Not so much!

Word comes today that the campaign of John McCain is distancing itself from former rival Mike Huckabee. Certainly not surprising.

I think Huck has irritated McCain from the beginning. But Huck made nice and helped McCain outlast all the other also-rans in the primary process (except Ron Paul who evidently is still IN the race). A certain degree of loyalty followed and McCain has allowed Huck out albeit on a fairly sort leash to do some campaigning on his behalf.

Then came last week's dreadful joke at the NRA.

And that's the problem...

Democrats are driven by the agenda of the far left and are advancing the issues forcefully - even against the will of the people. Republicans are in two camps. One is sticking their head in the sand - like the nominee on the California marriage issue. Or the bumbling buffanoory of moments like Huck's at the NRA last week.

That little throw away line gets picked up, manipulated, and saturated through the electorate in a way that neither McCain nor Huck can control.

We the people - are much more aligned with the Republicans on the issues across the board, but we are watching the opportunity to make this a meaningful election be washed away by a parade of badness...

Sad, really sad!

What?
What could Huck bring to the ticket?

The evangelicals are not going to vote for McCain with any engery at all. They will vote against Obama, but not for McCain.

Huck would be a ball and chain.

Huckles, the clown
Hopefully, this latest gaff will put Huckles into the history books of what not to do to win the presidency.

Ball and chain? Try DEAD WEIGHT around McCain's neck.

Obama is the only Democrat

the GOP could possibly defeat in November. However, even Obama can defeat the GOP if McCain rejects the social conservatives. The Party platform and his VP pick will determine whether McCain has any chance in November. Even with everything falling right, it will be very, very close.

eddie, for once I agree
A bad VP choice could be the undoing of McCain's hopes. Unfortunately for you it should be clear that your man is on the "more harm than good" list of potential choices. McCain needs a good conservative with executive experience (i.e. not another Senator).

hambones,

we shall see in November who is right. My concern is whether McCain has any clue on how to engage the social conservatives. To this point, it appears he is clueless. Hopefully, that will change. I will guarantee a GOP loss if the GOP platform does not contain planks supporting a Right to Life constitutional amendment, a Protection of Marriage constitutional amendment, and opposing government funding of embryonic stem cell research. There are too many Americans who see these as priority issues. Should the GOP abandon these issues, it will be relegating itself to third party status for the foreseeable future.

Remember, Huckabee's

primary support comes from social conservatives. Also, Huckabee is the only GOP national figure with a sound record of governorship. Being re-elected twice is not to be sneezed at.

And remember Eddietoo
Huk shot his foot on Friday, and the McCain's are running the other way...FAST.

I agree Qween
McCain should run as far as he can so he doesn't get dragged down with Huckabee. Huckabee is going to be ruined by that remark if he isn't already. And its going to be turned against McCain if he doesn't cut the ties that bind him to Huckabee. No need for him to go down in flames. McCain can and should press his eject button. Anyone have any hard evidence that McCain is doing that? I've only heard rumors so far.
