 "I'm the man!"
"The primaries proved that Americans care deeply about the faith, values, character and leadership convictions of candidates as much as they do about the issues. While I know both men as friends and they recognize I will be frank, but fair, they also know I will be raising questions in these four areas beyond what political reporters typically ask. This includes pressing issues that are bridging divides in our nation, such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, climate and human rights."
Now - I'm not sure what Warren believes he is referring to in the "four areas beyond what political reporters typically ask" but I will tell you that the four things he's listed do not qualify. Primarily because these are four of the MOST OFTEN asked about "areas."
And is Rick Warren seriously going to discuss 'Global Warming' - despite the fact that 2008 has been a wrecking ball from the science community to the theory that Al Gore enriched himself off of? Seriously? More than 50,000 climatologists, meteorologists, and earth scientists - not to mention prominent, classroom isolated, academic science types ALL now refuting the key components to the overly hyped theory? So overly hyped now that the British public school system is not allowed to show the Gore film without disclaiming as entirely propaganda? What does this have to do with a "faith and values" conference?
Warren has also consistently NEVER spared the opportunity to allow Obama to preach his Gospel of Condoms, and to date he's also not disputed it.
But has Warren seen the PEPFAR legislation (emergency aid to Africa for aids relief) that the Congress these two Senators belong to have been working on in recent weeks? Does he know about the abortive language fight that ensued over the 'Global Fund' using U.S. dollars from our emergency HIV/AIDS aid to perform mandated abortions?
Will Warren allow groups like Compassion International to share the stage this year and speak about the work they are actually doing in the pandemic regions of Africa, bringing children HIV/AIDS cocktail meds AND the gospel of Jesus Christ - as opposed to the gospel of prophylactics?
What this conference really does is allow Rick Warren another notch in the belt of his "reach, influence, and power." Something he has become accustomed to with no measurable, tangible results to show for all the money spent in holding this annual soiree'.
Besides the obvious petty professional jealousy, what exactly is Kevin's problem with this guy?
Oh, right -- I forgot. He's not a "Born Again/Fundamentalist" so he isn't worthy to call himself a Christian or to preach. And no one who does not claim to be a BA/F is a true "Christian" in their eyes.
But, wait! Maybe there are others just like Warren? Evangelicals are jumping on the "Global Warming" bandwagon: http://christiansandclimate.org/

And those who do jump on the "Global Warming Farce"... are sadly misinformed.
I mean for crying out loud - in order to even to begin to accept the idea of GW - you have to first make the assumption that CO2 is a pollutant. Which it isn't for no more need of proof than the fact that world gets GREENER because of it.
See it really is NOT just a matter of opinion. There are some things that are absolute truth, and others that are absolute fallacy.
Everything is not a shade of gray, there is moral black and white.
I'm not saying everything is all the time. But some things just are! |

Absolutely NOTHING is gray in the eyes of the Born Agains. In their view, either you are or are not -- nothing in between. Which is why W has had no problem slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent Muslims. What does he care: according to his distorted view of Christianity, they are going to Hell anyway.
Remember: This is a man who had to have his Mommy call Billy Graham to ask if Jews would go to Heaven. http://www.slate.com/id/2099698/
Born Agains and their little Evangelical friends have hijacked our religion and given us the most amoral President in our nation's history.
What could be less Christian?

You on the left get so hot under the collar about the term born again. So what does this phrase then actually mean to you?
John 3:3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.
So do you beleive that you are Born Again, or do you think that this is taken out of context and if so, how you rewrite John 3:3, or is it just not relevant, and we should all just sing Kumbayah and embrace the Koran?
By the way , the problem that I have with Rick Warren is that he is a charlatan, who is becoming rich off his misquided beliefs, much like algore and his so called global warming. |

