Having just spent some considerable face time with decent, conservative, strong values oriented voters this weekend. I can say with certainty, "Giuliani will doom himself with this kind of talk."
Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York.
"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California.

All the top three candidates are on the open borders express. If the Republicans think they can win by telling Americans they can't control the border and amnesty is the answer to illegal aliens (remember 1986?) they will lose. Not voting for Democrat-lite. The destination is the same, the only difference is the speed we get there. |

Rudy could win in the general election.
But, thanks to these so-called "....decent, conservative, strong values oriented voters..." he'll never get the nomination. |

Rudy says he understands the second ammendment and that his gun control policy will not affect hunters. Will he please tell me what hunting has to do with the second ammendment? Hunting is never mentioned in the second ammendment. Rudy, read the second ammendment and then tell me if your gun control policies will infringe the rights of the people to keep and bear arms?

Nothing in Guiliani's record indicates he will restrict Americans' firearm rights. There is a world of difference in the role played by guns in rural areas (where they are the only protection a homeowner may have against a nighttime assailant) and in NYC (where many buildings have multiple layers of security and the police are ominpresent). Simply put, a far greater proportion of guns are put to illegal use in NYC than in the rest of the USA.
You may still disagree with Guiliani's mayoral policy. But to infer his policies as president from his record as mayor on firearms is like saying he will impose the same speed limit that exists on Fifth Avenue on rural interstates. It will never happen, and Guiliani has no such desire. |

He has already stated that gun control in NYC reduced crime, which is an outright lie. If gun control worked, NYC, WDC, Chicago and San Fran would be the safest places in the US. The safest place to be is in any state that has 'shall issue' permits to carry concealed. FBI stats prove this. The 'Right of the people' in the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 9th are the same group of people. Just part of 'shall not be infringed' don't these people understand? |

The last sentence should have read "Just WHAT part of 'shall not be infringed' don't these people understand? |

I'm with olgezzer... Mr. Guiliani's comments, as shared by the press, indicate he clearly does not understand the Second Amendment. Nor does he understand what the right to bear arms means. Neither does he understand that gun control has not and will not work simply because gun control only controls law abiding citizens.
I wish I could see the entire text and not snippets chosed by the media. Anyone know where it is posted, if it is?
Over time, I guess we will see where Mr. G stands as we hear more from him. And Lydia, I don't agree it is a non-issue. Look at the tough time we're having with Mayor Bloomberg's ignorance.

Rudy is confused in the same way that Democrats are confused about the 2nd Amendment. They intentionally misrepresent it as a right for hunters to hunt. My question is this, if it is the right for people to hunt, which amendment is the one that says we have the right to farm? The United States was an agricultural economy for at least the first 100 years of existence, and there isn't an amendment that protects the right to farm? (Sarcasm off)
The second amendment is the affirmation of the natural right to self-defense, a right that is given by our creator. It is an individual right, just as the first amendment right to freedom of speech/assembly/religion. Those who claim it is about hunting are using a rhetorical method to attempt to control what weapons are available. If it is about hunting, then it opens the door to regulating what weapons are needed for hunters ("you don't need a compact pistol, an AR-15, a pistol-grip shotgun, etc.). To gun controllers, every gun is either too big, too small or too medium.
It is funny how some people equate those who use firearms as weak (or unable to perform sexually), but those who must rely on better men than themselves are somehow strong and virile. |
