Of all the reasons I've heard that have led me to hate this single attempt at granting Amnesty for Aliens, one I've not heard a great deal about hit me while I was laying in bed just waking up a few minutes ago.
If we haven't been able to enforce the very few limited laws we have on the books already as it pertains to the national security of our borders, how will it be possible to enforce all the tiny aspects of this new legislation?
It seems to me that when you write new laws to try to make up the gap that is left from not enforcing previous laws - that you've already lost the battle.
Now that the bill is online, feel free to work your way through it, and thank NZ Bear for leaving us the ability to comment on it section by section.
There is one critical aspect of this bill that makes its promises on border security much more credible than anything Congress has promised in previous immigration bills: the triggers.
Previous border security bills -- as long ago as the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act and as recent as the 2006 Secure Fence Act -- have simply authorized resources and counted on Congress to pay for them later. All too frequently, however, Congress has not come through with the money. For those concerned about border security, the triggers are far superior. This time, rather than simply authorizing resources and hoping for the best, the bill would delay implementation of the temporary worker (Y) program and the Z visa until the border measures are paid for and implemented on the ground.
The triggers include increasing the size of the Border Patrol, increasing border fencing and vehicle barriers at the Southern border, and having established worksite enforcement tools, including an Employment Eligibility Verification System (EEVS).
What will make these triggers effective is that the system is set up so nearly everyone has an incentive to ensure that border security targets are met: (1) All who are strong on border security, whether they support the Y and Z visas or not, will favor beefing up security in the ways specified in the bill. (2) Those who do not favor stronger border security but support the Y and/or Z visas can be expected to back efforts to meet the benchmarks so that the Y program can begin and so that the Z's can get out of probationary status and into permanent status.
The Administration believes that groups (1) and (2) constitute an overwhelming majority of those on Capitol Hill.
Accordingly, the triggers in the Senate bill are as close to an iron-clad promise on border security as it is possible for Congress to make at this stage. That is the reason why this bill is different.

This Government, and specifically this President have no history of wanting to solve this problem. Besides advocating law breaking by giving illegals access to citizenship, money has been put aside for over a year for a border fence, result.... 2 miles built. Before you assault the middle class with a bill that totally ignores the middle class, you should show that the border IS contained, and remove illegals that have committed crimes. The administration's total unwillingness to even deport criminals is a sign that this bill has no credence. Also, how can bring a bill to othe floor that has not told the TAXPAYER the cost involved with your action. What if your estimates are low, and their are 30 million instead of 12 million? I guess we are stuck with the cost right? As a Republican voter, I am appalled by this action, and further more, I will be assisting in the removal of all Senators and Congressmen on board with this. My allegience to the party is no more as this bill was an ambush on the American people. The President's cohort Mr. Kennedy has for 40 years been on a mission to enact this type of law which is totally against American values of law and order. Do citizens now get to not pay taxes for five years as a break? Of course not, WE must obey the law or pay. This action basically says our laws do not apply to anyone but the Citizens of this country. I guess we were an easy target, we obey the law, and never raise a fuss about anything. The middle class was once the pride of America, and what made this country stand apart from others, and former Presidents understood this. For the last 40 years, this has been attacked, and this bill WILL unleash THE silent majority who make this engine run. I hope Mr. Bush is happy with this because I know Mr. Kennedy is. This action WILL break the Republican Party to shreds, because unlike our Politicians, we actually value the rule of law and what the meaning of being an American means, and it will all show up in the 2006 ballot box.
Yours Truly,
A VERY ANGRY CITIZEN

This "Comprehensive Sellout of the American Citizen" will have consequences you have not even considered, not that you care.
I have been an active civic minded citizen for 47 years. Flying my flag on Flag day, July Fourth, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc. Standing for the national anthem. Serving on juries when requested. Serving on community boards. Voting in every election.
Our Constitutional Republic rests on the premise of consent of the citizens. If you succeed in jamming this amnesty down the throats of the American citizens you will have broken the contract. I will henceforth consider myself just another permanent resident. All of my positive citizenship activities will stop. I will remove the U.S. flags from my home and vehicles. I will ignore whatever laws get in the way of my "having a better life", just like the illegal aliens. I will dodge jury duty. Shade on my taxes any time I can. No more Good Samaratin acts. No more litter patrols. No more volunteering. No more charitable donations. No more USO donations. My son will not serve in your Armed Forces. I will only be looking out for myself, just like the cheap labor importers and hispandering vote whores. God help the U.S.A. |

If he gets his amnesty, he will be remembered as the last Republican President. The GOP will go the way of the Whigs and whatever party arises to replace it will never dislodge the Democrat majority, thanks to his stupidity of importing voters for the Democrats. He may go down in history as the man who simultaneously destroyed his party and his country. Of course that would be in the underground English language history books. The official Spanish language history books will laud him as the man who delivered El Norte to La Raza. (the Race in English) |
