Some people can't make up their mind. They say that Christmas is just a generic holiday of happiness that involves family feasts, colored lights, and brightly wrapped presents. Yet, despite the PR campaign to make Santa Claus the poster child of Christmas, the magnitude of the day continues to prevail. Christmas is the time when Jesus decided to give up his rights in order to live with humanity which is a message some people try to veil with the banner of political correctness.

An example?

Students and faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University can forget about hauling out the holly because FGCU "has banned all holiday decorations from common spaces on campus."

"Junior Marilyn Lerner, a 20-year-old resort and hospitality management major from California, said she'll miss seeing Christmas trees in the Student Union. 'I think they're pretty," said Lerner, who is Jewish. "It's just a Christmas tree. I don't mind.'"

If it is "just a Christmas tree" and Christmas is merely a "commercialized holiday" why all the fuss?

No nice way to say it...
But, here goes: the far right has cuddled up to the Jews and the pro-Israel lobby for years. This is just one more result. It has come back to hurt them and hurt us all.

The Jews have elevated a meaningless, casual holiday (Hanukkah) to the same level as the birth of the Son of God. And we Christians have stood by and allowed it to happen, for fear of being labeled anti-semitic.

The fault, dear Ms. Ammen, lies with the Jews in this country and the Christians who have pandered to them.

Merry Christmas! Christ is, indeed, the divine Son of God.

American Pettiness
People get all upset about some Christmas decorations. Then another group of people get all upset because those other guys don't like Christmas decorations. Such pettiness.

Some people are more upset about Christmas decorations than they are about a school in Haiti collapsing on hundreds of children.

It's About the Birth of Christ
Some people are still interested in observing and even celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I realize that some are not interested in that, which is fine. But, they have no business saying that it's wrong to put a Christmas tree in a room. A Christmas tree is a Christian symbol...not a mere decoration. For years people in this country celebrated Christmas without any problem. Now that our nation is more diversified then suddenly those of us who admit to being U.S. citizens and Christian should shut up and celebrate privately. What's next? Will the sight of a church building be offensive to some group? Will they insist we tear it down because it's a reminder that there are some Christians left in society? I hope that's a bit far-fetched, but I never thought I'd see the day in the USA when putting up Christmas decorations, and saying 'Merry Christmas' would be politically incorrect. If I move to another country who am I to tell them that I'm offended by their behavior, their celebrations, their beliefs???? They would rightly tell me to mind my own business, and if I don't like it to ignore it. Well, that's my opinion for what it's worth.
