"If you don't agree with me then zip it..."

I have been asked regularly of recent as to why I have such a dislike for the candidacy of Ron Paul. The first thing that comes to mind is obviously the stark denial that he has in his own mind that Islamic Jihadists around the world are trying to kill us and he seems to think if we just come home and lock ourselves in our room that they will just go away... (denial of reality)

But I've recently added a second - the behavior of those who support him. Rhetorical thugs that attempt to bully anyone who disagrees with them. Watch the comments grow even to this blog entry as proof. But they do it in public to...

Best Quote of the story: "You're not helping your candidate with this," a middle-aged man told a 20-something man toting a blue-and-white Paul campaign sign.

I'm all for letting all the candidates express themselves and articulate their message. That's one of the reasons I was equally critical of the Brownback campaign at CPAC attempting to disrupt Governor Mitt Romney's slate of interviews on radio row at CPAC last year.

In adopting such methods - you're effectively arguing for the elimination of free speech. A lack of opportunity to compare ideas, and for a campaign that supposedly going to show the universe how much grassroots support there is for one man's ideas... you're not allowing others to choose when you behave like a bunch of baboons...

Demonstrating against a candidate is
...not "bullying".

Giuliani is just a big chicken. I can guarantee you that Huckabee would have gone over and tried to charm the crowd - and he would have earned a lot of respect for doing so. But when Captain 9/11 doesn't have the NYPD and his harem of wives to protect him, he turns into a great big surrender monkey.

Strangely, I never see Giuliani supporters out on the road when other candidates are in town. Ever. Where were Rudy's Georgia supporters? Since he's so high in the polls, there should have been 10 times as many Rudy supporters as Paul supporters there, particularly since Rudy hasn't been to Georgia that much and there should be pent up candidate appearance demand. So where were they?

Media Bias
If the mainstream media would give less traditional candidates a fair shake, I might agree with you. As it is, Ron Paul supporters have no other way to get their message out other than the way they do. There is a sickening amount of bias that is a far bigger threat to free speech than anything Ron Paul supporters might do.

Add to it writers like you who use childish monikers like "paulites" or "paulpots" or likening his supporter to baboons, and your point comes across as quite hypocritical.

Kevin, Sound personal....
If thats the best negative example you can come up with then you have lost the battle and war..

And,um.... Kevin...Muslims hate us because we are free and live in America??

It's our Foreign policy, not our freedom to drink 100 types of soft drinks and our TV shows they hate..

Who's in denial Kevin? I think your sour grapes are plain to see for everyone..Keep grinding that Axe..

Well,
"I have been asked regularly of recent as to why I have such a dislike for the candidacy of Ron Paul."

It could be to do with you being an ill informed and obnoxious jerk. "Paul pot"(s) is vile and disgusting and what I would expect out of a dispensationalist. You aren't as clever as you think you are.

Thou hypocrite.

Why don't you try reading the books that Paul and Scheuer laid out for you?

PS.
Kevin says "Watch the comments grow even to this blog entry as proof"

I don't suppose Kevin ever heard the saying "There are two ways to build the tallest building in your neighborhood. One is to tear everyone else's down (Kevin's current method) or to build yours higher than everyone else's.

Oh, Kevin, very sorry we are not willing to sit and listen to your trashing a good man.

PS. Who is your candidate? Afraid to say? We thought so...

I agree with the author
I am a big Ron Paul supporter. Changed party affiliation to be able to vote in primary for him. But i have to agree that one of the biggest problems the campaign has is its supporters, some of them are very looney. I would love to be able to tell them all to just act normal and beheive and quit with the conspiracy crap, but then that would be the exact opposite of what this is all about. Luckily, the campaign is growing more and more every day and the % of loonies will naturally go down.
In any case, im excited bout these early states, and would be willing to bet the author $100 cash that he takes NH. Call me on it. :)

Paul supporters
Ron Paul supporters strike me as the same type of people as Scientologists or Lyndon Larouche-ites, in other words, conspiracy theorists and potentially dangerous nuts.
Add to this a strong dose of anti-Israel Jew-hatred and you have an unappealing gang of crackpots, to be sure.
The Republican party is, indeed, a "large tent", and will survive these nit wits.

Hasn't read constitution
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The first amendment applies to Congress (you know, the Federal legislature), not me. I can shout down anyone I want in a public place and it doesn't tell you anything about my opinion of the first amendment.

The amount of ignorance displayed about our Constitution is sickening. It's un-American to know so little about the Constitution yet has such an opinion about what violates it.

You may dislike Paul, but you don't have to make up things to criticize him.

Who IS your candidate Kevin?
Throwing stones is easy Kevin. Real leaders and academics offer solutions.

And exactly who IS your candidate, and why is he BETTER than Ron Paul?

Crickets......Crickets.......

Free Speech ?
Free speech abridgment would be legal bodies criminalizing or punishing it, not merely a washed up candidate being shouted down on a tour stop where he is shucking his unpopular platform.

Ron Paul supporters, or any others for that matter, are not "arguing for the elimination of free speech." It is insidious to even imply that, as it is to call them or their candidate "Paul Pot."

Puns incorporating genocide regimes into the names of candidates are quite juvenile as well as insulting to those who suffered under those regimes.

