Damage
As much damage as W has done to the word and meaning of "Christian," he has done just as much harm to the word "Conservative."

McCain is a true Conservative (note the all important upper case "C") in a world of Neo-Con freakazoids. His stance on this ridiculous idea to amend the US Constituion is fitting.

As an almost-80-year-old, I fondly remember the beautiful days of Barry Goldwater, when he showed us all what a Conservative could do and be.

Our current disasterous President is an example of all that is wrong with the misue of a previously beautiful word.

Get married, boys! Get married, ladies! More power to ya'!

The Goat is right
If we start amending the constitution simply to appease religious groups without any rational, objective justification that holds any water, we're walking down a very dangerous path! To any rational, clear-thinking grown-up, this is nothing more than a silly wedge issue that does not merit a move as radical as tampering with the constitution.

The gays are not going to come steal your children in the middle of the night, the country is not going to turn gay, the sky is not going to fall. Nothing is going to happen to you if homosexuals get married. This "issue" doesn't deserve attention from any serious politician.

It always amuses me that when liberals want to list a "conservative" they admire, it's alway Barry "44 State Loss" Goldwater. McCain was a close second, until he got the GOP nomination, and became the anti-Christ, preventing the Messiah from taking his true place in the cosmos...
