Congressman Mike Pence led the charge in the House of Representatives that effectively headed Feinstein, Kerry, and Durbin off at the pass. By adding an amendment to the Financial Services and General Government bill.
His amendment will disallow any federal funds to be used to carry out any enforcement of a revived "Fairness Doctrine."
It passed 309-115...
Meaning - even a major chunk of Democrats thought the idea of reviving the ancient rule that would in essence stifle most free speech in on-air capacities - was a really stupid idea.
Pence had this to say upon the overwhelming victorious vote in his favor:
"Today the House of Representatives affirmed that freedom will continue to reign on the airwaves of America. Thanks to the support of 308 of my colleagues, Congress has ensured that the Fairness Doctrine will remain in the grave for now. This was a resounding victory for free speech.
"However, the fight for freedom on the American airwaves is not over. With many still hoping to resurrect this archaic doctrine of unfairness, we must continue to stay on the offense. Tonight I will introduce the 'Broadcaster Freedom Act' to ensure that the victory we experienced on the House floor today extends to future generations.
"I thank all my colleagues, especially the Republican leadership in the House for delivering this resounding victory for the freedom of speech."

freedom of speech! And, it restored some confidence in Congressman Pence after going "Brain Dead" with Jack Kemp on the issue of allowing the Washington D.C. citizens to have "State Representation". Good job Pence! |

Congressman Pence, you have done a good days work, no, more like a good terms work when compared to the non-binding resolve of your sister chambers' norm. Thanks for your true and honorable service to Americans. You can stand tall and be proud. Who knows, maybe some of those that brush againts you in a conduct of a Senate day will take notice and decide to partake. That, sir, would be very special. Congratulations -- Congressman. |

Thank the Lord, and thank you Mr. Pence!
It was quite distressing to think liberals could-again-lie so eagerly, casually, yet, in such a profound way...
I sat there thinking just the other day
'They -these liberals-run Hollywood, or most of it,almost all cable and network tv, most major news outlets and magazines, except maybe a few, like Fox News, leaving, basically, just Christian talk radio, and WABC. So where's the *imbalance*? Am I missing something here?'
I am grateful I will not have to be burdened, or have *our* talk radio tampered with by such thoughts, or possibilities, anymore..

Maybe the liberals realized how it might affect them. Just think, every time CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and MSNBC give their nightly news, someone with a conservative viewpoint would have had to be sitting beside the anchors to give the conservative view.
Thankfully, and hopefully, this "Unfairness" Doctrine is history. |

Is starting to make a name for himself.
If the GOP can retake the House in 2008, Pence should be a very strong candidated for Speaker. |

The people are bein' listened too! Holy sh*t, am I dreamin'??? No - don't wake me up!
God Bless You Congressman Pence and the other 308 truly FAIR representatives!
You other 115- not so much. |

The House clerk hasn't updated the final vote tally into the website. I want to know who the 115 congressmen were who voted against HR 2905. Any Republicans who voted against Pence need to be scrutinized and answer why they voted against this. |

They are still talking about it on Fox News as though it is an issue. I can only imagine what CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and ABC are doing. |