Stop acting childish, find out what terms like "free speech" mean, and we might let you sit at the adult table and have serious discussion.

Why dont the media stop being RUDE first
I think the media is the hypocrite.
They insult Ron Paul supporters and his campaign and ask us to sit there and listen? Remember they call him "loon", "kook", "insane"...

Sometimes you have to shout to be heard
Yes, Ron Paul supporters are making a lot of noise but the reason is simple.

They are being ignored, mocked and marginalized. This is reactionary and easy to understand.

It seems to be the only way they can be heard over the dim of a pro-Giuliani / Clinton main stream media.

Give them a break.

I don't see it...
I don't get this blog. Some Ron Paul supporters showed up to a Rudy Giuliani rally, and this equates to effectively arguing against free speech? What about pro-war folks who show up to an anti-war rally, and vice-versa?

Finding things to criticize the Ron Paul candidacy over should be much easier than this stretch of a post. This kind of stuff has been going on for as long as presidential politics was invented.

Paul, the new Perot?
I’ve been somewhat involved with Iowa politics for almost 20 years. During that time I’ve run for the legislature four times (won once), been to all the caucuses, been the Republican Party chairman in the states largest county and helped out in several other campaigns. During that time I’ve run into a lot of people who call themselves Republicans or conservatives who don’t realize that politics is the art of the possible. Many of them were disgusted with George H. W. Bush and voted for Ross Perot as a “principled” protest, giving us eight years of Bill Clinton and longer with Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer. They supported Pat Buchanan and most are now on board with Ron Paul. While I’m certainly not in total agreement with any of the candidates I have chosen the one that most closely agrees with me and has a chance to win the nomination and to be elected next November.

Ron Paul has the same chance of being the Republican nominee as Mike Gravel has of leading the Democrat ticket. After the caucuses and primaries it will be time for Ron Paul supporters to get behind whoever wins the Republican nomination and accept half to three quarters of what they want rather than cry foul, take their marbles and go home, as many did in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

If you cant attack the guy you attack his supporters. You are baseing you dislike of him on his supporters;
Well Mr Christian McCullough, Should non christians regect christianity because of a few ignorant vocal christians who they disagree with?
Somthing tells me you would take issue with that.
You my brother are a hypocrate.

Apologies to Al Czervik

He called me a baboon, thinks I'm his wife.

None of the pro-war pundits can reverse themselves on the ill-concieved and executed "war on terror" lest they risk losing ratings and book sales. That's why they attack Ron Paul and his supporters. But that's O.K. we will have the last laugh.

It's very simple, McCullough:
It's called the Heckler's Veto.

And all of the other GOP candidates, the neocon big government corporatist morons deserve all of it. Look at them: a lousy actor; a woman-obsessed mayor who beds women and wears their clothes; a tax-and-spend Arkansas governor preacher screecher, an addled POW senator; a used-car salesman trying to buy the election, most lately by having his supporters vote Chicago-style in Florida; three also-rans.

Against that is one man, a principled conservative-libertarian who believes strong national defense begins at home and with peace, has been married for 50+ years, is a great-grandfather, delivered 4000 babies with no abortions, hates taxes, understands economics better than anyone in DC, and believes that the federal government focus should be minimal with the states doing the bulk of the work.

This is why we support him. He speaks to Main Street USA values: peace, prosperity, and freedom. Those other guys: international warfare, class warfare, and economic slavery/freedom suppression.

It really is *that* simple.

Stop Your Whining
If Rudy could garner the real world support he claims then the Ron Paul Supporters would be drowned out.

The issue is that you and the media types filter the data to support your foregone conclusion.

Objectivity seems to be impossible for some even in the presence of overwhelming evidence.

I suppose you would prefer Bankrupting the country so Dubai could buy it before coming to your senses and realizing that the Empire is not sustainable.

Sell us to slavery rather than protect our own boarders. If we are so at threat from abroad why are our boarders still wide open?

There is more to reality than you would care to include in your data set.

Kevin is obviously
I suspect Kevin McCullough is really a flaming liberal. I went and read some of his other blog posts and he definitely sounds like it. He even "looks" like it.

Expecting him to ever give someone like Ron Paul, who would destroy his chances for socialism, a break would be silly.

Kevin, you have got to be the most childish blogger on TownHall.

Get a life; become a conservative.

Take 3/4 And Go Home?
"After the caucuses and primaries it will be time for Ron Paul supporters to get behind whoever wins the Republican nomination and accept half to three quarters of what they want rather than cry foul, take their marbles and go home, as many did in 1992, 1996 and 2000."

How wonderfully naive. My money says that if (and granted, it's probably likely) that Dr. Paul doesn't win the nomination he'll be placed on the ticket as the Libertarian candidate. Some of us who believe he's the finest Presidential candidate of our lifetimes will vote for him as a Libertarian, some won't. But to believe that each Paul backer will line up along party lines if (when?) he fails to win the nomination is the height of ignorance.

I realize this is off subject but I find the subject of this post deliciously ironic. While I don't agree with the actions of the Ron Paul supporters it has to be noted that what they were doing was *exercising* their right of free speech. Yet the author somehow concludes this is an implicit attack on freedom of speech? He might not be "acting like [a baboon]" but he apparently thinks like one.
