Mitt's: "Searched"

When advising campaigns I always think the "human element" ads are the strongest thing you can produce (on the positive side of the ledger). There is so much I like about this ad it's hard to fit it all in. One thing that stood out to me is the indictment it is to Giulianni. There's no timeline mentioned, there's no reference to the Mayor - but invoking New York City is way more than just symbolic. "Command Center"? Finding someone's LOST loved one? The funny thing is the producers may not have even intended it to be an anti-Giuliani message - but the conclusive overwhelming effect certainly leads the mind to that result.

I've said it soooo many times before Mitt's video team is perhaps the best I've ever seen in a presidential cycle. Ad after ad after ad have been so compelling, so dead center on target. This early in the primaries and they're already producing the quality of spots that we don't often see until late summer...

Huck's: "Enough"

Dick Morris repeatedly says on nearly every television and radio show he does that the most important campaign ad is the "reponse" ad. Because for most, it is the "final positioning" of whatever the specific issue is in the minds of the voters. If that's true then Huck does himself pretty good in this newest ad. A firm rebuke to the red-faced-press-secretaries in waiting. And yet he manages to keep it positive. And that's hard to do. But this speaks to Huck's original appeal that the TownHall/NRO nexxus still really fails to grasp. An analyst who shall not be named spent yesterday documenting each gaffe that he could count of Huck's. Like a twelve year old with an abacus the score piled up. Then there was the self-congratulatory gloating on-air... but with all respect - it didn't move the needle on Huck. Huck's supporters aren't supporting him because he's perfect, or that he attempts to look, sound, or campaign perfectly. There is a trust factor that Huck's supporters are with him on that runs deeper than that - and that's why it drives the pointy-left-brainer-my-listeners-are-all-the-rich-smart-better-than-you-types a little crazy. Huck will never shop at Nordstrom, and people like him all the more for the fact that he's ok with that.

DISCLAIMER: For the first time in my punditry history I have chosen NOT to endorse publicly a GOP primary candidate. I am ready to support the nominee, even agressively as long as that nominee is not Rudy Giuliani, well and Ron Paul (but come one no one even thinks he's still running...) There are problems with every single one of our candidates and some significant ones with Mitt, Fred, and Huck, even more with McCain. Yet because any of these four would be clearly superior to Obama, Hillary, Edwards... I can eagerly work for any of them (for McCain while holding my nose.)

This whole situation
changed today.Huck accused Mitt of being dishonest and would be a dishonest president.I can't believe the hubris coming from this guy who self enriched his way all therough being governor. Mitt hasn't made any personal attacks anywhere. My jaw was dropped all the way through this press conference.

Thanks, post receptacle. I loathe you.
Dr. Ron Paul is certainly the most conservative Republican you'll find in THIS lot of candidates. Back before Republican got made into a bad word, a conservative was just that - conservative in the use of federal power. A TRUE conservative believes federal powers should be LIMITED to those enumerated in the Constitution. ANY OTHER POWER should be delegated to the states. That was the original design of our nation. Maybe you're wondering why? Another thing that is implicit in the Constitution is the ability of each and every citizen to move to whichever state they want AT ANY TIME WITH NO INTERFERENCE BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. And why would they do that? SO GOVERNMENT WOULD NOT BE A MONOPOLY. You can freely choose the government that works best for you. You can freely move to another state that has like minded people so you can enjoy a government that spends as much or as little as is consistent with your views of what a state should offer. Getting the federal government off your back is the first step to getting state and local governments that are truly responsive to your needs, instead of jackbooted bullies that push you around and confiscate your wealth to give to others.

compassionate Romney
So where are all the Romney supporters denouncing this ad as compassionate conservativism? Where is the profit in shutting down your business to find a girl? Romney is a terrible conservative.

Or, what does this have to do with the Presidency? That he will personally spend your tax money on whatever he deems necessary? That he's a nice guy? That he would use something like that in an ad just adds to my dislike for him. He can lie about Huckabee, lie about his liberal record but I should vote for him because he cares about his friends missing daughter. I don't see that as out of the ordinary. Who wouldn't do all they can to find a friends daughter?

It was great what he did. Just making the point that if Huckabee had an ad like that, that's how he would be attacked. I still don't like Romney though.

Does anyone
Actually even believe Kevin is really a Republican? I mean come on. Just look at his archives.

This "man" is a phoney.

He has been the main conduit for spreading rumors and garbage about every single republican candidate running.

Knight, if there were any evidence, Kevin would have it in a second. I am sure he has Kos and Soros on speed dial, the way he has been blogging.

Kevin, a question
You mentioned a townhall columnist who cataloged Huckabee's every gaffe (I am guessing Hewitt). Anyway, I just read Coulter's recent column http://www.anncoulter.com/ and it is just downright mean. I have been a huge fan of hers, but I am starting to like her less and less the meaner she is to Huck. I am currently reading his book "Character is the Issue" and am liking this man more and more. Could you give your perspective on her column and her dislike of Huckabee? I thank you for remaining unbiased in the GOP primaries, because it makes me feel like I can come to you blog and get an objective viewpoint.

ALL LIBERAL FLIP-FLOPPING MEMBERS OF CFR
Well, I am sure Kevin is happy to know that the NEOCON NEWS NETWORK...I.E. FOX NEWS...you know the "Fair and Balanced News Network where the spin stops here and all...?? has recently banned Dr Ron Paul from the debates.

So, what are they afraid of? By doing this they have nailed the last nail in their own coffin or rather they have pissed in their own hat because Ron Paul supporters will not take this with a grain of salt. Neither will Dr Paul because just like they tried to cut Reagan's Microphone off in New Hampshire...they are not even letting Dr Paul have a Microphone at all.

It aint over and you aint seen nothing yet!!!

KEVIN, YOUR SNIED REMARK ABOUT RON PAUL(BUT COME ON, NO ONE EVEN THINKS HE'S STILL RUNNING...) THAT'S WHAT YOU AND YOUR ELITIST FRIENDS ON FOX NEWS WOULD LIKE TO THINK SINCE FOX EXCLUDED HIM FROM THE DEBATES...THEY TOOK REAGAN'S MICROPONE AWAY DURING THE NEW HAMSHIRE DEBATES AND NOW THEY WILL NOT EVEN GIVE RON PAUL A MICROPHONE. TALK ABOUT PLAYING DIRTY? I IMAGINE DUNCAN HUNTER HAS BEEN BANNED TOO???

Kitty,
Coulter is a mirror image of Carville. They're both mean spirited. They both make their living (handsomely at that) by profiting from the left-right, horizontal back and forth name-calling, accomplish nothing but further polarize and divide the country into extremes. Huckabee practices vertical politics and strives to step over the back and forth tug o war to actually accomplish something, to find solutions that work, to do something good that lifts America up. Huckabee is a leader and Coulter is nothing but smart-mouth commentator, sometimes funny but never contributing a positive thing, never accomplishing anything good for the conservative cause, never winning, but always whining and complaining - it's how she became successful and made a lot of money by driving a wedge between Americans separating the left and right. And now she's turned her efforts and her sharp tongue and pen to dividing Republicans and conservatives. The enemy is within and among us - it is the divisive spirit of cynicism and anger and judgementalism. Huckabee represents the antidote, a positive message, optimism, a can do attitude and creative indomitable spirit that inspires and reassures us as Americans that united we can accomplish great things.
