Darwin deepens faith? The Times of London publishes today one of the more ludicrous pieces ever claimed by a "conventional Christian." It hails 2009 as the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, and the 150th anniversary of his work Origin of the Species. Michael Reiss is the author and his biography according to the column's slug is Professor of Science Education and Assistant Director at the Institute of Education, University of London, and a priest in the Church of England.
Odd... His emphasis in the piece is to attempt to claim that Darwin's unproven theory somehow deepens Christian faith (his brand of it anyway...) His main argument of support for marrying the two is focus on the "decentering" of humanity (as distinct and of more value than animals) and of the "upcentering" of animals (bringing them closer on par with humanity in terms of moral value). His primary quote that he pulls for support of this "Darwin deepening faith" sham is from Richard Dawkins--an avowed Atheist. And his conclusion, as is often the case with elitist academics, is to reject the scriptural text. It might also be pointed out that with the previously mentioned four points of worldview one can claim Christianity AND simultaneously claim evolution, abortion rights (because human life is not distinct from animals), the rejection of God, AND assert that the Bible is wholly unnecessary for guidance in life's questions. The problem was and is today that Darwin was a fraud, his theory is yet unproven, and with the exception of "evolutionary process" being able to change existing species, there has never since Darwin's theory was openly stated been the creation of a species that did not previously exist. And so says this Berkley professor of science... This should be reason enough for American schools to open up the science debate in the classrooms of today to allow analytical criticism of Darwin's theory. But by continuing to teach Darwin as gospel, the academic community can continue to also open up doubts as to the validity of scripture, and of scripture's God. "Christians" that do so can argue away sin, the foundation of reconciliation - Jesus Christ, and ultimately the need for repentance, forgiveness and salvation. And they do so knowingly...

"claim that Darwin's unproven theory somehow deepens Christian faith"
and
"The problem was and is today that Darwin was a fraud, his theory is yet unproven, and with the exception of "evolutionary process" being able to change existing species, there has never since Darwin's theory was openly stated been the creation of a species that did not previously exist."
Just show you have no idea what you are talking about, are ignorant of science and can't be taken seriously on the subject.
We know the world is billions of years old, not a mere 6000 as stated in teh Bible. We know that life has changed over time. (Uh, Kev, how do you explain Dinosaurs? Noah didn't have room for them on the Ark?)
Darwin's theory does have gaps. The theory of Abiogenesis, for instance, is kind of weak. But denying the science because it undermines part of your bible just makes you look silly.
Let's say that we get scientific evidence that Darwin was absolutly right. (We already have, but that's another discussion.) Does that really diminish Jesus message in any way? |
|
Why not take on the biology textbook? After all, it teaches that humans are incapable of reproducing asexually and that the deceased can't possibly rise from the dead. Wouldn't that also open up doubts as to the validity of Christian scripture?
If we're going to "open up the science debate" to talking snakes and magic apples, then there is absolutely no reason why we can't open up the science debate to bigfoot, unicorns, and the Loch Ness Monster.
Of course, you are still free to glean your values and morals from the beliefs of a primitive Bronze-age culture, but I would say that if scientific theories are enough to taint your morality, then you did not have much of a morality to begin with.
Only the last line of this blog has any truth to it: "And they do so knowingly..." |

Tell me how evolution has produced a new species since Darwin's day...
Changes within a species doesn't count...
Go...
We're waiting... |
|
Please also document just ONE of the trillions of links necessary for just the proteins in the human body to have come about.
In fact just document for me just ONE link that has been proven beyond doubt of any of the family groups.
You can't...
You know it...
Just one more reason Darwinian theory is a fraud. |
|
|
Being the genius that you are you do know that the popular biology textbooks are written from a pro-Darwinian perspective... don't you? |
|
I'm the first to admit that Abiogenesis is a real problem in Darwinian theory. In fact, many Darwinists like to avoid the subject.
As far as how many species have "emerged" since Darwin's day, the process of natural selection would take a lot longer than 150 years in most species. We do see changes within microbes, where new diseases appear all the time.

