There is no question that Peyton's little brother stepped out of his shadow, and tonight became "Eli"! Certainly Archie Manning tonight can breathe a great sigh of pride and joy that his two sons, who he loves so much and passed on to them a love for the game that has inspired their lives, have won back to back Super Bowls AND MVP rings...
But tonight I defy you to show me a gutsier player than my friend number 85 David Tyree. After breaking his collar bone in the final game of pre-season, he missed many games in the first half of the season. And even after his return, while his contributions increased, they came slowly.
But in every playoff game Tyree contributed in big ways, and in tonight's biggest game of all - BIG PLAYS.
Tyree had no touchdowns on the year, but
gave the Giants their first go ahead lead with a do or die catch from Manning.
But NONE of the plays were any MORE important to the total outcome of the game than Tyree's gritty grab in the final 2:35.
Here's the video of it. What amazing sense of determination.
In what started out as the most questionable of season's, the most discouraging of circumstances, and the less than glorious honor of going 0 & 2 out of the gate, Tyree, like most of the Giants fought back with a tenacity that lead to the highest level of accomplishment.
But there is so much more to him than meets the eye. He is a committed father, a husband who is crazy about his lovely Leilah, and the founder of a ministry called "Next in Line" that more or less seeks to fulfill the purpose of helping kids make the best choices for their lives in spiritual, ethical, and moral terms.
David has lent his time for the past two years to Good Council Homes of Metro NYC. This ministry seeks to assist unwed mothers, in giving them protection, getting them educated, initiating them on how to live on a budget. It is an intensive program and the Tyrees have volunteered their time because they know the value of having someone of values there to be able to gain wise counsel from.
His determined play tonight, along with the way in which he orders and lives his life was a stark contrast to the likes of the quarterback for New England. (A boy who knocks up one actress, only to dump her mid-pregnancy for the Victoria Secrets Supermodel flavor of the month.)
I am proud to say - that David Tyree is man fully deserving of the Super Bowl MVP, and quite frankly without his miraculous catch late in the fourth quarter the Giants would have been the team who did not stop the undefeated seasoning from happening.
A bad night for Tom Brady is a wonderful thing for the rest of the universe. But to see Tyree work so hard to make his comeback complete - the night was made even sweeter!
CONGRATS #85 - you earned it!
