Keep your eye on the ball... I know Drudge has had it splashed has his top headline for a few hours but McCain supporters should not draw great encouragement from the now 5pt lead McCain has in the newest poll...It is meaningless for two reasons... 1. It is ZOGBY a pollster whose actual record is reliably one thing... unreliable.2. It is August. And while trends moving in McCain's direction are important, needed, and good. (Kerry and Gore both lost ground in August.) The margin in this race is far too close to allow a five point lead to lull anyone into thinking that the corner has been turned. The truly most important thing that will happen this week is the selection of the Veeps. I personally don't think Obama will take any of the "four big names" that keep being floated. And if McCain wishes to undo all this momentum that he has gained since his strong showing Saturday night - the best thing he could do is pick a running mate that would be in conflict with his own positions on life, marriage, taxes, national security, etc... And picking someone who once voted for a nuclear freeze, and supports Obama's Freedom of Choice Act, is probably the dumbest thing he could do...
VP choice matters? What a load.
McCain could pick Gloria Steinem as his running mate, and you and yours would still pull the Republican lever.
Why? Simple answer: none of you on "Thee" Right can stand McCain, never have and never will.
You won't be voting for McCain -- you'll be voting against Obama. |

You obviously know nothing of the conservative mind set. The VP choice is very important and there is a lot more at stake than simply "voting against Obama" although that is a valid enough reason for pulling the lever all on it's own anyway.
If you believe choosing Ridge or Lieberman would not make any difference to conseravtives then, once again, you have proven that such comprehension of conservative issues is way above your pay grade.

I wish McCain would shock all of us and pick Huckbee. That would be a pleasant surprise. That would be a surefire way to get Conservatives who may sit at home on voting day out to the polls. I am definitely going to vote against Obama, but someone like Huckabee would help me lean more towards voting for McCain. By the way, did anyone see Bill Maher on Larry King last night--it was disgusting. |

Nobody's going to celebrate a single poll. However, taken in context with other polls, like Gallup, LA Times, Rasmussen, etc. the overall trend obviously is that Obambi is losing steam quickly ... considering that the Obambi Fabulous Mystery Tour of Europe and the Middle East was supposed to have cemented his command of the race, by proving his "ready to be Commander in Chief" bona fides, obviously fizzled, big time.
As to McCain's VP pick, way too many conservatives (and not necessarily Republicans) have been going off the deep end this week fretting about Lieberman or Ridge as the pick. Chill out! React once there is something to react to. As of this morning, that's nada, zip, nothing at all.
McCain will make his pick, and it'll range somewhere from utter disaster to snoozer to delirious celebration, and probably all three, depending upon who you are and what your "issues" are.

You presume to be a Conservative? If so, welcome to my quickly dwindling club.
I suspect, however, that you are a Neo-Con like most Bush apologists.
Regardless of your stripes, you will vote against Obama and pull the Republican lever, regardless of the candidates on it. |

I think it's a shame people say Huck 'lost his chance of being veep' when he made the joke at the NRA gathering about Obama diving to the floor at the sound backstage.
I think that's ridiculous, but at the same time, I have not heard his name mentioned in quite a while now and think it would be tragic if that were to be the reason he was not named Mc C's veep. I feel he would do a wonderful job, and would garner a lot of support for Mc Cain.
As far as Maher - YUK! PUKE! I can not stand that man and have to stop short of saying the 'H' word where he's concerned. He gives the word 'buffoon' a whole new meaning. |

Made an interesting point regarding Sarah Palin, some potential evidence - the McCain-Palin domain name was reserved and it looks it is being prepared to be a website for that ticket. It could also be a farce and was reserved by somebody else, but I didn't see that when trying to type in other names on his short list.

I'm curious what you think of that potential pick.
Comment back here or on the blog post I did yesterday on this - http://caffeinatedthoughts.com/?p=1220 |

It seems you misunderstood me about Maher. I agree with you about Maher--I said the whole show was disgusting. I generally watch him when he is on Larry King so that I will know better how to direct my prayers for his salvation. |

Mitt Romney Would seal the election for John McCain. Where ever I go people tell me that he makes the best choice for VP. There is not a Democrat out there that could beat Governor Romney in the Vice Presidential debate. Nor is there another candidate as well prepared to fix our economy. I so hope that John McCain realizes that Mitt would be his best choice.

You simply CANNOT have national security if you will not defend your own borders or enforce your own laws. Foreign nationals numbering in the thousands are entering our country at will daily. John McCain has done and will do NOTHING to stop it. Don't believe me? Ask Juan Hernandez! |

only wants to see JSM's defeat. VP has nothing positive to offer this election cycle. Take his defeatism and despair with a grain of salt. |

Joanne, how right you are. Mitt Romney has it all! Brains, squeaky clean, attractive, great speaker, economical wizard, executive success, traditional family man, so get over the Mormon thing! Lots of money to help on the campaign trail, sincerity and humbleness! McCain wins with Romney, lets hope John know this?! Ex Democrat |

The issue is::: energy, energy, energy, energy,
Energy keeps the company doors open the machines running:
the lights on, the kids warm, and transportation to get to your jobs:
WITHOUT energy: Affordable energy: your employer cannot keep the doors open:
Obama will tax, regulate, energy starve every business OUT OF BUSINESS
Then reach into the pockets of Bill gates, the Google kids, the Senior's investments, retirement plans to redistribute in welfare payouts. |

Gloria Steinem as McCain's VP? That's the best laugh I've had all day. Too bad I'm not better at photoshop! |

we've all heard the expression re: "How good it feels when we stop beating our head against the wall"....getting over my old liberal 'illness', was the best thing that ever happened to me. Conservatives are not evil rich men , and their goose stepping religious right wing cohorts who wish to oppress the disenfranchised. Being conservative has to do with reality...the reality of earning a living, managing one's morals and finances prudently; actually having a savigns account; and actually owning shares in a successful company-which is our right as free citizens. This business of "keep hope alive/I have a dream" is all nice and fine; but none of the ambitious, elitists we elect can offer 'free'anything. Obama does not have and never will have a magic wand that will make all this expensive health care, housing, and energy get cheap overnight, and 'turn this pumpkin into a pearly chariot which will take our Cinderella butts to the Ball". Reality will get in the way. Starry eyed, youthful optimism will simply not connect with reality. This is not a Disney movie. What we all need, urgently, and desperately need, is the wisdom of experience that McCain possesses the way Bill Gates possesses philanthropic largesse. For the love of God, puh-lease-no stuttering ( indecisive ) young whippersapper laywers with 'training wheels' on.I don't care what color he is.
If McCain chooses Romney or Sarah Palin, I'll be happy...especially if he chooses Gov. Palin...that would be brilliant; and clearly demonstrate his wisdom. We'll all see today! |
