotic, going on the one sign per flag ratio? |
|
|
Simply put, it is one loves the Lord, but also enthusiastically rejects all who claim to be "Born Again" and/or "Evangelicals." |
|
I'm an American who happens to be non-white.
I'm a Servant of Yahweh, the god of the Bible.
I'm not putting up a flag of Africa, the U.S., Israel, or a cross in my yard, in my house, or on my person...
...yet I know that Father Yahweh choose that I would be born of a woman here on American soil, out of all the places in the world, including Africa, South America or Asian.
I'm blessed where I am, and I thank HIM for it, not YOU or anyone else in ANY country.
HIM and HIS ways not only TRUMP, but are far different than the ways of America and most Americans.
My spiritual identity and priorities come FIRST. Everything else is just that - everything else. |
|
Well, there are so many people who call themselves Christian, it could mean pretty much anything. A great many people just celebrate Christmas and Easter with their families and don't claim to possess pristine moral authority or a personal relationship with an omnipotent supernatural being who is obsessed with homosexuals.
And then there are evangelical Christians. Evangelicals claim to have the PUREST, most literal interpretation of scripture but they certainly cherry-pick just like anyone else who defines himself as a Christian, or else they'd all be in jail for stoning adulterers.
More examples of cherry-picking: warfare that inevitably leads to the death and relocation of hundreds of thousands of women and children is nothing to get your gander up about, but gay marriage is the END of the WORLD. It's a warped, indefensible moral code that makes no real sense to any rational person, but to evangelicals, it's perfectly reasonable! |
|
..has a very interesting take.
Seeing as this contemporary Christianity is not the one of Scripture, and the people in this age don't do what it says, no wonder so-called "liberals" AND "conservatives" are unable to DO NOTHING to have positive change in the lives of those they deem unsalvageable.
They are lawless people, disobedient in nearly every way, yet wonder how the political landscape is so filled with those whom they SHOULD be rebuking, but instead find favor.
Nicolaitans, antinomian scoffers, and friends with the world is what they are.
Father Yahweh, the Creator is NOT partisan, and his ways are so far from theirs that it's no wonder so many believers are choosing not to associate themselves in nomenclature and company with "christians" and "conservatives".
|
|
as in "love the Lord."
The Lord himself gave a very specific definition of what loving Him meant.
How do you define it? |
|
Great question, Kevin. And here's the answer: my relationship with the Lord is between Him and me. It's none of your damned buisness.
And THAT is exactly the problem with all of you Evangelicals and BAs. You presume you are somehow entitled to challenge others on their faith as if you are the gate keepers. You have ZERO permission/authority!
You tend to your relationship with God and I'll take care of mine. (Or, as I recently saw on a bumper sticker: "Focus on your own family.") |
|
We live in a country with about 80% of the population that claims to be Christian. Obviously there are varying levels of commitment in that 80% - no where near that is at church every week.
KMC and others like him would probably only count 15-20% of the population as Christian. I don't mind someone thinking they are right - if you are actively following a spiritual path I hope you believe in it. The problem is that you want to monopolize the title of Christian, excluding Catholics, Episcopalians, Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and many other churches whose teachings run afoul of your beliefs. |
|
...by Senator Obama or anyone else is rather fruitless, especially since you don't do what He says.
There is plenty of foolishness and blame to go around on the "left" and the "right".
People think they are good and they are NOT. The level of cognitive dissonance that has been displayed since this man (Obama) has run for President is grieving the Holy Ghost. (For those who know who the Holy Ghost is, and what his purpose is).
No wonder the truly virtuous people amongst us don't even run for public office. I wouldn't want to be your President, cause you don't have any sense. |
|
I was asking an intellectually curious question.
The discussion here morphed into "What is a real Christian". Your take on it is to "love the Lord."
My question is how do you define that?
I'm being genuine in my desire to know your definition.
I'm not being smart or anything - just genuinely interested in your take on it...

Actually your wrong! Unless IBM exciled you to Geneva the term expatriot dose not apply to your current situation. Since you werent (exciled) to Geneva the term means only two things. To withdraw (oneself) from residence in one's country or to withdraw (oneself) from allegiance to one's country! So which one is it? |
|
"The emptiest symbol of all for these people is if you say "I'm A Christian!" you can get away with anything...You can laugh and lie as an entire city in your own country vanishes under a hurricane..You can read to 2nd graders while your own citizens are jumping to their deaths. The list goes on and on.." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I suppose you feel we Christians are ALSO responsible for the Nazi Third Reich, and World War 2. But you left a few out, so let me say them for you..and make your life easier!
You forgot to blame we Christians for world hunger. Now, don't forget to blame us for racial bigotry!
You can blame us for Madonna's marital problems. Tim Russert's untimely passing.
Senator Kennedy's tragic brain tumor And Rachel Maddow's sad and confused personal persuasion.
And the fact that humans do age.. And worldwide obesity.
The salmonella scare. Trans fats The ever-violent media
We thought all that up too. Between making stir-fry, and Bible-reading!
Don't forget Joan Rivers' plastic surgery. The schism between Europe and America. MTV.
And flat-feet.
Maybe we can just leave the page blank, so you may paste on your garden variety world problems-As a Christian, I am sure, you can always blame me..
Ooops, Global Warming!!! And these high gas prices!!!
(I so dislike degrading into sarcasm to make my points..You leave me little remedy)
Yes, strife in Ireland, low-rider jeans, and other fashion maladies..
I plead the fifth.. It was us..
I know your "list' goes "on and on"...
Ann Coulter summed a reply to this kind of thinking so nicely here:
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/AnnCoulter/2004/03/04/th e_passion_of_the_liberal?page=full&comments=true
I can't stay, as I'm off to cause some pain and a real bruha somewhere.
Bound to be me..
Later..peeps..
We Christians are busy!!!

Only got one comment because it wasn't worthy of anything else.

Perhaps you could purchase a dictionary. |
|
Peacefrog2r --
Just in case you're not smart enough to use a dictionary (And I have a feeling you're not!), here the a link you might helpful:
Webster's says: "to leave one's native country to live elsewhere"
I have a valid US passport in my pocket, a valid Texas driver's license in my wallet right along side my valid voter registration. Is that American enough for you?
And the tens of thousands of my fellow US citizens who are also working in foreign countries all refer to ourselves as "ex-pats."
Because I am hyper critical of all things having to do with this failed Administration, you need an angle. Sorry if your desperate need to question my patriotism has failed. Perhaps you could try another tactic.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/expatriate |
|
|
Never question your patriotism, anyway. you said IBM "sent" you to Geneva so naturally I assumed you were using the term ex-patriate as a verb. You with me? Now if you said you "voluntered" to go, using ex-patriate as a noun I whould have never asked you the question in the first place. Maybe if you break out that Webster's you'll see what I mean! |
|

Now take two aspirin and call me in the morning! |
