I know that because some headline writer for the AFP wrote it, I'm supposed to be all quivering with sadness over this headline:

"Guantanamo detainee Hicks feared US interrogators would shoot him"

But why?

The further I read the less I could understand:

Australian Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks feared he would be shot unless he cooperated with US interrogators in Afghanistan, according to a sworn statement presented to a British court.

In the affidavit, Hicks said he was slapped, kicked, punched and spat on after being arrested by coalition forces in the Central Asian country in 2001.

Hicks also said that he had heard other detainees screaming in pain, had seen evidence of beatings on fellow prisoners and had had a shotgun trained on him during questioning.

"I realised that if I did not cooperate with US interrogators, I might be shot," he said in the document handed to British authorities and obtained by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

What is this... Rain Man? "Ooooooh, he slapped, kicked, punched and spat at me..."

"Evidence of beatings...", "shotgun trained on him..." (heh... probably more like an M-16),

And the real keeper: "I realized that if I did not cooperate... I might be shot!"

And the Aussie terrorist bags the prize! Theentire piece was written as though he was just an innocent bystander (who just happened to get caught on the battlefield) who was denied proper service in the Penthouse suite of a luxury hotel.

David Hicks pleaded guilty to terrorism charges. He was attempting to KILL Americans, and working with those who were attempting kill Americans when taken into custody.

Hicks should be counting his blessings given the fact that he could have ACTUALLY been shot while still in Afghanistan and nobody would've said "boo" about it.

For the dense-headed among us - the purpose of places like Gitmo are two fold. ONE - primarily to keep these thugs from performing any other action that will kill Americans in our fight against global Islamic fascists. And TWO - to drip every bit of information out of them to help prevent further attack.

This dunderhead deserved to be water-boarded, held a the end of an M-16, and be made every bit to believe that he was about to see Jesus face to face - because the actions he had carried out against us caused us to realize that he in fact was NOT an innocent bystander.

His plea also contained charges of being taken to a private location to be questioned for 16 hours at a time - oh heaven forbid.

The WEAKNESS that the press has for understanding the serious nature of what these animals have done - is putting the entire western world at risk.