I believe the concept of the sad and unproven and meaningless diatribe 'theory' of Darwin's Evolutionism... which can be seen and realized as reassuring the "teetering Christian's" or believer's faith is actually true.
The more ammo that goes against our belief in "Creationism" (aka GOD) that is proven wrong or totally unfounded (such as Darwinism) makes faith in our Creator that much more powerful.
We all love to say I TOLD YOU SO.. Especially when it is while we are stomping some modern democrat voting athiestic, abortionistic- baby killer's broken face into the horse manuer, and human excement covered out house entrance somewhere in the muddy and bloody bile covered alleys behind the streets of old Laredo.
((Or anywhere else for that matter)).
Okay.. I need a chill pill, but you get the idea. |
|
Actually Kevin... I think after watching modern day football and basketball player's antics and the crimes these goons commit.. We may have found Darwin's missing link! |

You think the way to win arguments is to beat up people who disagree with you when you lack the intellectual firepower to make your case?
There's a place for people like you, and it's called "prison". |
|
"You think the way to win arguments is to beat up people who disagree with you when you lack the intellectual firepower to make your case?"
Hey, that's your game plan. Only you called your "Darwinstic approach". Good luck with that, I'm sure it has served you well in life.
"There's a place for people like you, and it's called "prison"."
Prison? Maybe later, for now I just hope you get the boot from TH with all the hateful bile you spew towards those that disagree with you.
|

"So every time I see a Bible thumper who says that he wants to get a kid to "pray himself straight", I just want to beat that person with a rubber hose."
"So, JL You think the way to win arguments is to beat up people who disagree with you when you lack the intellectual firepower to make your case?

Sounds like if you don't get your anger issues under control, you might end in prison.

Hey,Mormon-stalkerboy, I finished with you a long time ago.... Look at the nice present I left you on your blog. |
|
You said you would "break me in half" and told me you were "6' 270",
...wanted to show me your "pyth6on"
I told you that obesity and diabetes were no laughing matter,
You told me you didn't have diabetes but did have a weight loss surgery.
I said that you appeared to be overweight, you told me that since football players weighed more than you and weren't fat that I shouldn't assume that you were fat.
You admitted that you are not fit as a football player.
Like I originally told you, you are a coward,
you are angry,
you are using your weight as a defense mechanism to lash out at others.
you are a pervert for wanting to show me your dingy.
You lied about your health.
You are not the pinnacle of health that you said you were.
I have told you that you need to control your weight as it affects your
health, happiness, stress, anger, and ability to get a job, keep a job, or get promoted.
It's not about people who believe in "sky pixies" or follow the teachings of "sheepherders"....
its about your own issues with God, your lack of self esteem, and your inability to control your weight.

Let me know, buddy...
I don't have an issue with God. Having an issue with God is like having an issue with the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus.
Most of your other conjectures about my personal life are laughable.
I don't make conjectures about your life, beyond my boilerplate assumption that as a Mormon, you are probably incredibly stupid. I haven't seen an intelligent Mormon yet.
My suspicion is born out by the fact you almost never really answer any intellectual point I make. You just don't have the capicity, and in that regard, I truly pity you. |
|
"So, in retrospect, the rubbber hose is probably not a good solution. I think full scale re-education camps might be in order."
Has Rahm Emanuel contacted you for a position for his mandatory basic training to teach "what it means to be an American"?
You'd get active duty pay, course, the early morning PT...6'... 270...ouch.
That's actual work, you can still work within the propaganda dept. |
|
I thought my job would be to walk around with a truncheon beating the stupid.
You know, when I hear someone quoting the Book of Mormon, hit him over the knees with lead pipe.
Seriously, I don't know what the cure for religious stupidity is... I mean, Gene Roddenberry imagined there would be a day where we'd outgrow the need for invisible sky pixies, but I'm a little less hopeful. I think we are weak bunch of monkey descendents who still cower at the sound of lightening, even if we understand what it is....
Sadly, picking up the paper, I read every day where some guy with a Bible or a Koran is killing other people who read a different holy book, and I just have to shake my head and wonder if we are even going to survive as a species.... Darwinism indeed. |
|
"Most of your other conjectures about my personal life are laughable."
Which ones?
Telling me you would "whip out your "pyth6on"?
Your "Darwinistic approach" to life and "Chicago southside streetfighter" toughness?
Telling me you were 6' 270 and could break me in half?
surgery to control your weight?
Anger at God for taking your parents when you were so young? |
|

