"Decisive Lead Amongst Conservatives!"

According to the newest Rasmussen numbers Mitt Romney now leads the GOP race for the nomination - NATIONALLY, and is up 15 points amongst "conservatives." McCain leads amongst moderates - but most of the primary races here on out are closed races which will diminish moderate/independent turnout for the GOP race.

Mitt's strategy, though it hit a sizable speed bumps in Iowa AND New Hampshire, is on the verge of complete fruition. The singularly important task ahead of him being - to win Florida.

If McCain loses Florida, though he will be around to make more noise, he will be all but finished. It Mitt wins, he must still compete heavily on Tsunami Tuesday, but he will be in position to raise additional money to complete his war chest.

Huckabee's loss in South Carolina appears to have been his ultimate undoing, which in all reality could be blamed easily enough on Thompson given the similarity in the exit poll responses from Thompson and Huckabee's supporters. Had Thompson not been in the race, Huckabee would have easily defeated McCain by a wide margin (perhaps 10%).

Now that McCain, who traditionally only wins "open" primaries, is faced with convincing the conservative base of the GOP primary voters that he isn't the wild, undisciplined, arrogant, half-crazed, tempest in a teapot he has been for the last eight years. But the track record is long.

And when you associate your name with more legislation (McCain/Feingold, McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Lieberman) with your opponent's co-signature's than from your own party's there's bound to be backlash. Even in this election cycle it appears that while McCain says ONE THING about border security, the staffing of his campaign advisers tells a VERY different story.

A good boxing of the ears in Florida and Senator Cranky can finally put the "running for president" demons to rest, and just focus on enjoying the remainder of his time in the Senate and with his wife and family...

Romney sinking
Kevin, with all due respect, you are nuts. I will agree there are two guys left fighting for the GOP nomination. McCain and Romney.

But McCain is going to pick up all the Giuliani states and the only place he is facing a fight is with Mike Huckabee in the South (where they are essentially tied). Mitt has no chance there at all. As for California, McCain and Mitt will split that, with McCain taking the most. But McCain will take all of New York, all of New Jersey and a host of delegate rich states too.

And McCain may verywell take Florida too. The sad truth is Mitt Romeny cannot win the general and most republicans have figured that out. It is Mitt Romney, not McCain, who is in trouble.

Must you call names?
You think one could show at least some respect for a man who spent years being tortured for trying to stand up for his country.

But I guess that's what it's all about isn't it? Soldiers risk all and endure the unimaginable so self-righteous people like Kevin McCollough can act juvenile and call them names.

"Senator Cranky","wild", "undisciplined", "arrogant", "half-crazed", "tempest in a teapot"

All very fun things to morons to say. Obviously you disagree with the man. But remember that he has been in service to this country and it's people for most of his many years. Even if you hate the man, I'd think he deserves a bit more respect. Even from you.

I know it's asking a lot for you to be even remotely respectable, but please give it a try.

Joe... your beef is with Rasmussen
And the data that he is polling... And pound for pound Rasmussen is THE best pollster in existence. He got 2000, 2004, and 2006 dead on.

HE'S the one saying - that McCain is down 15 to the party base.

Do You Want To Keep Your Country?

When I heard McCain's Hispanic Outreach guy was none other than Smiling Juan Hernandez, I knew John McCain has heard nothing we have had to say.

Smiling Juan Hernadez
We know who he is, we know his loyalties are to Mexico, we know he wants to erase our borders and immigration laws.

JOHN MCCAIN, YOU NEED A NEW HEARING AID

Smiling Juan Hernandez
In case you don't know him, he used to work for the Mexican govt., lately he has been shilling for "rights" for illegal aliens in this country. He has said he wants Mexicans to remain Mexicans even if they are living here. His loyalties are to Mexico, not U.S.

Questions for illegal alien apologists like John McCain:

Why does The National Council of the Race (la raza in spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce get to negotiate a "Comprehensive Shafting of The American Citizens" behind closed doors? Since when does an organization representing foreign nationals breaking our laws get to rewrite our immigration laws to suit the lawbreakers? Isn't this akin to allowing NAMBLA to rewrite our laws regarding child predators? Or allowing organized crime syndicates to rewrite racketeering, gambling, prostitution, and extortion laws?

We The People are being told by our representatives that we should sit down and shut up while they invite in the entire world. We The People should get some say in this matter. Another amnesty will set off a stampede like we have never seen before. There is not much time to save our country. All the money and power are on the side of shoving this amnesty down our throats. The RNC wants an amnesty candidate, don't vote for one.

McCain (D-lite) Can't Win

Worse than Dole. I wasn't excited about Dole, but I wasn't pi$$ed off at him, so I voted for him. What's the likelihood of anyone who has been called names for wanting the gov't to actually enforce the laws, to vote for those jamming amnesty down our throats?

McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Leiberman. Leadership like this I can do without.

Carbon taxes, constitutional rights for Gitmo detainees and amnesty for illegal aliens await us no matter who wins, whoopee!!!

Conservatives will not care who wins if McCain is the nominee, the reults would be the same.

