That's 140 million shoppers spending more than $361 on average. Up from $302 on average from a year ago.
If you were to get a 19% raise, or your mortgage went up 19% - those would be pretty big deals... But not so to the media. All they've harped on is how much Wal-Mart disappointed.
Of course Wal-Mart had it coming. As I wrote a few weeks back decisions like this one will hurt a company that makes its buck on the backs of church-going Americans.
So for Wal-Mart's numbers to be down, and the increase in spending nationally to STILL be UP 19% - that's one smoking hot economy, at least this Christmas shopping season so far it is...
