Now, Now...
"gun"lock. You're starting to talk like Hill and the assassination of RKF. (Haven't we all thought the same thing re: Mack). That's why I would love to see Mitt in there.

Morris hates Mitt as a candidate. Came out of the box from the get-go dissing Mitt as a flip/flopper. Morris often gets it wrong but he does watch the polls. He keeps saying polls show Mitt "sinks the ticket."

I wonder if that's true. Joe once pointed out that Mitt would work if they sold him as savior of the economy. With Mitt on the ticket, I might even give Mack a few bucks--for the very reasons you mention.

I don't know Palin either. I've never heard her speak and don't know how she would do in the debates. But she would shake things up and get some votes, I think.

She's a former beauty queen; the blue collar guys would vote for her, women would vote for her; conservatives would vote for her.

I hear that Palin is a real conservative but I don't know her. But I really liked what she said about drilling.

Normally I would go along with the position that accepting Mac's VP would be political death, but Mac is OLD and has had a lot of health issues. I wonder what the probability of him actually living til election day let alone through his first (and likely only) term.

The ONLY way I will vote for Mac is if he has a real conservative VP.

I've thought the same thing: That Mitt could be articulating a good case for himself and getting a handle on the economy right now.

His appearance on Hannity a while back reminded us how strong and sound he really is.

I know; I know. The guys on here that really, really don't like Mack don't want Mitt tainted as Makc's VP. But Mitt's made no bones; he wants it.

And if Palin were determined not to accept VP, she would have said so by now. I think she's in if Mack asks.

Is that you?

Somehow I doubt Mitt would be "losing" to Obama right now. Mac is letting so many opportunities pass by that Mitt wouldn't have.

You got the man you wanted. Did you think that those of us who really disliked his positions would suddenly change when he got the nomination?

So don't bellyache now, we warned you long ago that Mac wasn't a conservative or a good candidate.

You made your bed, now YOU sleep in it. If America can't survive Obama, Mac won't be able to save it either.

Absolutely right! If we tuck our tails, fall in line and hold our noses we will be asking to be abused again and again. NO MAS!

Who is the new Reagan? Good question, remains to be seen. I am actually as optimistic as MaineConservative, although it seldom comes across in my posts. We have had bigger obstacles thrown in our way, Civil War, Great Depression, WWII, and we have prevailed. Obama will over-reach and the backlash will be large and swift. Wait for the 2010 mid-terms and you will see. By 2012, someone will emerge, could be Jindal, Palin, someone we haven't even heard of yet.
MaineConservative writes: Friday, July, 11, 2008 5:25 PM

Just my humble opinion, you understand, but if enough of us show we are not going to be bullied or frightened into voting for one of the two liberals running, it will give the eventual winner no mandate for a socialist agenda.

"None of the above" will have a big, important showing in November.

I think there are a few of potential conservative leaders of the future. I personally love Romney and believe the GOP will eventually see his virtues. I also like Jindal and Palin, but I'm sure others could emerge as well.

As Hannity would say, "Don't let your heart be troubled". We'll survive.

I see your point. But, my question is What will take us to conservative thinking?

My thought is an Obama win makes all the pols think the people want liberalism so the RINOS will become more lib in order to win.

Mack won the primary because no one in their right minds think cons can win anything.

I am not afraid for myself. I am "afraid" of an increasingly socialist population who will never see the virtues in conservatism. I think the electorate will never figure out how the ship should be "righted." (Good pun!)

I remember Carter well: running out of gas in a gas line, sweaters, hostages, astronomical interest rates--up to 18%, I think.

In the midst of misery, along came Reagan. So, who is the new Reagan?
MaineConservative writes: Friday, July, 11, 2008 4:38 PM
K.G., My Dear
I can't see how jumping on the Straight Talk Express going to Liberaltown is going to take us to Conservativeburg. I, for one, think it is time to jump off that bus (even though I think we've already been thrown off of it by the driver).

VA Pat is right in that we have had years of liberal indoctrination, but I am more optimistic than he about the future. I believe that this is cyclical and it will be a painful process to purge the liberals now in charge of the RNC, but I believe it will be done.

You used the Carter begat Reagan analogy, and I disagree that it is irrelevant today. I think the same is likely to happen. We have been through tough times before and survived. Heck, I remember parking in long lines and waiting hours to fill up the car with gas, and trying to get a mortgage for a house at over 12% interest.

I am not afraid of the future, whether it means El Presidente McCain or President Obama. Either way, we're heading for turbulent waters, but we will right the ship eventually.

Yep, we may be too far gone to save. 40 years of liberal indoctrination have taken their toll.

Sob! I know, I know. It's like the whole world has gone mad.

But how to change the hearts and minds of the electorate most of whom do not think about politics and principles at all and have all been indoctrinated by teachers who have been indoctrinated by their teachers?

An individual vote is one dinky factor. We have lost control of the propaganda (in the pure sense) fora: schools, MSM and entertainment. People are hard-wired to believe Dems = good; cons = evil, greedy white guys out to exploit the poor, the middle class, people of color and the environment.

We need men (and women) to match our message. It's a perenial problem with one bright shining moment: Reagan.

