"About 3.1 million people between the ages of 12-25 have used cough and cold medicine to get high, the government reported this week.

The number of young people who abused over-the-counter cold medicines is comparable to use of LSD and much greater than that for methamphetamine among the age group, according to the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration..."

"The cough suppressant DXM is found in more than 140 cough and cold medications available without a prescription. When taken in large amounts, DXM can cause disorientation, blurred vision, slurred speech and vomiting."

Of course as a kid and even today as an adult, I detest the taste of the stuff so much, I'll barely take when needed.

Closing question: "What is SO missing in our children's lives that they are so insistent upon 'disorientation, blurred vision, slurred speech, and vomiting' to make themselves 'feel' better?"

Hmmm...

Exactly
Kevin,

You hit the nail on the head. Something big time is missing in these kid's lives, and its probably a Mom or a Dad or both.

So True
I would see a doctor if I had those symptoms.

Surprise???
Kids learn from their society. They learn by watching what others are doing and have done.

Where do you think they've learned such stuff, hippy?

We live in a time where the last two generations have limited their responsibilities, blamed society for their wrong doings, felt entitled to whatever they didn't have, and yet can't understand what's going wrong with our next generation.

Over the last 50 years, we've spent so much time removing responsibility from people's lives its now catching up to us.

Monkey see, Monkey Do

Done it
I "roboed" once when I was in my early twenties... sucked down an entire bottle. I was in the Marine Corps at the time and wasn't allowed to smoke weed. It really didn't do much for me, just made me talk a lot.

I didn't cough for almost a year, though.

Re: Suprise??
James is correct. It is monkey see, monkey do.
How many TV shows and movies have I seen people robo-trip in? Uncountable.
Of course, the real question is this: what monkey are these kids mimicing? I'm sure everyone has overlooked the basic fact that those same symptoms apply to anyone who has drank too much alcohol. And how many kids get to see mommy, daddy, and their adult friends do that everyday?
We have kids looking for some type of release because that's what they see adults do. And as James said: "Over the last 50 years, we've spent so much time removing responsibility from people's lives its now catching up to us."

And people are still worried about video games? Gimme a break.
