Barack Obama announced yesterday one of his intentions that ought to sit really well with father's everywhere.

He would like your daughter to be mandated by force of law to register to be drafted in the event we need to go to war.

No word on whether Obama will require effeminate men to do the same...

If by "effeminate men" you mean gay men, then yes, I think Obama supports that. If I'm not mistaken, gay men already have to register with the selective service at 18. At least I know I did.

Also, despite your tone that implies sane person would agree with the idea that women should sign up for the selective service in case there is ever need for a draft, there are quite a few people that would be for it. How do you feel about Israel requiring men and women to both serve in the military? How would you feel about young women being required to serve in the military in non-combat roles, if need be?

The Draft
Send every one including obama a draft notice
I did four years in the corps and every one should have to serve , even if they can't fight
It doesn't hurt to push a pencil. It helps to make a better person out of them .

Women Register For Selective Service
Republicans brag about Gov Palin's prowess with a rifle, picking off wolves and caribou from a helicopter, the you post a picture of a young girl in a white dress, thereby implying that the fairer sex is too weak and dainty to "involuntarily" serve in our nation's armed forces?!?!?

Guess that is okay for women to handle and use firearms, as long as what they shoot at, cannot return fire.

Women should not hold positions within the state and local police forces in the US that expose them to physical danger, using your logic.

Or are you just being "selective" when it comes to women potentially becoming obligated to serve our country, or is it just because it is something Obama agreed with and McCain did not???

The Draft?
Uh, I think women getting drafted is gonna be the least of our problems if it comes to the point where we need to bring the draft back. Conscription is an abomination that rivals slavery, and the idea that 18 year-old boys being forced to die in a war is any less appalling than 18 year-old girls being in the same situation is utterly bizarre logic, a little like saying it would be better if they dropped a nuke on Chicago rather than New York.

But hey, if you're worried about America resorting to the draft, we'll be a lot less likely to get into that situation with Obama in the White House than with hothead McCain singing "Bomb Bomb Iran."

Get a draft and end the wars. Simple as that. As soon as KMcC has to send HIS daughter [if he has one] or some other TH columnist has to have skin in the game - you can BET that not one will find the Iraq war all that necessary anymore. Not that that is what Obama's proposing, of course. Leave it to a fool like Kev to make this into a whinefest.
