It's a cold harsh day when you wake up and find yourself agreeing with creepy father/manager Joe Simpson. But as a musician, and an observer of pop culture and music - he was dead on the money when this weekend he said:
The Lovely Bride and I have had this debate/discussion regularly. The thing I hate about most new "songs" is how little actual MUSIC is involved in making them. During American Idol - I think it was Dolly Parton theme night - I remarked, "You know country music is like the only place where 'song' writing still includes musical things like, melody, harmony, interesting chord structure etc..."
We've gotten so dulled to the three note, half spoken, over produced hip-hop 6 minute mix, in which the artist must say their name no less than 12 times during the first 23 seconds of the piece - that we've forgotten what music actually sounds like...
"Hey, hey, hey, hhoh, oh, hup, yo.... KMC in da house!"
Most people think Jessica has largely been over- manipulated by her father, and that he's probably single handedly ruined both her career and even her marriage, and possibly her chance at happiness in both those ventures in the future. But he got one right today... and I guess its only fair to say so.
