Hugh's opening statement of analysis on Mitt's SPEECH!

Mitt Romney's "Faith in America" speech was simply magnificent, and anyone who denies it is not to be trusted as an analyst.

Hugh - that's simply ridiculous! ALL of the pundits above said something in a major or minor way that was negative/critical of the speech. It wasn't Mitt at his best. But it wasn't a big negative either.

Whereas his speech at Values Voters was brilliant both in tone and depth. In fact Mitt got greater response at Values Voters than Huckabee - who was in fact THE evangelical at THE evangelical event!

And as I pointed out in my very MILD critique of what I believed to be the weak spot in the speech you hard core partisans had better stop the "you can't be trusted if you disagree with me" or "you should vote only based on this criteria" or "you're a big fat poopie-head" stuff.

For the record - I have NOT endorsed a candidate - and am STILL not sure I've even decided upon one.

I don't take it well when I'm told that I'm a less trustworthy observer of events than someone else - merely because I didn't see it through the same glasses as someone who is at best - a tad bit beholden to the candidate in question...

Now, boys...
remember that the Marquis of Queensbury rules apply here. However, you are limited to dipping MKH's pigtails in the inkwell.

Hugh is growing tiresome
Hugh has increased the tempo of his Romney boosting and other candidate bashing in the last couple of weeks. As a Romney supporter, I don't mind the boosting, but the bashing is getting quite old.

It is a disappointing development, I think, and has made me reluctant to listen to his show anymore. I have no interest in hearing him go ballistic at another caller who questions Romney's credentials or Hugh's blatant bias.

Sorry Kevin!
I usualy agree with you, but (for once)I agree with Hugh.

I was furious with MKH when she thought it was funny to make fun of Evangelical Chirstians.

Fred Barnes lost me when he thought Comprehensive Immigration Reform was just dandy.

I thought the speech was great. I really cannot figure out why there are conservatives that think it is cool to nitpick our own. Let the liberals do that, then point the good on our side.

Offensive
I did not find anything offensive in the speech. I thought it was very well thought out and written. It is a great speech and the right speech at this time.

Romney needed a drink of water that he did not have and he stepped on 3 or 4 applause lines. Lines that he did not anticipate as applause lines.

Romney will need to give another speech in the future. That will be in the future. This one should do until after NH. The next task at hand is to beat Huck in IA, then McCain in NH and then MI and then Huck in SC.

In the short run it is a Romney Huck race. Rudy is not looking good in any early primary state and will soon falter in FL. The big question is Fred and if he will hold up in the South or be replaced by Huck and Romney?

Fred's national strategy appears to be gone and his regional strategy is in trouble.

At worst Huck and Fred divide the South while putting it in reach of Romney.

"The Speech"
I was blown away by Mitt's speech. I can't believe that my fellow conservatives are picking it apart. Mitt put himself out there for us all to see. He was presidential and passionate. He showed the American spirit. Now I must go to donate money to his campaign.

Sorry Kevin
Hugh knows lots of "serious" people and so, his word is law. You want to challenge Hugh? Do you know any serious peple? Have you written books that are ranked #1070000 in the amazon book list?

King Liberal...
Why don't you read a little bit son... You might learn some things...

Rudy gets NO pass from me.

I started the "Anyone But Rudy" club. And having one mild criticism of a speech that didn't need to be given to begin with may make me an idiot in your book. But I guess its a good thing that I dont live to think like you.

It's a mediocre speech,
but nooooobody adores mediocrity like Hugh.

Good points, Kevin.

The Speech
Mr. McCullough,
You seem to be missing the forest for the trees. You have one marginal complaint about a sentence in Mr. Romney's speech and claim it will offend many people, and that the sentence will be analyzed closely. Yet, you seem to miss or ignore the overall theme of the speech in order to offer your little criticism. Also, Mr. Hewitt did not say the speech was flawless and anyone who disagrees is untrustworthy. Mr. Hewitt obviously really liked the theme of the speech and did not feel the need to critique small portions.
As a person of faith, I am glad to see a leader understand and articulate the important role faith plays in our nation's history and future. Is it the greatest political speech this decade, or this election cycle? I do not know and I think only time will tell. Is its message and importance lessened by your nominal criticism? I think you missed the point. Too bad. Perhaps missing the main theme is what might make you an untrustworthy analyst.

I concur with Tim
I lean toward Romney, but Hugh's constant shilling for Romney and his contentious attitude toward all of the other Republican candidates (except Giuliani) is growing tiresome.

I found it especially offensive when Hugh quoted from George Will's attack on Huckabee. Will's attack basically lampooned Huckabee's evangelical convictions. Hugh rails against anyone who betrays the slightest whiff of anti-Mormon bias, but he let pass an attack on evangelical belief in Intelligent Design. I am deeply suspicious of Huckabee's views on economics, national defense, and illegal immigration, but I'm not going to countenance gratuitous, snarky attacks on a fellow evangelical's convictions about God and creation.
