Uh... NO!

Actually Billy Boy we merely want equal civil rights to children who may become women and doctors. See in America more than 70% of the population believes that the killing of children is a criminal act. The fact that you refuse to recognize it - and worse yet make all kinds of false assertions about 'the desire to jail women' merely proves you're willingness to further the talking points of the pro-death industry.

Mr. McCullough
You are correct in stating that we want equal civil rights for children. However, the left-wing is quite correct to raise the point of what action you take in the event those rights of unborn children are violated. We would jail someone who broke into your home and killed your children, if not execute them. If we believe fetuses are human beings, just like us, then the same treatment ought to apply if we believe that the morally innocent share equal rights, and that those rights can be made forfeit only by one's actions.

For the doctors performing abortions, if we are to believe that unborn children are persons equal to that of you or me, then the only punishment which fits the crime is the death penalty. As for the mothers, criminal negligence, acting as accessory to murder, and aiding & abetting are all possible claims to bring against mothers who would seek out an abortionist in the same manner someone else would seek out an assassin. The mothers may not commit the act of murder themselves, but nevertheless there does exist some moral culpability.

Stoic - you are making good points...
But you sir are not (I suppose) pro-life. It is easy for you to accuse some nebulous boogie-man pro-lifer of wanting to "kill" women and doctors... (when I can not find even one pro-life piece of literature that encourages such...)

All the while IGNORING the rights of a child who could survive outside the womb as early as five months of development.

You sir deny reality, while accusing others of promoting an agenda that I've never heard ONE pro-life demonstrator - and I've worked with millions of them articulate.

Talk about bait and switch - Billy Jeff would be proud of you!

I think you have mischaracterized my position. I tend to make some of the most fervent "pro-life" postings on Townhall (while I call myself pro-life, I don't think the moniker fits, rather I am anti-abortion since I believe abortion deliberately takes a human life without just cause). I think that science clearly demonstrates that an abortion after 40 days into a pregnancy is murder, since at that point the unborn child exhibits brainwaves, and if we are to believe in individual rights, those rights must be granted at the point an individual can be confirmed to exist. Brainwaves are proof of the existence of a singluar consciousness. Prior to 40 days in a pregnancy, I think it is still *wise* for us to ban abortion (I cannot say morally necessary since we can't detect brainwaves before 40 days -- but that doesn't mean they aren't there) since I would much rather err on the side of caution. It's far better to not destroy a "blob of tissue" instead of destroying a living, innocent child. I simply lack scientific evidence prior to 40 days.

I don't accuse others of promoting an agenda, because the agenda of steadfastly upholding human rights and the need to mete out justice for violations of those rights I believe to be tantamount to establishing a civilized society. That agenda is my own.
Stoic Patriot writes: Monday, February, 18, 2008 7:31 PM
Yeesh, bad English
Paramount, not tantamount.

The left-wing has one point that the pro-life movement needs to answer: fine, you want to stop abortion and stop abortionists from slaughtering children. If they decide to do so anyway in defiance of the laws you pass and what is morally right, what is your response?

"Put your money where your mouth is," as the old saying goes. Someone who calls for upholding rights but is incapable of conceiving of a moral response to the violation of those rights has a weak position because there is no accepted method of force to back up those rights, and so evil may triumph while good men do nothing. Such atrocities are unacceptable, period.

Is this the best he's got?
Rather than discuss the actual issues involved with abortion, Clinton mis-states the pro-life position, and conjures the spectre of millions of women and doctors in prison.

Abortion is the most divisive and powerful issue of our time, but when confronted on it Clinton spouts a "fairy-tale" of his own.

Yes we want to criminalize abortion, and jail the doctors for long periods of time, but the idea of the law is that it will be a powerful deterrent against abortion, both from the fear of incarceration and the denunciation of the act itself.

When considering penalties, we consider the state of mind of the perpetrator. So we would not give the full first-degree murder penalty to frightened and confused women.
cleverness_of_me writes: Monday, February, 18, 2008 9:52 PM
Not the salient issue
What penalties we agree on for "procuring a miscarraige" (as it was called under the Common Law) is secondary to the real question, which is "does abortion kill innocents?".

By the way, many pro-lifers, such as myself, oppose the death penalty.

There's a debate there about whether abortion is wrong. I contend that if abortion is NOT wrong, then it also is not wrong to hack up newborn infants with big butcher knives. I keep being told by certain individuals that my argument doesn't prove itself. Maybe they need to hear some logic from others along the same line.
davpatt3 writes: Monday, February, 18, 2008 10:37 PM
Simple to me
The divisiveness of the abortion issue is the same source of divisiveness for the death penalty. These issues only elevate the rhetoric because the consequences are more acute. When wrangling the tougher issues of human existence the folks on the side of situational/subjective ethics are clearly exposed against the fear God and believe His Word crowd. Those that refuse to have God rule over them will justify their rebellion in any number of creative and desperate ways. Bill Clinton is an expert at this and he is not alone by any stretch. These folks are goin' down one way or another. God's people are repenting for our personal and national sin and God is faithful to prove Himself strong in our behalf. He will heal our land. Therein lies the only true hope for America.

This principle is self evident
The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is the first and most fundamental of all rights.

And to have Clinton speaking out against that right should be the first clue to true Americans how bankrupt of principle the left is.

So - they seek to unpopularize the notion politically by asking, "Well, how MEAN do you want to be - you nasty women haters"?

Americans, do you see how leftist demagogues are ripping your Constitution out by the roots? How many BLACK BABIES are murdered each year, and America's FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT is in support of each and every death.

Bill, here's a proposal for you
Since you think that jail time would be cruel and unusual punishment, I propose a more humane approach. Let's create an abortion offender website. No jail time - let's just put their names in a national database. And let's see how popular abortion really is. Let's get some transparency on the issue. You like transparency don't you? Let's publish the names of women receiving abortions with public funding. We need to know how our government money is being spent, don't we? Are you against taxpayers knowing who are the recipients of taxpayer largesse?

And since we are interested in the black community, let's talk about the percentage of black babies being aborted versus the general population. Why are almost half of all abortions in America done to black babies, when blacks are only twelve percent of the population? Why are we so involved in decreasing the black population?

Actually, crackpot
You wish to forget that self-ownership is absolute. How about remembering that, crackpot? How about remembering that there's absolutely no such thing as the right to be a parasite, and that there's no such thing as the right to exist within the confines of another being. How about you remember those, crackpot?

Explain exactly what you're position is
Actually Billy Boy we merely want equal civil rights to children who may become women and doctors.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

How is this not a "talking point"? There are a lot of positions on abortion and it's silly to say that is comes down to whether you're Pro-Life ("No Abortion; Contraception or any form of Safe Sex EVER.") or Pro-Choice ("Abortions all day; at any time; for any reason.") Examples: Would you be for any type of contraception? Would abortion in the 1st trimester be considered murder? Is an abortion from a pregnancy resulting from rape murder? Incest? If the mother was 13? A combination of any of the above? I'm sure more than 70% of all Americans wouldn't say "yes" to all of these or Republicans wouldn't have had such a tough time getting stricter abortion laws through. So be specific on what you want so people can have a serious debate on this issue.
