Someone please explain to me how a woman who got a gig as a judge of a singing contest/talent show did so - given the fact that the bulk of her recording career encapsulated songs at which she sang at most 5 total notes?
UPDATE: See comments below...
All due respect, Kevin, but Paula Abdul was a great entertainer! Sang really well, a beyond-terrific dancer; always stayed modest and clean as far as I know. Most dance/techno/house tunes since the 80s are like the ones she sang, she can't help that.
Give her her due - that was a great entertaining video and a cool dance tune.

Once you can see, your question will be answered. |

I'm not trying to be argumentative. And I'm certainly NOT arguing that Paula wasn't a successful ENTERTAINER. She succeeded as a dancer for the Lakers long before her "singing" career.
But name one song Paula has had as a hit - that had any kind of real melody to it...
Her new one posted above is literally five notes in span.
YET - she gives "advice" on how these kids should SING?
I can't believe that I'm the only one who's ever asked this question in earnest... |

dude, there is 400+ channels on TV AND there is nothing to watch! :) I agree about Paula's maybe not being the "perfect" judge of talent. But get then again, I don't embarrasse in front of my 10 yr old son when a vid of hers appears on my tv, she doesn't look or act like a streetgirl, she can dance and sing very well for this guy! It's not as if Ozzie were hosting a Mr Manners show.... relax. |

Maybe there weren't more than five notes in that song. What I'd like to know is how Simon managed to finagle his way into judging a talent contest when his only talent seems to be doing a poor imitation of Don Rickles. |

This is a girl who would commonly be known in the entertainment field as a "triple-threat" (Singer/Dancer/Actress). I know, because, in my brief time in that area of personal endeavor, I was one.
The fact that this lady has gifts she has vigorously pursued -spanning the test of time-with -seeming grace, and decency, seems to be a task that was done to her fans, and her own, advantage.
I have never been a very big fan of hers. But talent can be subjective and fleeting too. Depending on who is making the power moves, the choices, and the determinations of flavors behind the scene.
There are far worse folks who are her contemporaries, when it comes to dancing and singing.
Madonna, mainly a savvy business gal, is one example, who (shamefully) made her millions to the public's undoing.
Liked her even less..
There is talent..there is moxy..And then there are people determined on being mouthy and hogging the scene.
Many female "entertainers' have chucked shame and dropped their (amongst others) scruples in recent years..
Those are the ones who should be held up as true examples of dissappointent in the Arts hall of shame!
