A member of Rick Warren's Saddleback Church which we will call "Sheri" sent me this note just moments ago:

Hello,
I am a “member” of Saddleback and have been trying to keep up with all of the spin. I am now officially dizzy.
This as you can imagine is heartbreaking at best to learn of the inconsistencies of our dear pastor.
Please won’t you address the congregation and tell us what we can do, how we are to respond?

RE:Syria, “No recordings” Yet I saw video at Saturday evening service that was shot from there, and yesterday I heard the clip on WorldNetDaily.

Barack Obama – is speaking at SVCC – “sharing in person” Yet, pastor Rick says he “would never invite ANY politician to speak from the pulpit to the congregation. – Perhaps not on a Sunday service but he is obviously doing so at this conference.

I really do not understand.
Sincerely,
Sheri

My response:

Sheri,
I am burdened for you and other members who have some difficult decisions to make. Pastor Rick - Lied - to you, the congregation, and to the public about the issue of Syria - 3 times! Even a cursory understanding of scripture shows us that spiritual leaders and elders are to be "above reproach."

If you heard the clip on WND - then you have heard with your own ears - what Rick Warren has now thrice denied. He said what he said.

In terms of Obama. (And that is the story that I was most involved with.) It appears to me that Pastor Rick is again shading the truth - saying he would never invite, yet his invitation to Obama has not been rescinded.

Obama is a man whose character should in NO WAY be associated with anything related to leadership at Saddleback. If Obama were to be invited to come and attend, and find Jesus - then great. But to speak? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

And YOU Sheri need to speak out. Alert those you know in the church. Communicate with the church and voice your disapproval over this, and encourage others to do the same.

In all likelihood - Obama will still come and speak this weekend. The larger question will be left with you at that point is, "Is this the kind of spiritual leadership, and sheperding I want for my family in the community in which we worship?"

I'm so sorry I don't have better encouragement for you. But this is a difficult situation, and the only way through it is to ask the questions that HAVE to be asked by all who love the God of Truth!

My prayers are with you for these days ahead.
~KMC