It's not the politicians; it's the people. How do you convince the people to vote against the nanny-state when more and more are sucking at the public tah-tah?

Sheesh!
Are we going to have to check our guns at the campfire like we were entering the town saloon?

People must make choices according to the dictates of their own consciences. They should not be mocked or ridiculed for it.

I understand Joe's frustration, but these three have been standing on the same principle for months now....they are not likely to respond positively to this kind of provocation.

Let it go.....

To My Friends V.Pat, Phil and Maine
I feel your pain, but I cannot see the wisdom in your tactics. I know that Jimmy Carter gave us Reagan, but I don't see that happening again any time soon.

Times have changed. Everything's moving hard-left at a rapid pace. All of us would love to see it reverse field and move hard right.

But how to do it? I can't see how voting third party or not voting will cause the stupid people into moving right. I frankly don't know what would stop the stampede.

Maybe oil prices.

An Obama win will be viewed as hard-left mandate. A Mack win will be seen as soft-right mandate. We all want our Pubs to stand up and be conservatives, but they are politicians and will go where the wind blows to get elected.

As I see it, right now we are on defense. Just keep the country from racing hard-left the best we can. An Obama win sends signals to the politicians that the country wants to go hard left and politicians will respond accordingly.

K.G. writes: Friday, July, 11, 2008 11:48 AM
Ohmygoodness, Friends
There you go again. I didn't mean the Pubs' spanking should be losing the election. I meant we should knock 'em along side the head.

Or better yet, knock the electorate. Joe's right. It didn't look like my man Mitt or the other guys could have won the general. It's probably still the case.

You gotta know who you're mad at. It's the stupid voters. And why are they stupid? Because we have no charismatic, articulate conservative leader to make the case to the American people.

Mitt has potential. But a bunch of stupid Pubs much less Dems were never not going to vote for a squeaky clean, filthy rich, perfectly-coiffed Mormon.

We cons are like the ugly girl who wants to marry the handsome quarterback. It ain't happening because we are pathetic minority unable to convince the stupid majority.

Whining like a little girl? Carrying water for Obama? You still just don't get it.

I have had no one that has been able to convince me that McCain will be any better than Obama. In my opinion, liberalism is much uglier coming from the Republican Party than from the dems.

If you are sick of hearing this from VA Pat and me, I invite you to go read the comments on Hawkin's column today. There are many of us, in fact, more than you nose-holders.

The argument that McCain is not as bad as Obama is not cutting it for me. He's your guy, go try and get him elected. For me, I'm doing exactly as you said, working to get conservatives elected in my state (which is difficult in a state with two RINO senator Snowe and Collins).

Bite me. I will not vote for your liberal, even if he is wearing an R jersey. I don't vote for liberals.

Aren't you sick of me too? I feel slighted.

Did you ever think two years ago that you would later be defending Democratic positions against conservatives? I could accept it had you simply switched parties on principle but you chose to whore yourself out to the party and are now fighting those of us who are going to stand and fight for OUR principles. If you are sick and tired of that, you need to look in a mirror. You vastly over-estimated RINOs and vastly under-estimated conservatives. Now you don't have any friends. Even those you are pandering to don't respect you. That is why it is not a good idea trying to make friends with your enemies by attacking your friends. It's not too late. You can switch to the winning side.

I am so sick of hearing this crap from you and Virginia Patriot. Seriously, wake up and stop being such an idiot. You are both better than that.

The Dems did not pick the GOP candidate. You had a race where it was essentially Mitt Romney, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and Fred Thompson. Giuilani imploded on his own. Fred Thompson did not seem like he wanted to even run (can't blame him for wanting to stay home with Jeri).

Oh wait, there was Duncan Hunter. Nice guy (I like Duncan Hunter a lot) who polled less than 5% in states where only Republicans can vote in the primaries. Do you mean him?

Or do you mean that dumb man's Buchanan, Tancredo?

So GOP primary voters ulitmately had to choose between Romney, McCain, and Huckabee. More chose McCain than Romney or Huckabee. It was a rational choice if you do not want Barack Obama to win. Neither Romney or Huckabee could have won in the general.

So rather whinning like a little girl (Jeeze I thought there were still real men in Maine and Virginia), why don't you stop carrying water for Barack Obama, work towards electing conservatives in your state and other elections, and get over it.

The Republicans Deserve a Spanking...
...for joining rather than standing up to the Left on open borders, Reconquista, judicial fiat, nutty environmental policies, and growing the dysfunctional nanny state.

They have been complicit in creating an electorate who believes that it's government's role to hand out goodies rather than protect God-given rights.

GOP-RIP

The GOP will die without conservative votes. The Stupid Party tried to shoot itself in the foot and missed, kneecapping itself, looks like it might be a crippling injury. McCainiacs won't notice until November. When it's too late.

That spanking may indeed come in Novemeber. Maybe when the GOP realizes allowing the dems to pick their candidate wasn't a great idea, we conservatives may regain control of the GOP.

Yes, the Republicans are losing America and deserve to. After the damage they have done to this country in the last 25 years, they deserve to fade away for at least two generations if not forever.
