It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what
both sides of the partisan aisle would prefer Governor Spitzer to do - LEAVE. The editorial pages in all the NY papers agree today.
I mean for crying out loud - if the complaints are true - the most recent incident occurred about a month ago. And he once busted two different prostitution rings.
I wrote yesterday
that the delay in making a statement to the public was likely due to his trying to configure a way to hold on to office. The more time goes by the more likely he will believe his chances to be able to remain.
This after his drivers' license initiative for illegals raised the collective ire of the voters of his state leaves him with little if any political capital.
Well today the State Senate is sending the message that his ride will be a bumpy one should he not decide to do the right thing.
They have given him 36 hours to resign or face impeachment.
Unlike recent Washington congressional members who HAVE survived similar scandals, I do not believe Spitzer will be able to raise the public support necessary to hold on to power.
But we'll see... the clock is ticking.
