The Lovely Bride vs. KMC

Quite normally in years past the Lovely Bride and I have BOTH often pulled for the same American Idol as they wove their way through the weeks of competition.

This year's class of contestants is so very good from a talent perspective that we are finding ourselves increasingly at odds over who we are pulling for.

I will tell you - it's difficult not to love the Lovely Bride's choice - Brook White, because on overall passion, spirit, enthusiasm, and personality it is doubtful there has been a more likable person on the show in its history.

But is she the best singer? Is she even the best musician?

In terms of musicianship - I think that David Cook can go toe to toe with her. In terms of raw vocal passion - Michael Johns is ever bit the passionate performer she is. In terms of vocal range Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson both have her beat.

But that darn grin is so hard not to pull for.

Last night I think we saw Remiele give her swan song. DialIdol has the science of the busy signal and they seem to indicate the same thing.

I voted for the third week in a row for Syesha. I didn't even really like her in the early weeks!

BUT...

She's proven she has the biggest voice in the competition. She's got the biggest range, broadest appeal, and she too has a fun personality.

Brooke may be the all-American girl next door, but Syesha IS the best singer left in the contest... and this IS a singing competition...

Isn't it?

It is obvious...
...that Kevin cannot hide his disdain for a mormon contestant. Not only does he kiss Baldwin's b***, he just can't overcome his internal bias....

However, I agree that Brook is not the best idol.

Going to be a guy this time.........
One of the David's will probably win this one with an outside shot to Michael. I'm going with David Cook.

I didn't even KNOW Brook's religious affiliation till you revealed it - if you're even right...

Geez!

Cause any suicides today, Kev?
Hey Kev - it's great to see you are so caught up with American Idol. Thank GOD we have people like you looking out for all that is important. When your not mocking the deaths of people pet dogs (weirdo)

Good thing they voted off that qeeeur kid, eh? lord knows you had nothing but disdain for him.

Just keep this in mind as you have the misfortune of looking at that reflection in the mirror every day:

"I, Kevin McCullough, have helped cause the deaths of countless teenagers"

sorry, but there is no
way that Syesha is the best singer in the show. Her song paled in comparison to the Whitney version (to borrow Simon's phrase). My top 5 are David, David, Michael, Brooke, and Carly.

As we have seen time and time again on Idol, there are many other factors other than pure talent. Attitude/personality has gotten a few contestents kicked off. The show is about finding a star - which encompases more than just vocals. Demographics and style also play a big factor. As things narrow down there will only be so many slots for rockers, country, or R&B singers. Personal musical preference matters. This years group is so diverse musically that it is hard to predict how it will all end up.

What I fail to understand is why
the judges raved about Jason (dreadlocks) and David Archuleta (Tues. 4/8/08). Jason is lovely when he sings softly, which is about all he can do. David Archuleta looks like a deer in the headlights each time he goes on stage and while he has a great voice, the only thing he has song are ballads for the most part. Personally I would like to see Carly stay in, but it seems like the judges want her gone.

I didn't get Castro's performance last night either. My wife and I thought he would get ripped - and they loved it. This year is probably going to be the hardest to predict. All 8 that are left will likely get some kind of opportunity.

Unfortunately I think one of the girls will be going home - probably Carly or Syesha.
