I'm reporting live from a previously undisclosed location. Let's just it is as practically far away as you can possibly get from New York - while still being in the same country.
My listners know that I am officially on vacation for a week. My readers are just now finding that out. But while the Lovely Bride slept this morning I thought I would sneak down to the local StarBucks and sign on for a bit of blogging/catching up.
I was rather irked that I couldn't log on to the Drudge Report at the first Starbucks I stopped at. No worries there is another only two blocks from here.
So that was a few minutes ago. Now to set the stage these are the only two Starbucks in the thriving little yet very prominent downtown city that I am presently in. It is a town that is known for its very wealthy and very elite who own homes in this area. We come here simply because the Lovely Bride says it's one of her favorite places on earth.
Now at my second and last Starbucks stop in said city, I alas, again can not sign on to said Drudge Report. The message I kept getting at both locations went something along the lines of "Access to this site has been restricted by the owner of this network. Please request permission from your network administrator before accessing."
It seemed one of the more strange error messages I've ever seen - so I asked the guy behind the counter. At first he played like he was busy, and finally out of frustration, he explained that he had no say in the matter and that the manager (of both stores) would be in after 10am if I wished to stay and bring it up then.
Again a strange response.
So now I really want to know... Did the Starbucks stores in one of the hometowns of Brad Pitt and Oprah Winfrey ban access to the Drudge Report? Curiously awakened minds now want to know.
By the way - since I am on vacation - I'm not waiting till 10am PST to find out. But I will be back tomorrow...

Had the starbucks been owned by a conservative, or perhaps a Christian, and the site being blocked was say, NY Times, I could see the headlines now--"Sensorship!"
But, not if its the Liberals. It does explain why they always seem to not know much facts about whats really going on in the world around them...Daily Koss and NY times doesn't exactly deal with facts much...
Good catch Kevin. I'd love to know who the owner is...maybe when you get back from vacation, you could post their addresses. |

Remember when the twin towers were flattened on September 11th? STARBUCKS was charging $$$ for water to any of the victims who were still among the living. That is how dedicated Starbucks is to making those BUCKS!! They don't call it "starbucks" for nothing. The mighty buck rules the world.. no matter what. That is the pseudo-liberal way of thinking and don't let anyone or anything interfer with that goal !!

I had the same error with drudgereport.com - tried the url with a www.drudgereport.com and it worked, I would guess a DNS issue and not a Starbucks conspiracy. I'm not a Starbucks fan.

I'm not a patron of Starbucks but I had the same error trying to access the url drudgereport.com, so I tried again with www.drudgereport.com and was able to view the site. Today both work. I use a web-base tool to help determine why I can't reach some web sites (www.dnsstuff.com). |

We got the same blank page with that quote 2 days ago when I checked drudge. Had done the same thing techla (above) did, before I read this, and happened to get in.
We are far removed from such places of privilege and access here, an urban area near NYC, and am pretty sure drudge's has been this way a few days..Sorry for your inconvenience though.
But you don't seem to be alone, and I don't think it's just your location, or Starbucks..So don't think it's a ca-ching thing..
The Starbucks' agenda's a whole notha' cup altogether :-)
I think myspace is experiencing power outtages too..hemm..
Hope this helps..Happy trails :-)

Well 11:38pm est and I can get into drudge's no, no problem, direct.
Apparently there are power outtages nationwide, in some places. As I understand, myspace.com is experiencing the effect of a power outage too.
Don't know where you are, but there was torrential rain in the Northeast here today.
I happened to see this story about outages on the other coast.
Don't know that it applies..these things may all be connected..but not, perse, conspiratorial.

Not to worry about Drudge block. I got the same message up here in Maine Sunday evening! Ten minutes later, Drudge was back!Overload problems up here usually caused by anxious lobsters, angry mosquitoes, or stranded tourists. |
