"C'mon Kev... show Huck a lil love..."

Regular reader and fellow MuscleHead Jason (in responding to my noting the Trust-Huck pro-Huckabee push polling) takes me to task:

C'mon Kevin... I've read your blog for a long time, and thoroughly enjoyed your book. I've never known you to accuse people of being part of a conspiracy with absolutely no evidence whatsoever. Who knows if it was Huckabee, another Republican candidate, or someone else altogether. I've always known you to be honest and straight forward, and attacking credible Republican candidates for these sorts of things is counter-productive.

Jason, in all fairness you're right I do NOT like to accuse people of conspiracy. Although I have oft imagined what some could be envisioned as and I have publicly speculated about Huck's alignment and what botheringly to me seems to be now covering for Rudy that does, does, does, concern me.

Let me be as transparent as possible. I have not publicly announced who I am pulling for. I have not released an endorsement in the GOP primary. The fundamental reason I have NOT done so is because I want to be as critical as possible until I have as much clarity as I can obtain on who the purest conservative is with a legitimate shot at winning.

My basic mentality is "Anyone but Rudy." There is fundamentally little difference in Rudy's position on a number of issues with Hillary.

They both pose as hawks...
They are both pro-abortion...
They are both pro-gay marriage...
They both seek to limit guns...
They both would see the increase of illegal aliens in the United States as a positive thing...
They both would continue the practice of sanctuary cities...
They both have questionable judgement as has been evidenced in a variety of choices they have made... both personally and publicly.

What is the fundamental difference in screening the women you will allow your spouse to bed, and bedding someone in the Hamptons who is not your spouse - while still married to someone else?

What is the fundamental difference in character between using the IRS to audit your political enemies - and using the police and extremely questionable methods of billing to provide security for a person the state bears no responsibility for - your shag choice of the week?

Rudy is a non-starter for conservatives period. And the possibility that he would work covertly to bring down the most well funded conservative counterpart still fascinates me.

I like Huck. I introduced him at CPAC. I've had him on my show and will have him again shortly. His lack of organization to ultimately beat a Giuliani candidacy from Florida to Michigan to Super Tuesday has me extremely concerned. The better he polls in the later states the more I begin to warm to him.

But it has been Huck's own shading of the story that has also caused me concern. He has been very complimentary of Rudy - and refused to answer a question on This Week on Sunday that last summer he had no problem answering. And the only reason that can come to my mind is that a deal has been made.

Dollar for dollar - I want the conservative that will deprive Rudy the nomination - PERIOD! Even with his impressive surge - the lack of Huck's ground game causes me to think that his short term popularity might be serving the enemies of true conservatism more than we conservatives ourselves.

And on that I am confused and frustrated and sorely out of sorts with the entire process.

If Huck would denounce Rudy - then he would put these conspiracy ideas of a VP slot to bed. But he has yet to do so - and I know because I'm watching closer than anyone.

Convince me that Huck can beat Rudy. Show me how he can in Florida, Michigan, and Super Tuesday where the BIG MONEY pays HUGE PRICES for BIG TELEVISION in New York/New Jersey/California - then you might convince me to take the step and get on the Huck-Wagon.

Right now my ONLY focus is "ANYONE BUT RUDY" and right now at present - with their positions nearly identical. Both good on taxes - but not perfect. Both questionable on immigration - but would likely pull their heads out of the sand and get it together. Both ROCK SOLID on abortion, judges, marriage. Both FIRMLY committed family men. To me the trade off on going Romney vs. Huck, or Huckabee vs. Mitt - is seeming very very small.

Therefore I have to constantly be thinking two to three steps ahead of the game. And right now Huck has NO game after South Carolina.

Show me how he takes it to extra innings - then we can talk...

Until then - my angst continues.

conspiracy
If there's a conspiracy, it is Huck in cahoots with Giuliani. If Huck can take Iowa away from Romney, then Giuliani is strengthened, because everyone knows Huck will never win it nationwide.

Romney remains the only candidate who is honest.

