"They're comin' to America..."

Over the last few weeks - due to the crazy schedule that I have been having to keep my regular readers have noticed that my consistency in blogging has ebbed and flowed. I stopped blogging about Idol a couple of weeks back and honestly thought that I might be the only one who would miss my musically superior instincts on both what would happen - and reaction to what did. (Please note tongue planted firmly in cheek...)

All that to say I have not stopped following what was happening and perhaps after last week's complete robbery of justice per the performance of the finalists, several of you could take it no longer.

"KEV - WE WANT YOUR PRESCIENT THOUGHTS ON AMERICAN IDOL!"

Alrighty then... I've heard your all-too-kind e-mails and thus return to the Idolblogging.

Tonight the Idols will attempt to do justice to the classic crooner Neil Diamond. But before my thoughts on that let me weigh in on last weeks total injustice...

Jason Castro on any other week would/should have been summarily dismissed. His little girl treatment of "Memories" was an embarrassment to the Idol competition on every level. It is clear to anyone observing now that Castro's wink and a smile to the 13 year old girls across America is working, and as sad as it might sound if Brooke has another tumble tonight - he might be around for at least two more weeks.

Now having said that. One of the cardinal rules of American Idol is that you do NOT forget the lyrics. The judges unilaterally dismiss contestants during Hollywood week for doing so. The assumption moving forward from that time on is that you come to play - every, single, night...

It seems mind boggling to me that Brooke White can survive one more muff. One more stop and start (of which she's had two already) and I certainly think that justice demands that she not forget the words anymore. On the pure merits of American Idol expectations and fairness last week should have been Brooke White's swan song.

The reason that I am convinced she did survive is that while she is by a long stretch not even close to the most talented vocalist American Idol has ever seen, (she's probably EASILY 4th among the ones still left in this year's contestants) one thing is indisputable: She IS perhaps the most likable contestant the contest has ever had.

Just on pure talent alone the final three SHOULD be David Cook (probably odds on favorite at this point) Seyesha Mercado (undoubtedly the best pure singer left in the group) and David Archuletta (the boy version of super-sweet Brooke - but with massively more vocal power).

Something tells me however that Castro and White still have the chance to offset the purity of the contest as many would argue Carly's departure demonstrates from last week alone.

More on it later... but for those of you who have been so kind to say you've missed my thinking on the matter - I hope this tides you over.