As for the history lesson - born agains are most likely the result of those from the fundamentalist movement of the late 19th century. If you study history, American denominations split as mainline Protestant churches openly and admittedly decided to break with traditional orthodoxy regarding historical Christianity on Christ's virgin birth, miracles in the Bible, a second coming, the inerrancy of the Bible, and other related topics. It was the fundamentalist movement that said these were essentials to the Christian faith, were historical orthodox positions, and left the churches to maintain the purity of the faith. They didn't hijack anything.
Actually, most of these churches were poor and penniless for nearly half a century. Meanwhile mainline Protestant churches, removing anything spiritual from Christianity continued to become irrelevant as they purported a method of living no different than other organizations around them, but with the burden of church attendence. As a result, these church denominations continue to see drops in attendence year over year.
As for W slaugtering hundreds of Muslims based on his warped Christianity, his belief system is much more like Rick Warren's Christianity than fundamentalists. Besides evangelical is a wide group that from one end to the other is quite diverse.
I have a few thoughts about Warren and do believe he is becoming more concerned with his clout than the spiritual and physical needs of those around him. but I will discuss that later. |

Tom, you have no right to question my faith. I don't owe you any explination or justification.
You and your kind have zero authority or responsibility to grill me or anyone else on matters of faith.
This is EXACTLY what is most laughable about the "BA/E" crowd: this idea that somehow you have found your path and now you have permission to demand that others follow you -- not God, but you.
Remove the plank from your eye before you worry about the fleck of sawdust in mine. |
|
Kevin, Does Rick Warren claim to be born again? I agree that the 4 areas he lists are not the ones we evangelicals really focus on. I still don't get why Warren thinks he should associate with those who are militant towards true Christianity. |
|
He simply asked you to define what it means to be a Christian?
A question is not a grilling. And it apparently is far too intimidating question for you to answer. This alone must be disconcerting to you surely.
See - as I said in the response above. There are many areas in life that are gray. Some are not. The sun - for example will "rise" as it has every day since it was spoken into existence. As the earth will rotate, and your body will continue to breath in thousands of times.
It's not a matter of opinion as to whether the earth will rotate... it is!
Likewise - Christianity has a definition - the fact that you have such a thin skin and defensive about a simple question from Tom tells everyone reading that it is unlikely that you even have a specific definition for yourself... |

Don't argue with Born Agains. It's like feeding a monster. They live for this stuff. This is their chance to save you, to change you. My family has been infected with quite a few of these folks over the years. You must ignore them and refuse any discussion on matters of faith. |

You say "Don't argue with Born Agains. It's like feeding a monster. They live for this stuff. This is their chance to save you, to change you. My family has been infected with quite a few of these folks over the years. You must ignore them and refuse any discussion on matters of faith."
Why then, My Pet Goat, do you keep posting on this blog? |
|
How typical. You think you'll lose an "argument" (which its not) so you just give up the discussion all together?
It was YOU and EXPAT that came to my blog disparaging "born agains" and thusly "born agains" are not allowed to even question your premise? Nothing Tom said was "monsterish" - even though you and PAT had disparaged him.
It seems to me that when you do not know the answer you simply run away. But that's not dialogue...
What gives? I thought you were this "intellectually curios" type.
I guess I was wrong... |
|
Sorry, folks. Away from the computer for a few days.
Too bad if my answer seemed defensive, but that's the answer: I own NO ONE an explanation of my faith. That you even have the audacity to ask speaks volumes about yours.
My faith is between me and my maker. You are cordially uninvited into the discussion.

Saying “born again Christian” is a redundant statement. If a person is not born again of the Holy Spirit they are not a Christian as defined by Jesus Christ. It is very unfortunate that so many mainline Protestant faiths have drummed down the truth of Christ. Jesus had a very scary phrase for such people in Matthew 7:21-23
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
Jesus is very plainly saying here: Don’t come to me on Judgment Day and say “I went to church every Sunday, I served punch at the coffee hour, I serviced on the board, I cut the grass at the church”, He is saying, “you did not believe in me in your heart (Romans 10:10) therefore depart from me”. You lived your life away from me, live it forever away from me.
Yes, many so-called Christians give a bad name to the faith, but Jude 4 answers that as well.
This is my first time on this blog and I could not resist responding to such an obivious truth.