HUNTER FOR AMERICA

Republican voters still get to decide who their nominee will be. Money only buys elections when people act like sheep. If 80% of Republicans are indeed seeking a conservative, we can nominate one. We can nominate Duncan Hunter by voting in the primaries. The money players won't like it and are trying to convince us only Rudy McRomneyson can win. Hogwash. 49% of people will never vote for Hillary. Only 60% voted last time and turnout was the difference. My belief is Rudy would push turnout down. There might even be a third party, splitting the vote. Give Americans a chance to vote for a candidate who WILL secure the border and watch what happens to turnout. Americans want their government to fulfill it's most basic responsibility.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

Show me the money
Show me the 20 million Huck is going to need to win the first 6 primaries. Show me the 40 million he is going to need to go all of the way to the convention.

Romney has the money and the organization to grind Rudy into the ground. Rudy has fallen into the teens in a 5 way race in the national polls. Rudy has NY NJ and much of the NE so he is collapsing else where.

Huck is the flavor of the week. He can run well in IA because he has run non stop there for months with no opposition. He is not doing that well in SC (so far). He will split the South in the long run with Fred. Romney and Rudy will win some or all of the South since Fred and Huck will divide the hard core Southern vote.

Romney or Huck win IA. Romney wins NH. Romney should win MI. SC is a cat fight but it is not Huck. The best GOTV will win (probably Romney). Huck will not win FL and it is proportional. Romney will win his share of Congressional districts. Ditto with CA.

How much momentum does Huck have after IA? Pat Robertson cratered after running second in IA.

Huck is still working with Rudy. Rudy will make it look good and take a swipe that does no damage from time to time but Rudy is going to choose a Southern Evangelical for VP. He has to balance geographically, politically and theologically. Huck is a logical choice unless he is used by Rudy and then replaced by Rick Perry.

NYC Huckabee Grassroots Team
Not to worry, Kevin. In addition to his nationwide surge in all of the new polls, Governor Huckabee actually does have a ground game all across America, too. You just don't know it because it can't be measured in the usual ways that, well, don't seem to be working for the other candidates this year. Just to make you feel better about the only authentic choice, you're cordially invited to the next NYC Huckabee Grassroots Team meeting this coming Friday in Midtown Manhattan. Blessings to you!

emailed my pledges to Hunter
will probably do the same to Thompson.

I'd be glad to consider JulieAnnie or Mitty, or Huckafinn, but I don't think they'll sign the Pledges--if they do fine and dandy. First one gets my vote.

VAPAT. Got a big ugly yellow site advisory on Hunter's site from McAfee. Somebody better fix that. If I get an uptick in SPAM Hunter won't get my vote regardless.

Hand wringing.
It is cosmic justice and a great joy to watch all these "Values Voters" have to eat such a liberal serving of crow.

Of course, you people will vote for the GOP nominee, regardless of who he turns out to be. And that means you'll even vote for Rudy in a dress -- and then spend the next four years justifying it.

The Lord does indeed work in mysterious ways!

Why do you think Giuliani can win?
Just curious, but why do you think Giuliani can beat Clinton? Several of the other Republicans could get more votes in the general election than Giuliani could. If the Republican candidate comes across as more expensive than whoever the Democrats nominate, the Democrat will win. Sorry to bust your bubble but the 'tax & spend' policy of Democrats was one cause of voters defecting to Republicans. What would be the advantage of Giuliani over Clinton? Both would be expensive for Presidents & I'm not sure either could find a way to end the Iraq war. The country needs to get a better President.

Same Jason as Yesterday
Kevin, I appreciate your honesty and transparency on the matter. That was a very deep post, and I think got your point across much more clearly and fairly than yesterday. I'm like you... on the anybody but Rudy wagon, but torn between the conservatives. I write a blog with a very good friend of mine (BoldColorConservative.com), and we appear on a local talk radio (Mac's World) here in Des Moines, Iowa every 3 or 4 weeks to discuss the race and many other political issues, and we have not endorsed a candidate either. I completely understand your dilemma. Thank you for your clarification, though. I continue to read your blog on a daily basis (and listen to available soundbites from your radio program), and I look forward to more of your insights on the race. -Jason

Kein angst, Kevin!
You're angst will magically disappear when you step into the voting booth and pull the lever for the GOP candidate, who ever it might turn out to be.

You won't be happy about it, and you won't really vote FOR the Republican. But you certainly will vote against the Democrat.

Rudy = Hillary is garbage
The idea that Rudy has similar positions to Hillary in the laundry list mentioned above is total garbage and shows intellectual laziness and a bias based on preconceived preferences.

Mike, you are thinking as illogically as the liberals. You can do better!
