"...faith is off limits?"

Hugh will never criticize Carl Cameron's cheap shot religion question of Huck, because Hugh's a homer whose candidate might name him as Press Secretary if he wins. But Huck drew the largest applause of the night for pointing out the obvious.

"Faith is off limits except when it comes to probing Huckabee about HIS religion."

In short a question that was made to be a "gotcha moment" on the issue of Biblical marital submission, ended up endearing Huckabee even more to Evangelical WOMEN who were "supposed" to be offended at the idea...

I usually like Carl, but the question WAS a cheap shot - and more or less irrelevant to the policy debate that tonight was supposed to be...

cheap shot indeed but answer is funny.
Let me say first and foremost that it was totally a cheap shot. That question should never had been asked.

At the risk of inducing eye rolling I will say that I am sure that members of the mormon church would disagree with Gov. Huckabee that faith is off limits except when probing him about his. Using a few subtle remarks about an opponent's faith and allowing many anti Mormon comments to continue on his official blog among other things give the feeling that he has taken advantage of some Christians' feelings about faith. He has also felt free to label himself a christian leader and to say faith defines him in the context of his campaign. Clearly, faith is not off limits, and Gov. Huckabee has benefitted from talking about his.

All that being said, it was still a cheap shot and completely inappropriate.

Cheap Shot but ...
No doubt it was a cheap shot. No one should be asked those kinds of questions. However, Huckabee answered the question very well and the question actually saved him. Why you ask, because the topic was foreign policy and then changed to that lame question. So - Huckbee got a pass on his weakest area - Foreign Policy - which would have been very bad for Gov. Huckabee. So a question that should have been to his weakest area was turned to his greatest strength. Pretty good luck.

Carl
I serious think Carl Cameron really admires Huckabee. He know if he asks a cheap shot about religion he know Huckabee will knock it out of the park. It will make great soundbites and a great show; much like the Youtube debate with Anderson clarifying what would Jesus do about the death penality to Huckabee.

This response will remind many Christians on why they are voting for Huckabee.

Hugh Hewitt's man crush on Mitt Romney
Hugh Hewitt better stick to his day job, because Romney is not going to be President, Mike Huckabee has a much better shot. Don't you think once Fred drops out, his supporters will switch over to the Huck campaign?

Paul that was cruel! When you tell Hugh the truth you need to sugar coat it.
a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.

RE: Fred, the ONLY "true conservative":

I hate to make anybody mad, (except the garrulous fat college drop out.(rush dimbulb) but, I really think Fred has already defacto dropped out-he just isnt aware of it consciously.

He skipped NH and Michigan. Does he really think he can win SC after being AWOL on the Hustings for 3-4 weeks after coming in third in Iowa?

And this after having been ranked second to slick mitt nationally way back before he announced..and now having witnessed his rankings dip to slightly above the prime rate,
his momentum is a bullet train to anonymity, and retirement.

Fred needs to buy a fishing rod, some flies, and a john boat.

Or maybe a Destin condo, a custom made shufflebard stick, a Hawaian Shirt, and a
pair of size 15 flip flops.

The Rudy Strategy
As it was coined at the outset by the MSM while they told us what a brillant tactic!!

Fred using the same strategy of skipping Iowa & NH to focus the conservative base voters of the South was not???
Seems to me it makes more sense for Fred than Rudy...
Problem is, the media has already informed everyone who they can take seriously and who should be put out of mind.

Cheap shot, and a good answer from Huckabee.

Now for a few things:

1) Paul, most Romney people--at least here at Townhall--are Fred guys too. Expect Huckabee to HuckaSINK when and if Mitt drops out, and all his folks go to Fred.

2) To: Kevin McCullough. How do you know that Hugh is going to be Romney's PS? You don't. You just like the cheapest cheap shots. Secondly, how do we know that Huckabee hasn't offered you a Press Secretary position in HIS cabinet?
poyman writes: Friday, January, 11, 2008 1:43 AM
Cheap Shot? Give me a break....
Carl has been following Huck around like a lost puppy this entire campaign.... My friends have noticed it so much that they have asked me if Huck has pictures of Carl with a German Shepherd...

Personally, I think that Carl is about as good of reporter as Huck is a Candidate...

I guarantee you this question and answer were rehersed and the delivery was apparently pleasing to the Huck Fans.... But for the Real Republican Christians, we are no longer amused by either the "show" or the Huckster himself... Heneeds to take his act to the Demos.... they will like his left leaning philosophies better.

Hector Berlioz, I hope Hugh has been
promised something if Mitt wins the nomination. His love affair with Mitt has made him loose a lot of credibility and objectivity so I hope for goodness sake he was promised something. It would be insane if Hugh was doing this only for his admiration of Mitt's Money.

So Huckabee has another good
debate. Not too many of the other guys have racked up as many good moments/ debates.

Huckabee connects with people.
A great communicator.
Good ideas - The Fair Tax
(took the no new tax pledge)
9 point immigration plan
Strong 2nd amendment man.
Actual NRA endorsement.
Always anti-abortion
Will select the right Supreme Court Judges.
Will build up our military.
Wants to win war in Iraq and defeat terrorists.

Special interest groups and big business don't own/ control Huckabee.

Just a few reasons... Go Huckabee

nyrock writes: Friday, January, 11, 2008 3:02 AM
The christofascism
of Huckabee is more than relevant. he has made his religion an issue in this campaign and he has declared how his bigotry will effect his policy decisions. So the question was more than appropriate, it was crucial.
Goldwater's girl writes: Friday, January, 11, 2008 8:44 AM
Credibility?
Like most of Fox "News," Carl Cameron has zero credibility.

While pretending to report on Bush's 2004 campaign, Mrs. Carl Cameron was on the reelection committe's payroll.

No wonder big DICK Cheney keeps all the TVs on Fox.

So much for fair and balanced.

huckabee is a good communicator but he is a worse version of bush on spending which no coservative is happy about. he is liberal and he as much as admitted it when he said he raised "hope" in ak. it is funny his whole defense of raising taxes: deny, deny, deny, then blame it on a court order, then take credit or raising "hope". this guy is all over the map. thompson won the debate and killed huckabee on his record and ignorance of foreign policy. we will see what happens in sc and mi. we will no alot more about huckabee then.

liberals are scared to death of fred and want him defeated. liberals love huckabee because he is just slightly more conservative than the dems.

only a fool would count fred out. obama & McCain were also dead if you look at the polls a month ago.

Hugh - can him from this website and lets truly kick this idiot onto the curb..if you like you could do it American X style...

Religion is only an issue for Huckabee..
... because he is the only one who has made it THE defining issue of his campaign.
