One thing not discussed yet...
The most "independent" partisan in a closely divided Senate, often has the most power. Think about it - how did Jim Jeffords create so much trouble? Divided Senate coupled with his "independence" made him a defiant and powerful figure...
On this note - let us all give thanks that that defiant and powerful figure has now shifted from Lincoln Chaffee to Joe Lieberman...
