See its one thing to root for your guy... It's another thing to utilize smears, deception, and innuendo to make your point...

For instance instead of championing the fact that your guy has now cleared the 15% threshold nationally in many polls - which Hewitt compatriot Patrick Ruffini was so dilligent to point out, the primary blogger on Hugh's page leads with this:

Huck Falling In Iowa; Politico Throws Him An Anvil
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 5:53 PM

This poll has Huck's lead at 9 in Iowa (Newsweek's poll taken from calls on December 5/6 had Huck's lead at 22 points.)

Ok a little fact-checking here... It was "Lee Newspapers" that found Huck in front by 9% - not Newsweek. The way Hugh writes it and puts them next to each other the impression is that Huck is falling (which he might in the near future - who knows). But this isn't legitimate. I could not find a previous Lee Newspapers poll to compare their present findings to. Their sample was exceedingly small and who knows how they polled.

The more telling polling story in Iowa is the RealClearPolitics Iowa polls page. Here you will find that the AVERAGE of all the most recent polls taken puts Huck in front of Mitt by an AVERAGE of 34.5 to 21.7. Because that's an average - that means that some of those polls mean the margin is LARGER than that. Heck even the Newsweek poll had Huck up by 22.

Even the ever accurate Rasmussen is showing Huck still gaining and now leading in more states than ever before including Michigan, South Carolina, and Florida...

Hugh - you're certainly entitled to cheer for the guy you are bought and sold for (and personally I'd love to see you be the Press Secretary for President Mitt), but to do so in less than sincere ways makes you an operative... and an OPERATIVE is someone "who is not to be trusted as an analyst!"

CAN YOU BE TRUSTED
Kevin you have been so Anti MORMAN and PRO
HUCK, what is your agenda:

WE:::: the Independent Conservatives do not need a "PREACHER IN CHIEF" a bigot like HUCK as our candidate who will assure another 8 years for the Clintoons:

HUCK has a landfilled with garbage, it doesn't end. Is he another Jimmy Swaggart or Jimmy Baker? A Jimmy Carter ?

Perhaps you could do as National Review did:
DO YOUR HOMEWORK
Research your candidate;

Kevin - lets be fair to Hugh
he wrote a book entitled "a mormon in the whitehouse" but he did not want americans to take that title seriously. Only Hugh is allowed to use Romney's Religion as an adjective when describing his presidential campaign - everyone else should describe Romney as "an american running for president" and those who dare take Hugh's title seriously are bigots! Also, after months of listening to Romney-all-the-time radio - formerly known as the Hugh Hewitt Show, Romney's poll numbers are stagnant and when they move its in a downward spiral. After NR endorses romney and Huckstar's insult dominates the cover of the newyork times - Romney's polls remain stagnant. BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS FOR HUGH
- when Romney does not get to the whitehouse, he gets to write the follow-up book "The rise and fall of a mormon presidential candidate" blaming bigots and confused americans.......because americans were unable to get past that religious book title and religious speech aimed at making religion a non-factor in Romney's campaign....and social conservative americans just could not ignore Saint Romney's liberal record because they did not want their MORALS ON SALE OR IS IT MORALS THAT MONEY CAN BUY.

There's an Old Saying
That Iowans pick corn and NH picks Presidents. It's funny to watch the media pick the states that Huck leads in and conviently skip the NH poll which has Romney up by double digits.Everybody is making the mistake of believing that all republicans vote on social issues alone or they're all nanny staters. I think most Republicans want somebody that can do the job and not be a feel your pain guy.Huck has a background of being a lib on every issue but he cares about the "little guy". Yes he panders to the midgets.I'm waiting for him to issue a memo that says "When I become President,I will no longer accept Target gift cards, only Neiman Marcus ones".

Thats what the Christian voters of South Carolina, Florida, Michigan and Iowa are saying: Morals Matter More than Mitt's Money-or even more than their own money.

(I am really sorry aboutNew Hampshire.)

Romney's speech
Could really help him in the long run.Not because of what was said in the speech but because it put the Mormon issue out there early. This means that the issue will go through a burn out during the primaries and it won't come back to haunt him during the general. People will be sick of hearing about it and it can be considered old news. If Clinton or Obama emerge as the dem candidate they will be facing a gender/race bias which will rival the religious bias against Mitt.Huck has actually done Mitt a favor by his idiotic jesus/ satan comment. It showed what a knuckle dragger Huck really is by trying to use religion as a wedge issue.
Spidey writes: Saturday, December, 15, 2007 6:21 AM
Thompson Could help Mitt
According to the Politico Thompson has done some mailouts nailing Shuckter on immigration.Obviously Thompson wants to finish in the money in Iowa to keep his campaign alive. His base of support there is roughly what Huck's is. If he can peel some votes from Huck it could put Romney over the top. If Mitt chose Thompson as his VP that could assuage the southern vote in the general.

