HOW AMAZING is this? Fred Thompson filling in for Paul Harvey and speaking to the nation today - let us peek behind the curtain on his immigration plank if he decides to run.

Listen Here - Fred Thompson on Illegal Immigration

RUN FRED RUN...

Slow Down
Yes, Thompson sounds good in this rather folksy storytelling of the illegal invasion. But... there is nothing concrete to wrap your hands around here; which is fine because perhaps this is not the right venue for such things. Still, past history would suggest that Thompson is hardly the force that immigration hard-liners such as myself are going to get too excited over: An overall C rating from numbers USA. Statements such as this:

"You're going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship but not make it so easy that it's unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law."

"Look, it's just not realistic that we're going to round up 12 million people and ship them all out of the country."

In his recent interview with Fox news he seems to leave the door open for accepting at least some of the illegals for permanent residence and citizenship.

He does say some of the right things, but let's cool our heels just a little. Thompson has a lot more to say and propose before I would ever consider him on the right side of this issue.

And Here's the Rest of the....

...interview. At least ALL parts pertaining to Illegal Immigration. Take note, no hesitation to call them anything but what they are, "illegal aliens".

WALLACE: You also favor comprehensive immigration reform. I want to...

THOMPSON: No, no, no, no.
WALLACE: Well, let me put up on the screen something that you said last year about illegals, and let's take a look at it.

"You're going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship but not make it so easy that it's unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law."

Now, you said, "Look, it's just not realistic that we're going to round up 12 million people and ship them all out of the country."

THOMPSON: Well, that's true, as a general statement. We woke up one day after years of neglect and apparently discovered that we have somewhere between 12 million and 20 million illegal aliens in this country. So it became an impossible situation to deal with.

I mean, there's really no good solution. So what do you do? You have to start over.

*Well, I'm concerned about the next 12 million or 20 million. So that's why enforcement, and enforcement at the border, has to be primary.

I think most people feel disillusioned after 1986 when we had this deal offered to them before, and now we're insisting that, you know, we solve the security problem first, and then we'll talk about what to do with regard to other things
- certainly no amnesty or nothing blanket like that.

But figure out some way to make some differentiation between the kind of people that we have here.

**You know, if you have the right kind of policies, and you're not encouraging people to come here and encouraging them to stay once they're here, they'll go back, many of them, of their own volition,
....instead of having to, you know, load up moving vans and rounding people up. That's not going to happen.

Votes While a Sen.
Draw your own conclusions about the interview above. I posted to clear up the "in-between" of the segments quoted by Sammy.

- certainly no amnesty or nothing blanket like that.

Here also, are a few votes Sen. Thompson cast relating to "legal immigrants" while still serving.

YES on limit welfare for immigrants:
YES on visas for skilled workers:
YES on allowing more foreign workers into the US for farm work:

They're pretty self-explanatory. Sounds more like a real guest worker program. As opposed to THE guest worker program (A_M_N_E_S_T_Y) GWB & the rest want to spring on us..

not convinced yet
Fred is leaving an awful lot of room for a path to citizenship the way I read it. Tightening the border is good, but without interior (employer) enforcement we still have a problem. Personally, I think we should consider requiring proof of citizenship or legal status to get a job, open a bank acct., rent an apt., get a driver's license, get credit, etc, (things you and I do everyday) and make it as impossible to BE an illegal alien as we can. Coupled with a new provision that if you are deported, you will be denied re-entry would encourage many to repatriate to their home countries. Another amnesty would be a disaster. Bush said he was against amnesty, do you still believe him?

Agreed.
And that makes Duncan Hunter our best ideal candidate.

I will have to say this for Mitt Romney though, he has Marsha Blackburn's endorsement. She is at the TOP in getting the illegal-immigration thing fixed, and it speaks well of Mitt -at least- that he has her on his campaign.

A lot of candidates...
A lot of candidates take the easy way of appeasing, by simply saying we need to seal our border. That isn't the whole enchilada though...and Fred doesn't get past the finish line on illegal-immigration.
Hector Berlioz writes: Tuesday, March, 20, 2007 6:29 PM
Marsha Blackburn gets an A-
Pretty darn good, isn't she?

Even Bart Gordon, my congressman, a Democrat, gets a B!

No wonder we're losing elections
I can't believe you guys listened to the same audio clip that I did. What exactly do you think Fred could-of/should-of said to be any more clear about his position....or where the blame should be placed on the illegal immigration problem we face?

Can you tell me another Republican presidential candidate that you think will take a stronger position and take stronger action to attempt to solve our illegal immigration policy....better than Fred Thompson.

RUN FRED RUN!!!

Duncan Hunter
Duncan Hunter for one, if people would stop whining about their choices and vote for HIM in polls.

Hunter 2008

You bet, Duncan Hunter is the only candidate in the race who has the courage to put American citizens first. Everyone else is somewhere between outright pandering to the illegals with amnesty and vague promises of tighter border security. At CPAC he pledged to pardon our border patrol agents currently imprisoned for doing their jobs. He pledged to build the fence like they have in San Diego. It has cut crossings by over 90%. And he wants to do our China trade differently. Tremendous speech, unfortunately not many saw it. A review is here:
