"That's MISTER frontrunner to you..."

I know that other polls had him up earlier than this one. But Rasmussen is the poll to watch - most accurate, best methods - and now he confirms it:

HUCK 28%, Romney 25%... Rudy 12%, Fred 11%...

Compared to our prior survey, the trend is unmistakable-Huckabee has gone up and just about everybody else has gone down. Huckabee's 28% support represents a twelve point increase from a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted earlier in the month. Romney is down four points while Giuliani and Thompson are each down three points from the previous survey. John McCain is down two points and earns just 4% support. Ron Paul picked up a point and is now at the 5% level.

Forty-eight percent of Evangelical Christians support Hucakbee. That's more than all the other candidates combined. Romney attracts 16% of the Evangelical vote.

Darn those evil evangelicals...

repositioning
The latest Ras IA poll has Huck ahead by 3 however, Romney is running second nationally.

Romney may need to shift to a more national campaign. One that blends the slingshot strategy with a national following. Romney has a natural following nationally of about 30%. However, he has to make the case to get it.

Romney needs to tie Huckabee directly to Rudy and position them as a team. That forces the Religious right to choose between Romney and Rudy with Huckabee as the useless caboose in the VP slot.

Huckabee can also be positioned as the anti Mormon candidate. He himself positioned that way before the straw poll.

Many Huckabee supporters are simply comfortable with Huckabee. However, there is a spectrum among the Evangelicals on Mormonism and Romney. Romney has the support of many Evangelicals. On the other end of that spectrum there are extremely bitter anti Mormons. They are very similar to the KKK in some aspects. Romney needs to use their anti Mormon bigotry against them. Most of them have moved to Huckabee's camp. That makes Huckabee the candidate of the anti Mormons. Huckabee can't have it both ways either he is or is not the candidate of the anti Mormons. He needs to be forced to declare on this issue.

The religion issue can be played both ways. You can get into real trouble for being too religious and you can get into real trouble by being a religious bigot. The biggest problem is that Huckabee is really running for VP. That leaves Rudy free, out of the religious food fight. If religion is going to be a deciding factor Rudy needs to be drawn into this fight on the basis of his lack of religion. He is the anti religion candidate. He tries to avoid any discussion of religion. Rudy needs to be forced to answer questions on this.

In the long run it is a Romney vs Rudy with Huck as VP race. It is time for Romney to adapt to this new development.

His adjustments will determine if we are stuck with Rudy and Huck or Romney and somebody.

Mike Huckabee
Umm, I think Mike Huckabee's status has more to do with his tax plan. He's got my vote, and I'm definitely in the LMTHA Conservative camp.

Margin of error
4 or 5 of the latest IA polls have had Huckabee within the margin of error. It has only been a matter of time when one of the polls put Huckabee ahead.

This may be good for Romney in the longer run. It reduces expectations.

The biggest problem with Huckabee is that he replaces Fred. Fred entered the race as the anti Rudy. He has failed miserably. Huckabee is Rudy's VP that is a far different set of circumstances for Rudy as he move into the South and Super T.

Huckabee can not beat Rudy. Worse yet he has no intention of doing anything more than hurting Romney so Rudy can win.

Fred had the money and the personality to hurt Rudy. Huckabee is joined at the hip with Rudy.

The religious right now have a clear choice of supporting Romney or accepting Rudy with Huck as VP.

Mike Huckabee has the right message
He is a independent Conservative. That means he doesn't rely on a team of advisers to tell him what to say to which group on a particular day. He hasn't changed in order for President as some politicians have done. He's always been Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Pro-Traditional Marriage. But he's not angry about it. I really love that. He has compassion for people who are struggling to better themselves. He wasn't born into wealth.

For most Americans, who are middle class, Mike Huckabee is one of us. He relates to us and we like that. Mike Huckabee has all the attributes that a Presidential candidate needs. He has all the attributes I'm looking for in a candidate.

It is unfair to label a group as evil
Simply because it is dominated by mental midgets. Go easy on the evanjellycals, Kevin.
