There is no one reading this that doesn't understand the profound respect I have for Dr. James Dobson and the AMAZING career he has maintained in fighting the fight for all that is GOOD.
Many of my colleagues in the blogosphere believe that Dobson is defacto endorsing a Hillary candidacy in the general (and at the very minimum a Romney candidacy defacto in the primary.)
One other thought that struck my mind was that this is more bluster than bluff. Could this be the scenario by which Dobson is sending the message to get behind one of the pro-life Republicans? In other words - defeat Rudy in the primary and use this threat to help garner support?
Merely asking the questions...
There is no "value voter" candidate in the current GOP field.
So the options are limited:
(1) do Dobson and his followers sit on their hands and hold back their money and pray for divine intervention at election time?
(2) Do they put pride first and nominate a third-party candidate, thus guaranteeing the Democrats win?
(3) Or, do they swallow their pride, acknowledge that there are no "Born Again Evangelicals" who can possibly win and reluctantly support the GOP nominee, even though he is not (in their eyes) their moral equivalent?
Frankly, I admire Rudy for not kissing up to these folks. |

Is Dobson "sending the message to get behind one of the pro-life Republicans? In other words - defeat Rudy in the primary and use this threat to help garner support?" But Kevin, if that's true why not just officially endorse one! If Dobson has a problem with Fred Thompson just because he doesn't go to church every Sunday, well then I guess he has a problem with most Americans too. While most of us believe in God and have Faith, we all don't go to church every Sunday. |
