It seems to be a common message in the cushy-soft-pop-tart-oh-so-nice-seeker-emergent theological excrement that gets passed off as biblical thinking these days. "Love - but don't criticize."
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — The congregation of Southland Christian Church is being asked to send letters of love and support to troubled pop star Britney Spears, described by the pastor as having made "devastating life choices."
"Take a few minutes and write a note to Britney Spears," pastor John Weece said in a sermon and in a blog on the church website. "No preaching. No criticizing. Just love. As a church, let's love Britney the way Jesus loves her."
All the while girl's LIKE Britney are making these decisions precisely because NO ONE has ever told them no - in their entire life!
What is sad is that there is this idea - a damnedable misconception - that says, "if you really love someone you won't say anything critical to them." Yet this defies the real meaning of love - which is always wishing the true best for the other person.
I'm NOT advocating a mountain of hate-mail to Brit. That would violate the other half of the principal of "speaking the TRUTH in LOVE."
When you think about it Jesus didn't parse words. When he asked the woman at the well to give Him water to drink. He spoke to her about the truth of her moral failings - and also simultaneously offered her new life. TRUTH LOVE=Redemption!
Radical huh?