BS Kevin

I read the article and was not confused by the fact that 2 different polls were utilized.

I love ya, but sometimes you use a little too much muscle and a little too little brain matter.

With all undue respect, as a Christian voter of Florida, you aren't qualified to speak to what me and my compatriots do or do not like. Besides, in terms of morality I'll take Romney over Huckabee in a flat second. Romney's money and strong organization are simply a bonus.

Huckabee's lead down here over Romney is incredibly small, and Florida is not likely to get burned by another born again bible thumper. Plus, Huckabee peeked too soon. Now that his boogeymen are coming out of the closet, he has less and less appeal.

Why the axe-grinding against Hugh? Everyone knows by now that he is a huge Romney supporter. They can tell it simply by reading his posts. Likewise, its obvious that Matt Lewis is the anti-Hugh. Both opinions are to be taken for what they are.

But you seem to be steadily drifting into the anti-Hugh column. Why take your cues from Hugh's posts? And why do you keep mentioning the whole "not to be trusted as an analyst" bit? I'm not sure why you seem to be so personally offended by the statement, unless of course you think it to be true in some degree. Its petty, to say the least.

Kevin has not endorsed anyone. He has been tough on everyone and said good things about both Romney and Huckabee. Go back a few pages and you can read some of his misgivings about Huck. Kevin is an honest reporter, and as far as I am concerned he is the most honest out there. He is transparent with his feelings and I appreciate that.

Why so much Anti-Huckabee??
I am troubled by the attitude of the Hugh Hewitt's , The National Reviews, and the Bill Crystal's who have such Huck hatred!! They definately do not understand the concerns that I have about Mormonism with its beliefs and history. I am tired of being considered to be a religious bigot because of these concerns. To be straight and blunt, I believe Romney might have the nomination wrapped up if he is a Christian and not a Mormon!!
I know that one of the things these folks have out there is that the Democrats want Huckabee because they can beat him. I think it is the other way around. Remember the poll that came out that said that any of the top six contenders for the Republican nomination could be Hillary?? I believe that the steaks are much higher now and the Republican primary in effect could be the general election.
Due to the main stream Republicans reaction to Huckabee with their accusation of Religious bigotry(Romney) and thumbing their nose at Huckabee by saying that he is not ready for prime time and I much more open to the idea of voting for a third party candidate.

Romney mass emailing Hewitt column
Per AP article:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071215/ap_po/romney_the_fighte r;_ylt=As90d1FaJQacPsd.Njd45yVI2ocA

The Romney campaign is emailing a link to Hugh Hewitt's Townhall article entitled, "Huckicide." Did Hewitt really write the article, or was it planted by the campaign?

The article referred to Romney's use of surrogates to launch an all out attack on Huckabee. A guess Hugh is one of those surrogates.

Hugh blinded by emotion
I called the Hugh Hewitt radio show a couple days ago and asked him directly if he was backing Romney. After a pause Hugh said if the election were today he would vote Romney.Well anyone who has listened to Hugh's show is smart enough to know that he's endorsing Romney. Hugh's book sales are tied to Romney. Hugh has attacked all other republicans, primarily Huckabee since he's leading in the states where Mitt needs to win.
Hugh began his radio show on Friday Dec. 14, by stating Romney had over-taken Huckabee in a poll and that Huckabee was no longer a top tier candidate, not worthy of mentioning again on the show.
Interestingly, it didn't take Hugh long before he was attacking Huckabee again.

Smart listeners of which Hugh's show has many, look for truth and honesty and see Hugh's emotional tie to Romney.

Dennis M....Lemme get this straight
In a state where Romney is claiming Evangelicals are rallying to the evangelical candidate out of "bigotry"(so says Hewitt)...they combat it by mailing out an article by the inflammatory (and ridiculous) author of his biography, slamming and criticizing the general population's surging comfort with Huckabee

Instead of say...ingratiating himself to those same people...

He IS the smartest candidate...guh

This is better than a sitcom!

So True
Kevin is dead right. Hewitt's main benefit is his guests. But his naked partisianship for Romney is utterly unprofessional. He's simply unlistenable. He spins, bends, obfuscates and denies he's doing it. Bring on Dean Barnett; he's smarter, knows more about the popular culture and takes more intellectual approach. Or Mark Steyn. Somebody. Just have Hugh shut the hell up.

Mitt's Market Share Analysis
Fiscal Conservatives please listen up. Mitt's stock is rising in wall street because his rich republican business cronies are buying it in volumes. However, Mitt's market share in main street is decreasing because voters find him unpredictable. Mitt is a risky investment that needs to be sold now. While campaigns are funded in wall street, mainstreet voters decide who will get to be president. Mitt Romney, the worst investment money can buy!