Juan McCain: The Unvarnished Truth
John McCain:

-- Fought the Bush tax cuts
-- Called Don Rumsfeld the worst SecDef in U.S. history
-- Opposed the Defense of Marriage bill
-- Seriously considered running as Kerry's VP in 2004
-- Repeatedly bashed Condoleeza Rice
-- Allied with Ted Kennedy to give amnesty to illegals
-- Allied with Russ Feingold to inhibit political speech
-- Defended Kerry against the Swiftboat Veterans
-- Publicly blamed Bush and Rumsfeld for Abu Ghraib
-- Pushed anti-water boarding laws through Congress
-- Supported closing GITMO
-- Fueled rumors he would switch parties
-- Scoffed at AZ Republicans threatening a recall
-- Is a Global Warming believer
-- Said the U.S. should "mend fences" internationally
-- Repeatedly criticized the struggling Iraqi government
-- Blamed Bush for Katrina
-- Bashed Bush's domestic surveillance programs
-- Proposed a gun control bill
-- A card carrying member of the Keating 5
-- Voted against drilling in Alaska

With Republicans like McCain, who needs Democrats?

Yes, Virginia
The fix is in. The U.S. military empire requires boots on the ground; and as her native sons are not signing up in sufficient number and a draft is currently anathema, the remaining option is some sort of amnesty-for-service bargain.

Since I cannot in good conscience vote for a megalomaniac like McCain or an opportunist like Romney, who was for amnesty before he was against it (see also abortion, gun owners' rights, gay marriage, etc.), I may just have to sit this one out, provided Ron Paul is not available as a write in.

In the meantime I will seek, to the best of my ability, to elucidate for any and all who would listen the connection between legal tender laws and a peaceful, productive, sovereign America, which I define as a vibrant middle class. If you cannot reject the political class' currency, you are powerless to restrain its policies.

Rudy endorses McCain
At a campaign event Aug. 8, 2007, Giuliani told a crowd in Iowa, "I happen to be a very big admirer of Sen. McCain and I can tell you quite honestly that if I weren't running for president I would be here supporting him. If for some reason I made a decision not to run he'd be my candidate."

It was the second time this summer Giuliani voiced support for McCain without much prompting.

Romney may have to be good enough this time around. He would require watching to be sure he follows through. We may only have this election to stop the illegal inundation. McCain, Clinton, or Obama will try again on amnesty. One more and we're done. 1 in 8 residents of the U.S. is foreign born. That is higher than ever. This is not like previous immigration when immigrants became Americans. 1 in 8 households speak Spanish. The birthrates of illegal aliens are astounding. We are running out of time to save our country.
Joe writes: Monday, January, 28, 2008 12:50 PM
No beef with Rasmussen
Those numbers are conservative and moderate Republicans. McCain's overall numbers are far better than any other candidate and McCain and Romney split the GOP vote. Problem is Romney is pathetically poor with Indies and x-over Dems. McCain wins states handily like Virgina, Mitt puts Virgina in play (which would kill the GOP). McCain wins Pennsylvania, Maryland and other states that Mitt could never win. Mitt will lose a few southern states even, and that would give the election to Billary Obama.

The GOP loses in the general if Mitt is the nominee.

Obiwan, I had to go back to see the
name calling and "Senator Cranky" is name calling -- the rest is just a good desciption of the senator. And he would probably agree with the descriptions if it weren't for an election primary. If you look at his record, you could make an argument that he has intentionally worked to build such a reputation. His public tirades against those who dissagree with him have become famous.

cranky
wild
undisciplined
arrogant
half-crazed
tempest in a teapot

Those aren't names, they are descriptions of the man.

Republicans without
the moderate/independent voters, evangelical voters, strong prolife voters and minority voters can't win the presidency. This is Mitt's problem. All the democrats have to do is give these voting blocks a reason not to vote for Mitt so that he gets less than 10% from each group. Unfortunately, there are multiple reasons not to vote for Mitt but those can't be discussed on townhall, the official site for Romney. Suffice it to say, Mitt looses. However, the republican establishment keeps control of a loosing party, and all is fair in politics and business. It is my prediction that super tuesday will end Mitt's candidacy, and that will be a good thing for the republican party as the establishment looses control of a winning party.
tim_cuchullaine writes: Monday, January, 28, 2008 1:45 PM
Virginia,
Perhaps you're right. Perhaps Romney is our only option. Globalist that he is, though, I don't trust him. He'll end up cowtowing to La Raza (which I assume is a reference to the human race?) on the basis of some voodoo economics cannard. But he'll feel awful sorry screwing us, by golly. He's shown no inclination to interpreting the 14th Amendment in its historical context; nor has he had much to say about the welfare magnets that draw the Third World north.

At what point point is America reduced to such a shell of her former glory that she is no longer worth defending? I shudder to find out. And I say this as the grandson of a U.S. Marine who fought and killed in the Pacific; the son of a U.S. Marine who fought and killed in Viet Nam; the brother of a U.S. Marine who fought and killed during the evacuation of Mogadishu and the cousin of a U.S. Marine who fought and killed in Iraq. As we descend into aristocracy under a collapsing currency; as I am compelled by implicit government force to finance the destruction of my culture, the build up of China and the enslavement of my childrens' future to sticky-fingered social engineers, I feel like throwing in the towel.

If California were to become a northern extension of Mexico and Russia, sensing weakness, were set to invade, I would never admit publicly that I would welcome the change in management.

REAL Straight Talk:
MULTIPLE polls now show Mitt is the choice of CONSERVATIVE Republicans. Most of the upcoming primaries are restricted to registered Republicans -- the true, blue conservative variety.

IF McCain is the GOP nominee, conservatives will sit this election out (including yours truly). ESPECIALLY if Obama is the challenger. I can only see conservatives supporting McCain (while holding their noses) if Hillary is the Dem nominee. Still, most TRUE conservatives see little practical and ideological difference between Hillary and McCain.

At this stage, Mitt is the only hope for conservatives. If Mitt loses FL, McCain will most likely be the GOP nominee. That's the hard, ugly reality.
