With gas prices all over the country dropping under $2 and the chill of winter setting in, people's passion to "go green" is cooling off.

According to an international poll "there is both growing public reluctance to make personal sacrifices and a distinct lack of enthusiasm for the major international efforts now underway to battle climate change."

Maybe it's because people are realizing that our energy policies shouldn't be determined by universal councils or treaties. Or they realize that global warming has been perpetuated through fear tactics designed to monopolize the market by creating a whole new line of all-green products. Or that "the use of ethanol as a subsititute for gasoline proved to be neither a sustainable nor an environmentally friendly option considering ecological footprint values, and both net energy and CO2 offset considerations seemed relatively unimportant compared to the ecological footprint." (Marcelo Dias de Oliveira)

"Less than half of those surveyed, or 47 per cent, said they were prepared to make personal lifestyle changes to reduce carbon emissions, down from 58 per cent last year."

It seems that when real problems occur (a struggling economy, terrorist attacks), we are able to better discern what really demands our attention and concern.

It's science, not belief.
The trouble is, global warming is going to happen, to one degree or another. We understand the science well enough to predict trouble: we've doubled the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and we know how the greenhouse effect works. Sure, there are uncertainties left, but do you really want to gamble with your grandchildren?

Now, it's possible that there may be technological solutions for global warming, such as fusion power, or whatnot. So, we might be able to get away without lifestyle changes, but it is not a certain bet. None of the technologies that we'd need are known to be good enough. And, some much-hyped ideas, like corn-derived ethanol are now known to be pretty much useless.

So, a struggling economy may be this year's problem, but it hasn't made the longer-range problem go away.

There is corelation between a rise inn temperature and a rise in co2. Unfortunately for the "Global Warming Alarmists" it appears that they got the cause and effect backwards.

After some astro-physicists noted that ice was melting on Mars at the same rate as it was on Earth, they suspected an error in Algare's theory. They did not see SUVs being driven by terrible Americans on Mars so they looked elsewhere.

They noticed a corelation between sun flares and a rise in temperature. [imagine that, the sun controlling our temperature!] Through experiments, they found that a rise in temperature will raise the content of CO2 in our atmosphere [though is still isn't more than a trace gas].

Let's work on the many things we Know the exact cause and effect and CAN fix. We are wasting too much time, money, and brain power on things that are out of our reach. Let's work on what is right in front of us, that we know what to do and how to do it. We can do that in a responsible manner that protects the planet. No need to go looking for doom.

Conserve
What exactly do conservatives want to conserve, if not God's planet?

Conspiracy Theories are all the same
"global warming has been perpetuated through fear tactics designed to monopolize the market by creating a whole new line of all-green products."

Right, and the elders of zion are behind all of it. They also faked the moon landing and blew up the World Trade Center, and they're hiding the truth about alien visitors.
