It's been a while since I've posted on this topic. If you've read this blog for a while you know that I was long ago - the very first person to predict that Obama will upend Hillary and become the nominee for the Dems as President.
This week's money numbers prove it.
Obama has finally released the final numbers of dollars raised in the first leg of the 2008 race. Hillary had already announced that she had raised $26 million. Obama today announced his totals at $25 million. But upon careful inspection look carefully at how the money is allocated.
Hillary has not announced her breakdown yet - but is to be believed from Clinton staffers that she has about $16-18 million available for the highly competitive primary race. Her remaining amount must wait to be used in the general election (should she turn out to be the nominee.)
Obama is in with $23.5 million that can be used for the primaries. And as best as I can tell this edges candidates from both parties in monies allocated for primary spending.
Does money equate to votes? Not necessarily but the other number that Obama released was the "how many donors" got him to the $25 million... more than 100,000 seperate donors. Imagine this as his ground game in the grassroots, walking the precinct efforts. That combined with the fact that he did in fact outraise EVERYONE for the primaries - only points to the increasing likelihood that his winning the party's mantle of nominee is not merely possible, but growing in certainty.