Yet you want to "beat up people who disagree with you when you lack the intellectual firepower to make your case?"....and think "they" should go to prison.
You're a prison for thee, but not me kinda guy.

"Well, whenever you think you're man enuf Let me know, buddy..."
Man enough for what....?

lame...
I mean, seriously, do you have a file on everything I've said here under all three screennames? I mean, dude, that sounds a bit obsessive. That an your inability to tell a comment made seriously as one said as a joke. I guess that's why Donny Osmand is about as funny as Mormons get.
I honestly think we need to fix religious fanatics. Let's be honest, guy, 9/11 was a "Faith-based Initiative". I mean, seriously, flying a plane into a building or your cult spending millions to take wedding rings away from lesbians, it's all the same sickness. "I'm going to screw up your life because my invisible sky pixie says so." If you didn't call it a religion, they'd throw you in a looney bin.
I just wish I had a cure for it. I've cured myself of it, thankfully, having been brought up in that kind of religious stupidity... I wish I could share that cure with others.... |

You love the attention, we could the discussion to your blog, but then, you'd erase it, because the "whole class" won't come along to join you. |
|
As long as we are on the subject, who is more violent, God or Satan..
Well, lookingat the bible, you can estimate God has killed Millions. The flood, the plagues of Egypt, the ordained slaughters in teh Holy Land. God is a real sociopath.
now, how many people has Satan killed? Oh, that's right, Ten. That's it.
http://dwindlinginunbelief.blogspot.com/2007/01/how-many-ha s-god-killed-complete-list.html
Now, poor old Satan, he only killed 10 people, in the Book of Job, in a bet with God.
So who is supposed to be "evil" here again? |
|
I'm happy to discuss things on my blog related to what I wrote. You didn't do that, you decided to continue conversations from other threads there, which would have been a real WTF moment for anyone joining in...
|
|
"That an your inability to tell a comment made seriously as one said as a joke."
You mean the time when you compared Mormons to Nazis...Brigham Young to Bin Laden... or the time when the father in law of the US men's volley ball team was murdered and you thought it was OK because he was Mormon....?
|
|
"which would have been a real WTF moment for anyone joining in..."
Exactly, you love the attention...you believe that you are the smartest person in the world, TH for that matter, and assume that everyone would be following your commentary. |

A little over two hours ago you left this little gem. See if you can find any irony.

Me- Yeah, those things are damned funny. Except to Mormons, but that's what makes them funny. I mean, I'd make fun of the Amish, but they don't have computers.
Dude, you seriously need to grow a sense of humor.
(Incidently, it was the father of a US female volleyball player who was killed, and she wasn't a Mormon, and all I said is that I didn't feel bad about it. Frankly, if I went into crying fits every time someone I didn't know died, I'd be a basket case. I mean, if you are going to keep detailed stalking records, at least get the quotes right, dude.)

Me- You know, people are probably asking, "Who the Heck is White Saladdressing?"
I don't think I'm the smartest person in the world. The smartest person on TH would be easier, but only because it seems to be inhabited by reactionary neanderthals who don't understand they just took the worst beating in electoral history since 1932.
Guy, you are really becoming my Favorite Mormon. I mean, NoCents and MaineCon have their moments, but you are the best for pure comedy. (wipes tear from eye).

Most "convententional Christans" are not threatened by science.
Most "born again/evangelicals" are terrified by critical thought. |
